We took the Star Legend from Barcelona to Amsterdam this past May. In most of the ports we either docked near the city center or had free shuttle buses. St. Malo is a tender port. The tour to Mount St. Michel is worth the money if you have never been there. It’s far more convenient and efficient than other options. We also enjoyed the tour to Santiago de Compostelo. Lorient was heavily bombed during WWII so there is little of historical interest to see in the city. Windstar does offer a tour to Vannes, which is a beautiful historic city. The cruise to and from Rouen along the Seine is scenic, but much of the length is done when it’s dark.

The city provided a shuttle bus from the port to Bilbao when our Windstar cruise stopped there in May. It’s an industrial port, so the shuttle bus was a necessity. We were left off in the city center and caught the bus back at the same location. No problem.

We did this cruise last year. The barbecue was the only special event. Since the weather was chilly and a bit rainy, it would have been challenging to have another outdoors event.

We had just returned from a cruise around New Zealand and to Australia when you wrote, so this is the first time I have logged on to Cruise Critic in awhile. If you haven't found out the information by now, the Windstar 6 hour Mont St. Michel excursion costs $235 per person. By road, it takes 45-60 minutes to drive there, so the actual time at Mont St. Michel will likely be about 3.5 hours. We decided to take the ship's excursion because we can be assured that we will get back to the ship on time.
