Let me start by saying we were in a suite and usually stay in the Haven so i wasn't sure what to expect with no haven on the Dawn
I will start with embarkation in tampa
What a disaster. This has by far been the worst port we have ever left from!
Starting with drop off. I have left from NY Miami and Port canaveral. We have always gotten dropped off by the luggage handlers given them our luggage and goten on a quick line to board. well not in Tampa! Our Uber driver was yelled at and directed across the street from the terminal where there were scattered luggage handlers who were loading luggage on carts and bringing it who knows where. We arrived about 10:15 and there was already a line around the building. got up to the check in and went to suite check in and check in was a disaster. there was one person who was training another person long story short we all got checked in and were told to sit and the concierge would come get us and take us to the suite area where there was food and drinks. Well that didn't happen we sat for over an hour waiting then they finally moved us to a different area, the area that we should have been waiting at the whole time! we always sail in the Haven and there is always an area with coffee and cookies etc... well they had this area but we were taken there after waiting and waiting and when they finally brought us there it was time to board. so we literally grabbed a cookie then left for the ship.
We boarded and went right to our room which was ready so that was good. We were in an owners suite with 2 balconies the room was by far the largest we have been in but did show its age. So the room... We had 2 balconies thankfully! We originally booked the forward suite and i am so glad we upgraded. The forward balcony was nice during the day to lay out especially since there is no Haven sun deck but i definitely wouldn't have wanted just that there was no privacy at all and at night they took the cushions in and locked the door so we never used that balcony at night. We spent most of our time on the side balcony which was very private and great for sitting out at night and in the morning. Now the placement of this suite...
you would think a suite would be in the perfect area. Well not so much. I'm not talking about the location to restaurants even though being no haven restaurant it was on the opposite side of the ship from moderno and cagney's where we could go for breakfast and lunch. i am talking about the fact that every time we were docking which was around 6 am in every port we were woken up to the entire room shaking and extremely loud noise from i'm not sure what i want to say the thrusters maybe? whatever it was it literally shook our room for an hour at least not the way you want to be woken up on vacation. other then that the room was amazing comfortable bed and plenty of space. we had 2 regular outlets and the rest were all european, we did unplug the butler phone and used the usb port from there as well
Our butler was Ronald he was fine. We don't use the butler that much he brought us snacks every day and kept our fridge full of water soda and juice other then that and the occasional room service we didn't see him much
Now for the concierge. Our concierge was Omar fresh off the Epic. Now i knew going in that there was no concierge desk like i am used to. I was told on here that the concierge hung out by moderno and cagney's during breakfast and lunch. they were there for the most part but definitely not the same as having a desk where there is always someone there
Omar was amazing. we made no dinner reservations before boarding I never do, well that was a mistake for this cruise every restaurant was booked for the entire week.Thank goodness we had Omar because he was able to get us in as well as my son and his girlfriend who were in a regular balcony room. Not sure what people who didn't have an Omar did if they didn't book ahead. It was definitely frustrating at times trying to get a hold of him but he did always get back to me eventually
The ship itself was not what we were used to. i don't think i would go on the Dawn again. there just isn't enough to do. we are not big drinkers. There just aren't enough shows. We missed the comedy club and the dueling pianos and just all the activities that the bigger ships have. I will say the casino was good to us, better than any other cruise we have been on but as far as other entertainment not even close. I was having ship envy at every port where there were other ships docked we were always the smallest one lol. I know there are alot of Dawn lovers out there but for us the bigger ships are better especially for my adult kids 18 and 23 both with their girlfriends. If you aren't getting drunk at night or in the casino there isn't much else to do. besides the one show
I also didn't get that friendly feel that so many people post about feeling on the smaller ships as a matter of fact i felt some employees were bordering on rude
All in all i am glad we tried the Dawn we had an amazing vacation but i won't' be booking again. I will stick to the getaway class and above
if anyone has any questions i would be happy to answer
