  1. Although we prefer the food on Carnival, over the last few years we have been sailing RCL due to the new Oasis Class ships which we love, and the entertainment which is outstanding. Excellent evening entertainment is one of the most important aspects of the cruise experience to us. We also enjoy the many perks RCL provides for past passengers including balcony cabin discounts, 3 free drinks per night per person, reduced internet rates and most recently the new advanced boarding and disembarkation using facial recognition. On our recent cruise on Symphony of the Seas, we were literally in the garage to park, offloaded luggage (in the garage), checked in , through Security and on the ship in 22 minutes. Doing self debarkation with facial recognition we were off the ship and in our car leaving in 9 minutes. RCL wins hands down for organization and crowd control in our opinion.
  2. Same for us. Started WJ dinners several years back and have never regretted it.
  3. As Platinum on Carnival and Diamond Plus on Royal, I agree with Carnival having better food. They also have a far superior selection of free choices such as Guy's Burgers and Blue Iguana. The Carnival Steakhouses cost less than their competitors, and offer better food. Food is such a personal preference. Royal has come a long way since we first started sailing. Their food used to be commonly referred to as "bland and boring".
  4. Can't wait to follow your adventure!!! We too are vegan/vegetarians and enjoyed this restaurant in St. Thomas: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g147404-d1046663-Reviews-Gladys_Cafe-St_Thomas_U_S_Virgin_Islands.html Having an AMAZING cruise!!! Just sailed the Symphony in September and had a great time!!
  5. Unfortunately, many do demand it. Paints a negative picture of all upper level C&A members. We are just happy for the enhanced benefits that come with our Diamond Plus status. Never even wear our pins. They are still in the original wrapper in a drawer.
  6. Yes. But the strength we use is only available in Mexico. The strength dispensed in the US, even by Doctors is not strong enough for our use.
  7. On our Sept. 28th sailing of the Symphony, we did not have an afternoon show scheduled. Would have loved to have seen it!
  8. Please just keep it natural and beautiful, unlike the expensive and glamorized "Perfect Day at CoCo Cay" theme park.
  9. No. LOL!!!! My 5S takes GREAT photos and works well. I just always feel pressured to upgrade. Need a more recent phone to use for navigation on our boat.
  10. We have sailed Carnival on all classes since our first cruise on the Festivale in 1981. All of our cruises have been great experiences filled with great food, fun and excellent Main Stage entertainment. That was true until the advent of Playlist Productions. A small cast lip-syncing lyrics on a set- less stage is a great departure from the beautifully costumes and staged productions of the past. This was our time to depart Carnival and return to RCCL. While many are not phased by the decline in entertainment offerings on the Main Stages of Carnival, it is very important to us. Not drinkers, we love the production shows in the evening. While the decline is a product of increased cost cutting, it has given us the opportunity to once again sail RCCL, whose shows are almost second to none in terms of shipboard entertainment. Plus, the past passenger discounts and benefits RCCL offers have allowed us to reach Diamond Plus status in a short period of time. I know we will return to Carnival at some point for a "Fun Ship" cruise and hopefully the entertainment will have been at least slightly improved by that time. Just my 2 cents.......................
  11. And I'm still deciding what to upgrade my perfectly good iPhone 5S to. Have been told by many it is an "Antique". But it still works perfectly.😁📱
  12. Enjoying your review!!! Just off the Symphony Oct 5, and stayed in a JS with extended balcony on Deck 7. Your cabin had much more furniture than ours. We only had the 2 chairs with the footstools and the small table. Great you had extra furniture for unexpected new friends to visit. Have a wonderful time!!
  13. Here is something new. Symphony crew puts a key card in the slot for your cabin lights. So much for being green. John-We had that card in our cabin when we boarded Symphony also. Room Steward left it there by accident after cleaning.
  14. Love the Empress!!! Excellent food and staff and it really feels like you are sailing on a ship and not floating from port to port in a mall. Seriously, we enjoy all classes of RCCL ships, having sailed them all since the Nordic Prince. While the smaller ships lack the new amenities and "bells and whistles" of the mega ships, the connection to the sea and fellow passengers makes for a memorable vacation. Enjoy each ship for it's own individuality and forget about the comparisons. Life is too short to spend it finding fault.
