I use these almost daily during the summer for hiking, fishing, and more on the Kenai Peninsula. They are marketed towards the tactical side of the aisle but are great for pretty much all purposes. I love them, they are waterproof, durable, and keep me from rolling my ankles.

If you want to see the northern lights you would have to come to Alaska during the winter as we get too much sunlight during the cruise season

My ex used to work for http://www.coastalhelicopters.com/ and we got a free tour one time. We got to fly over the glacier and see the icefields. Well worth the trip to Juneau. Not sure how much they charge now though, this was 2 years ago.

If you're going down to Kenai I would recommend you try these Kenai river Guides and ask for Kasey or Eric. If you are just doing a day trip Another Kenai River Guide I know does just day trips. Salmon fishing is a blast this month. You could also check out these guys for Kenai Rental Cabins, just Ask for Pam or Nick. Great people and nice little cabins. I've lived here all my life and it is seriously unbelievable how much there is to do. Try to make more than just a day of it. I saw someone mention Alaska Horsemen in Cooper Landing. I can second them. Awesome outfit, Alex and his Daughter are good people.

This isn't really relevant if you take the time to look at their website, Facebook, and trip advisor reviews. Most of the tour operators have been doing it a long time and would certainly not risk their business by "circumventing the rules" just do your research and no worries about going direct.
