Very strange. When I look at the "prices and availability" section on both iPad and Mac no percentages are showing! Couldn't quite see what Saga would gain by doing this.

We also had that email yesterday. I've only just noticed that Saga have stopped putting the percentage discount available on their cabin prices on the website!!
  3. We are going on April 17th and received an email saying excursions were available to book on Feb 6th. However we were sent an email by Cruise Guest Support for the same cruise detailing tendering instead of docking at Kefalonia which went into my junk mail. I don't check mine very often so it was just by chance I saw it!
  4. They already allow carers over the age of 18 on Saga ships. We were on the Adventure Christmas cruise and there was a lady in here 80s accompanied by her great-grandson as her carer.
  5. Saga will put a bottle of English sparkling wine in your cabin together with a small box of delicious chocolates! There will also be a card for you to give to the manager of whichever restaurant you are dining in if you want a small cake with a candle and a rendering of Happy Birthday! If it's a wedding anniversary the wine is replaced with champagne. Hope you enjoy the occasion.
  6. Yes that's correct. the "free" insurance will not cover my husband but Saga's paid for insurance does!
  7. I have just thought of something else missing on Discovery in April - the cheese trolley in the Dining room. Cheese now comes plated from a selection on the dessert menu. I can't remember if there was a trolley in February so this could have happened a while ago.
  8. Yes there are still cakes and sandwiches available in the living room at 4p.m. but the trolley that came round at about 4:15 has stopped .This was on our last cruise which ended on Feb 16th and also on previous cruises. Many people were complaining about this as the warm scones were very popular. A fellow passenger has contacted Head Office regarding this and the buffet changes in the Dining Room.
  9. We disembarked the Spirit of Discovery on Monday after 22 nights - our 5th cruise on this ship. We were also on this ship for 16 nights in February and noticed some changes have been made in that short time. There were no newspapers/puzzles available in the Living Room or Reception - passengers having to collect them from the Library. I complained to the Guest Services Manager explaining how this was not good for people with mobility issues who come out of the dining room and sit in the living Room to read the papers! She said it was a Head Office decision to free up the work in Reception. She obviously thought about this and in the afternoon I had a phone call saying they would now be made available in Reception which happened for the rest of the cruise. On day 3 the breakfast buffet and lunch salad buffet were stopped in the Dining Room. This caused many complaints and led to poor service as the waiters had much more work to do getting orders which would normally be done by passengers. When questioned the Head Waiter said it was a Health and Safety issue as the Dining Room was a Muster Station. There must have been a lot of discussion re this as on Day 19 it was reinstated at breakfast but not lunch. There was no Afternoon Tea trolley at 4:15 in the Living Room. We always enjoyed the scones on previous cruises. Again Head Office was blamed. There were no wafers with the ice cream in the Restaurants. People complained and they eventually reappeared. How silly!! There were problems with supplies in Le Club. The T Bones were replaced by pork chops after a few days and then the ribeye was replaced by fillet steak! We thoroughly enjoyed the cruise - wonderful staff, excellent food and generous drinks! We have 4 more booked so we just hope SAGA are not going the way of some other cruise lines by slowly withdrawing things hoping the passengers don't notice.
  10. 2024 brochure on general sale today. We have just booked the Greek Islands in April with 30% discount and Canaries Christmas with 35%off.
  11. This may be of interest to those of you wishing to upgrade transport to the ship. I contacted Saga today to upgrade our shared transport to private transport for our forthcoming cruise in April. The cost to upgrade has increased from £1.75 per mile to £2.50 per mile. This applies to single journeys over 75 miles and up to 250 miles. The cost came into force last week.
  12. My husband has mobility problems and needs assistance to embark/disembark. We have sailed on the Discovery from Tilbury, Dover and Southampton and have had wonderful service. Our 4th Discovery cruise was from Portsmouth on Feb 2nd and I feel I must let others know the limitations of Assistance there. Embarcation Once inside the port your car joins a queue and the luggage is taken off including your scooter/wheelchair if you haven't booked a disabled cabin. You are then driven to the terminal where you need to walk to check-in at the assistance area - here there are chairs. Once this is done you then join a queue with the rest of the passengers to go through security - we had to queue for about 10 minutes. You then walk a short distance to a bus which has a ramp for rollators and a disabled seat. You are driven to the gangway area where you sit and wait for a wheelchair to take you to the ships entrance. While the organisation worked well there was much more standing and walking than at the other Ports. Disembarcation You are allocated a disembarcation number and wait in the living room. There were only 3 wheelchair assistants available. We were number 8 and had to wait more than an hour to get off. I think the highest was 23. Passengers without assistance were numbers 18 and 19 when we disembarked. The gangway was very steep and it took 3 people to get my husband's wheelchair safely to the bottom. The wheelchair is then dispensed with and you catch the bus to the luggage tent. This was chaos when we arrive as our No 8 had long been replaced with other numbers .The tent is not big enough to take all luggage so luggage is constantly being offloaded as room becomes available. If you have a wheelchair/scooter you pick it up when you exit this tent. Luckily I found our luggage had been put on a trolley so I found a porter and joined the queue for the taxis. This took about 5 minutes. Our driver then took our luggage to the carpark which was a considerable walk away but obviously the distance varies depending on where the driver manages to park - it is a big car park. Many people were struggling by this time. I feel passengers should be told that Assistance in Portsmouth is nowhere near as comprehensive as in other ports although I am aware that they are building a new cruise terminal. Lisbon We were in Llsbon just over a year ago and to access the shuttle buses or coaches you just walked a short distance from the ship to the carpark. There is now an airbridge from deck 6 and the walking is considerable. It goes back on itself and then straight to the terminal building where you take an escalator or lift to ground floor. You then have to 'snake' through the terminal building before getting to the buses. We are very lucky as my husband has a scooter but quite a few passengers using walkers and walking sticks couldn't make it and had to cancel their trips. The ship berthed in front of us did not have an airbridge connected so it might be worth checking with Saga what the situation is. We had wonderful cruise - our first without facemasks - and it was lovely to see the smiling faces of all the crew.
  13. We were on the Discovery last Christmas and all you said took place. I had my photo taken with Father Christmas and sent it to our then 2 year old grandson - he was very impressed! We also had a box of mince pies, a Christmas pudding, box of chocolates and a bottle of English sparkling wine on both Christmas eve and New Years eve! An excellent cruise and we have booked Christmas 2023 on the Adventure.
  14. Thanks very much. I also remember someone putting the address on this forum but haven't been able to find it!!
