  1. I’m considering going alone his summer, so I’d be curious about whether you get the sense that there are any accommodations for introverts (dining for one, quiet places to sit, etc.) Especially in Bimini. I would be a solo cruiser but not a swinging single — just looking for peac and relaxation.
  2. We've been cruising since DD was 8 and always have the later seating. It makes for more relaxed afternoons, as you say, plus the lines for the water slide will dwindle when the early diners leave the pool to get dressed. And there are fewer very young kids, which makes for a more pleasant dining experience (plus fewer of them in the early shows). I recommend it!
  3. We took this trolley during a trip to Key West (not via cruise) and the tickets were for two days. Maybe that accounts for the lower price, assuming the cruise ship is only in town for one day?
  4. Thanks all. What happened for us was, I booked two port excursions, and upon checking out the system asked if I wanted to apply the OBC. I said yes, and it reduced the cost of one excursion accordingly. After I paid the remainder by debit card I wondered what would happen if that particular excursion were canceled (as has happened twice on DCL when it was too windy for parasailing). I know we can use up the money with gratuities and cappucino, etc., but it did make me wonder “what if.” Thanks to all for chiming in! Happy cruising!
  5. Forgive a foolish sounding question, but I’m planning our first Royal Caribbean cruise. I’m used to Disney, where you book your excursions, specialty dining, etc., but you don’t actually pay for anything until the end of the cruise. With Royal, since we pay as we order things, is there any advantage to using on board credit for something in particular? For example, if it is applied to a port excursion that might be canceled, would that matter? I want to make sure we use it up on this cruise and don’t end up spending more than we had to with on board credit left over. Thanks.
  6. How about fanny packs, maybe someone on etsy could do a custom family logo on them for you.
  7. I thought the DCL discount for Canadians was to make up for the fact that they have to pay so much more for books than we do.
  8. P.S. I adore my child, and there are other kids whose company I enjoy, but I totally understand the desire to experience a child-free environment, on vacation or not. I'm not sure why some of my fellow breeders are taking the question so personally.
  9. If you don't have your heart set on the vast ocean spaces, a river cruise can be fantastic. We took one on the Danube a few years ago. Minimum permitted age was eight, but the cruise line strongly discouraged even older children (warning in materials that there are no special menus or schedules or facilities for children). It was a great, grown-up time. I recommend it!
  10. Thank you for replying to my ancient question! We'll be on the Magic again in March. I'm going to recommend DD definitely go to the mixer the first night and maybe meet some other kids. For the December cruise I mentioned in my post, we've opted for a Royal Caribbean one -- giant ship with lots of built-in entertainment. Hoping an on-board ice rink etc. will make up for the lack of Mickey and Minnie!
  11. Has anyone used the service to mail a parcel to yourself so you won't have to carry it onto the ship? It sounds too good to be true, but I'm tempted, as our cruise is the last stop on a vacation that already has several locations and lots of different clothes and gear required. I definitely won't be needing that pirate costume, so why schlep it along with me all week? Any tips, experiences, warnings? Thanks.
  12. Can we use a regular, land lubbers' Starbucks gift card in the Starbucks location on the Oasis of the Seas? My daughter is addicted to frappuccinos, and I thought I'd give her a gift card as a bon voyage gift at the start of our cruise but want to be sure it will actually work. Thanks!
  13. I’m booked on our first Royal Caribean cruise for December. Everyone says to book the extras, like beverage packages, and then cancel and rebook if the price drops. Other than looking on the RCI website every day, is there an easy way to find out about price drops? Anyone know if there’s a mailing list for these things that would send an email if there’s a sale? Not sure I have it in me to keep checking every day 7ntil December. Thanks!
  14. No. We are soon to go on our fourth DCL cruise with child and have one Royal Caribbean booked with child next winter. We did one European river cruise without children (ours or anyone else’s). I would do another child-free river cruise as first choice and probably one of the higher end /older skewing lines like Holland America rather than Disney. I love Disney cruises, but I’m not a Disney fanatic and am not crazy about the family vibe when I can avoid it.
  15. We had a white wall verandah last cruise and yes, it’s true that you can’t see the water while seated.
