  1. The only cruise I thought was a bit too long was a transpacific- 23 days. 10-11 days sounds perfect. I agree with another poster to consider just walking around a few of the ports rather than booking excursions. You might want to start out later in the morning or get back early to enjoy the ship. Some of your ports have really interesting things close by in port.

    I consider a 7 day to be a "short cruise." :D:D

Wow 23 days is a really long time! I think I would have gotten cabin fever lol. I do think some of the Greek Isles will be easy to do on our own so we can have an easier going exploration instead of a full day tour. I do love sleeping in :)

  2. DH and I had done mostly 7 day Caribean cruises until last year. I talked him into an 11 day British Isle cruise (it was a hard sell). We both really enjoyed it and now we have booked the 11 days one way to Hawaii trip. I think you will have a wonderful trip. enjoy the moment.

We actually have a week long Disney British Isles cruise booked at the same time lol. Trying to decide which one to actually do. I need to be more like my Fiance who always says no matter where we go he'll have a great time because I'll be there.

  3. My wife and I are on the same cruise only leaving October 24th. Our philosophy has been for what we pay for airfare and the time difference we opt for the longer cruises in fact we would be hard pressed to justify flying to Europe for 7 day cruise. I agree with other folks the time will fly there is so much to admire on this cruise great itinerary. We have done a few 14 day cruises and that is probably the longest we would do at this time.

I agree 7 days to fly to Europe is too short. We are going for 2 weeks no matter what, just wasn't sure if we should do a week long cruise and a week on land instead of the 11 night. I did longer sailings as a kid with my parents, but since I turned 18 the longest I've done was 7 nights.

  4. Balcony is our sweet spot, spend a bit of time in our cabin, even a porthole is too closed in, really struggle to justify anything higher up than a balcony.

I'd love to book a Haven room, but it is 4 times the cost of the balcony and way out of our price range. Plus for such a port intensive cruise it seems like a waste since we'll barely be on the ship

  5. Instead of excursions in every port, why not plan in a few “get off and wander” days - that way you can see what you want (and see random things you didn’t expect to see), if you’re tired you can have a lie in, if your feet hurt you can go back to whenever you want, and if you don’t feel like getting off at all, you don’t have to!

I think a lot of people stress over excursions in every port because they think they *have* to see something there regardless of actually being interested in it or not!

(I am really not an organised excursion fan if you can’t tell!)

There are definitely some ports I feel like we need an excursion (like Florence where they are far from the port), but some of the Greek Isles are probably easy to get around so we could do that and fit in some rest. I don't want to wear us out doing 10 hour excursions every day. I did that once when my friend and I did a Med cruise and by the end of it I ended up getting sick.

  6. My wife and I did an 11 night cruise on the Jade to the Canary Islands from Barcelona for our Honeymoon. For us, 7 nights is the sweetspot. 11 was a bit long and we were definitely ready to get off the ship at the end.

That's the ship we're booked on. That's what I'm worried about that we'll find it too long and wish we were back on land by the end of it.

  7. He sounds like my DH. [emoji16]

Does he like cruising in general? If he does you have nothing to worry about.

My DH actually doesn’t like cruising that much and I have found out to him and people like him destination is the key. Prior to last year our longest cruise was also week long. Last year we did a 21-day Antarctica cruise on a tiny 100 people ship and he absolutely loved it because the destination had so much to delight and to excite.

Europe also has much to offer I think as long as your fiancé at least somewhat likes cruising he will be fine either way you plan.

He does like cruising, I just worry about him when we are in the cabin. He's really tall and always seems to hit his head on things since the rooms are so small. I'm super short so it's never been something I thought about. He's very excited to go to Europe though, that was his one stipulation for the honeymoon that he wanted to go there.

  8. I’d be worried about the length of a 10 day cruise as well. I need at least a few days longer than that. :)

It really depends on individual preference. Our last cruise and our next one are both 7 days, and that really is too short for us, but as the comments above show, others think that any longer is too long. How have you felt at the end of previous cruises? If you were keen to get home after 7 days then yes, 10 will probably be a struggle. If not then you may well be ok.

One thing to be careful of on longer cruises is overdoing things. We try to make sure that we have a good mix of busy and less busy days. If you are rushing around at every port then it is quite likely that you will tire of it. We try to make sure we pick a few ports to just have a wander around and a drink or meal.

The cruise will definitely be action packed since there is only one sea day so we will be doing a lot of excursions. I think our resting time would be when we get back on the ship at the end of the day. One of our 7 nights I could have stayed on much longer, but then we also did a 4 night where I was really sick and I couldn't wait to get off the ship lol.

  9. I currently have a 11 night Italy and Greek Isles cruise booked for my honeymoon next September. I'm worried about the length of the cruise. My Fiance has never been on a cruise longer than a week before. Do you think it would be better to switch to a week long cruise paired with a week somewhere in Europe or keep the 11 night?

  10. Yes you can decorate your door. I always decorate ours, I think it helps us find our door easier after enjoying the UBP. Haha. Here’s a pic of our door when we were on the Pearl:

I bought the sign and banner on Etsy and used small neodymium magnets to attach to the cabin door. Have a great honeymoon cruise!

This is so cute and exactly how I was envisioning having a sign say honeymoon. Thanks!

  11. We literally got off the Getaway Baltic cruise 2 days ago. (Wed., 9/7) If you are into touring, that is the cruise to go on. Lots to see, and long days touring. If you are into beaches and relaxing, this probably is not the cruise for you. Our weather was chilly each day in port - not alot of rain, but definitely jacket weather in the mornings. I packed shorts and did not wear them once. Getaway had plenty to do on the ship at night and during our 2 sea days. We were lucky that our sea days were sunny, and a lot of people sat out on the decks getting burned! We cruise for itinerary - not so much for the ships themselves. Visiting new places is important for us. We spent 2 1/2 days pre-cruise in Copenhagen, and wished we had more time there!

I definitely want to see Europe and do the long all day tours no matter which cruise we do. The weather doesn’t sound too bad, just need to bring a jacket. We would have 5 days to spend somewhere but that seems too long to be in Copenhagen?

  12. Hi we've done the same cruises/ships in the last 3 years. Jade June 2015 and Getaway July 2017.. ,my kids who were mid twenties to early 30's liked the Jade itinerary and the Getaway ship . My husband and I both in our 60's liked the Jade. It's the perfect size ship for us...we enjoyed both itineraries..The Getaway is bigger , had more bells and whistles .We had cooler weather and some rain on the The Baltic cruise ..it is not a pool/sunbathing cruise .We never used our balcony to sit out on,In September could be downright chilly

I’m around the age of your kids and do like the big ships that have a lot to do. The Baltic has two sea days to enjoy the ship. The Jade itinerary we only have one sea day so I suppose if we aren’t too thrilled with the ship it won’t matter much since we’ll barely be on it. I love cold weather but my fiancé isn’t a big fan lol

  13. For me being on a bigger ship with more to do wouldn’t matter so much in Europe. The days are really long and there isn’t a ton of sea days on most itineraries, so there is a lot of stuff you probably won’t use because you won’t have time. That being said I would probably go with the baltic just based on the ports if it wasn’t prohibitively more expensive (i.e. compare prices of hotels and food and compare what kinda money you would be spending on excursions Russia kinda needs a tour guide due to visa but the Jade I would probably do most ports on my own)

The cruise is slightly cheaper but that’s probably because it’s less nights. We’ll have to see if it’ll add a lot of cost staying somewhere before the cruise for that many days. There are two sea days for the Baltic so we would be able to enjoy the ship for a bit

  14. I'm considering switching my honeymoon cruise again, probably driving my fiancé crazy glad he loves me lol.

We currently have Jade booked next September, 11 night Mediterranean cruise Italy and Greek Isles. I like the itinerary, the ship is a little older and smaller than I’d like but has good reviews. But I’ve been to half the places before.

Same time there’s a 9 night on the Getaway out of Copenhagen that does the Baltic. Neither my fiancé or I have been to any of the places before and I’ve always wanted to go to Russia. I also like the mega ships that’s have a bit more to do on them.

If we did switch we’d have 5 days to spend somewhere, probably not Copenhagen, but not sure where since it seems far from everywhere.

Should I just stick with the cruise I have booked or make the switch? It’ll be both of ours first Norwegian Cruise

  15. I believe that the time period for being able to make dining reservations is related to the time that final payment is due in the US, so you should have made payment by then in order to guarantee your reservation anyway.

For those of us from other countries, our final payment date is later and we certainly don’t need to be fully paid up before making reservations. I usually have mine all done at least a month before payment is due.

Excursions can be booked much earlier than final payment is due. No problem there.

Great thanks! The cruise isn’t for a year so I’d rather pay it slowly and not right away
