  1. Thank you both! I too have a dairy allergy, and it has become more severe than when I previously cruised. I’m really looking forward to using this!
  2. Has anyone used this new technology for allergy or food restrictions? I’ve developed a more severe dairy allergy & I will speak to who I need to Day 1, but just curious if anyone has used this successfully? It’s fairly new, right?
  3. We went out of Long Beach in October. The first full sea day was rough seas, I’m not sure if that’s common or not. Everything else the rest of the trip was perfect. The weather got a bit cooler on the way back up from Ensenada, if I remember correctly, that was the coldest part.
  4. We are using an LAX Park & Fly. Was about $350 for 10 days including night before flight in a hotel.
  5. The zoo & Balboa Park are for sure must sees, Old Town (I’m a fan of Old Town Mexican Cafe) would be easy with an Uber. La Jolla cove is also worth the journey. It’s a bit north, but shouldn’t be too expensive. Seaport Village, Petco stadium & Gas Lamp Quarter are all in within walking distance, same with the USS Midway museum & several harbor boat tours.
  6. January San Diego, you will be fine to dress in layers. Probably pants/jeans, light weight shirt and a sweatshirt would be perfectly fine. Could be a gorgeous 70 day, but on the ocean will be cooler. This recent winter was the coldest we’ve had in years. San Diego has near perfect weather year round, but we’re weather wimps here. 60 is really cold & anything over 85 is really hot to us. 😆
  7. Our journey cruise to Hawaii (14) was one of my favorite vacations ever! Everyone was so laid back, so much to do, so much to not do! I loved going to the lectures about Hawaii, stargazing, reading in a clamshell. We did dance classes, glee clubs… so many fun things. The best part was it felt like 3 separate vacations. 1 getting there, 2 being there & 3, just when you’re sad you’re leaving, you realize you still have 5 more days to decompress & relax. It was great!
  8. First time to Alaska next month. How is the curtain situation on a balcony on the Spirit? I know the sun sets late in Skagway & rises really early! Do I need eye masks for my family, or are the curtains sufficient?
  9. I remember a handful of people dressing up throughout the cruise, but there are people who go very elaborate on the actual day of Halloween. Lots of activities including a small trick or treating area for kids at some point during the day.
  10. I don’t remember them repeating. On our 14 day we also opted for splurges on steak house & chef’s table to mix it up. It was Journey Cruise to Hawaii, I think on the way there they did the Mexico “port” themes & on the way back it was Caribbean themed. Or reversed, I can’t remember.
  11. I'd love to know more about the cheap whale watching! First time in Alaska (August) and budgeting as well!
  12. Thank you! You’re right. I forgot that would be considered Canada. I’m an Alaska route nube! 😁
  13. This is our last port on an 8 day. From what I understand it's in the evening. Is there anything worth getting off and checking out? What's your best Victoria advice?
  14. We're cruising with family on the Spirit in August (Alaska) and my nephew is 12 at the time of cruising. Is that still considered child for specialty dining, or adult prices? Sometimes it give specifics on the excursions, but mostly curious for dining, etc. Thank you.
  15. 2nd night sounds right. I'm almost certain they all happened on the sea days because you get a lot of them. 🙂
  16. I'm trying to remember from 2019, but I feel like there were 3 altogether and a throw back night. I can't remember if throwback was also formal or not. I know for sure one was on the way there and one on the way back.
  17. You’re my favorite cruise reviewer on here! 😄 Looking forward to this! We will be on the Spirit in August!
  18. Was on a 14 day to Hawaii & back, Oct 2019, Halloween fell on the 3rd to last day, the entire 28th-31st days on the way back were all Halloween. Big, huge costume contest, pumpkins, trick-or-treat, etc, lots of it. The entire 2 weeks was decorated, but the first half of the cruise was all Hawaiian, 2nd half was all Halloween. It was fun. Lots of cabin decorations for sure.
  19. We did Los Angeles to Hawaii in October 2019. The first full sea day was pretty bad. I do not get sea sick, but my husband does. He got sick, I didn’t, but was nauseous a lot. I remember thinking, “Oh no! We made a mistake!” Laying down on our bed, I could feel us going up & down & around. The captain acknowledged it was bad & was doing his best to get through it. After that, it was smooth sailing the rest of the 14 days. It was the best vacation I’ve ever had! It felt like 3 separate vacations! 5 days there, 4 days on the islands, and just when I was sad we were leaving, I realized we still had 5 more days of total relaxation! I would do it again in a heartbeat!
