My wife loves the International Cafe and hangs out in the Piazza, so we visit the IC often.  I have never seen these cakes there.  Maybe they are on display only during limited hours?  [Kind of like the donuts.  I never visit the IC in the daytime morning hours (as opposed to the late night "morning hours") so I learned of donuts only through this Forum!]

    They were in these cases

Coffee at the IC doesn't count as one of the 15

We had the PLUS package on last three cruises and drink a lot of coffee/teas/chocolate.

Most food at the cafe is complimentary but you pay for a slice of those huge cakes. Unless you have the package, then it counts towards your two specialty desserts a day. My DH had a slice, couldn't finish it.

I found out about the cake the last two days of our trip

The International Cafe serves food that is complimentary and the coffee shop attached would also be complimentary if you have the plus package.  Any coffee you get there takes one of your 15 drinks for the day from my experience.

No only alcohol drinks take one of the 15,

Which brings up a good question....can you do crew chat without paying the App Activation fee?

There is not an APP activation fee there is an oceans now fee, to activate the food and delivery part.

but when we messaged crew chat the didn’t really care, it was like oh you are not getting charged why worry

That was really common in the beginning.

They are supposed to check the picture and cabin no. that comes up on their handheld device, or their computer, when you approach the bar.

Some people complain if they ask their name or cabin no. They

should be verifying who is ordering these drinks.

I don’t get it.  Who wants to waste their time going up to GS?  I would call from the cabin or do the crew chat.

We just got off Friday there were always extra drinks that were not ours ( we never went close to 15 but….. like i max out at 3 one day i had nine showing by 6 pm) i would have been long in bed if i drank all that, and like i said we had a crown grill charge

Yes, I realize that I wouldn't be able to call outside phones without an INTERNET connection but just to call each other on the ship in the same network it may be possible.

    Still hoping.

In the app, there is shipmate messaging that works in the ship net, but it will not give notifications there is a message, we had our kids set a timer to check it regularly

  8. So for us this was my shipboard math 😜😉, when I compared the base price of just the cruise, to the cruise with plus it worked out plus is $52 US  or $72 canadian a day for my cruise…..I subtract my gratuities ($16 US or $21.50 canadian) and we would buy internet because we have older teens staying home alone for the first time ($15 us or $21 canadian), the rest of the package doesn’t interest me so that means i am paying $22 us or $30 Canadian for the drink package after I subtract what I feel are fixed fees for me. I do not drink but if i was to buy the zero alcohol package it is $29 a day US or $39 Canadian. If I was to buy a bottle or 2 of water a mocktail, maybe a specialty coffee, a sparkling water with dinner i would probably hit that $22 US a day easily. Now if i did drink, looking at the menu 2 glasses of wine or a cocktail or two i would break even before i even ordered any non alcoholic drinks. My US to Canadian conversations were more estimations.  The advantage for me to add the plus in canada and pay in canadian, if i ordered as I go on the ship and being charged in US my credit card adds a service fee for U.S. transactions so that would have added about an extra 3% plus they charge one or 2 percent exchange rate then the posted, so it could be an extra 5% on top of the ballpark 30% exchange.

  9. What cruise line has the best food lately, I am thinking the more family ones like NCL, Royal Caribbean, princess, HAL etc… we were on princess last fall and the food was pretty bad. Like 2 star all inclusive bad lol. We almost pulled the trigger and booked a Royal Caribbean cruise but reading the reviews scared us off, normally we take them with a grain of salt, but there were so many. I understand they were amazing pre covid… We feel, it really doesn’t matter how hard the employees work and how great the service is, if head office gives them subpar stuff to work with.

  10. My teens have been on holland America a few times, if there are other teens on board and they are out going enough to strike up a friendship, they will have lots of fun, if there are not a lot of other teens they will be board, the teen program sucks. We were just on carnival in april, my teen asked to go back to HA because the food was horrible on carnival, compared to other lines we have been on, we are just in the middle of trying to decide between Ha or trying a MSC cruise in nov.

Forgive my ignorance in all this, but we got the free government covid tests.  Can we use those to test?  Or even like take them in the terminal with us and test there while someone watches?  I'm hoping this testing thing drops by our June cruise.  It's truly my only worry about this trip.

I am not sure if i am allowed to post their link but there is a company called  Azova that will proctor your test from your government online. For a fee then send you your paperwork with in an hour.

  12. I was wondering if it speeds up the process getting on or off, but if there are no nexus terminals it wont matter.
