Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. We sailed in 8065. No noise from overhead but slightly more vibration than forward cabins. We like the quiet location - would book again,
  2. We’re thinking of booking this cruise. I notice Monte Carlo (Monaco) is a tender port. How do they manage boarding new passengers with check in, luggage etc.
  3. I haven’t sailed since January 2023 on Splendor. I don’t know if this made us members of either Ambassador or Society Member. i recommended Regent to friends who are now in the process of booking a 2024 cruise. They read somewhere that this would entitle us to a future cruise credit if we’re members. I don’t have any future cruises booked at the moment so it’s not a big deal - just curious. Has anyone heard of this?
  4. Champagne snorkel didn’t work for us. Too difficult to enter the water from the rocky beach with waves breaking over you. Those who went came back exhausted. The champagne bubbles were quite a distance away and against the tide. Also, when you arrive, the beach access is down a long series of uneven stones with no hand rail. We remained on our designated beach chairs and had our complimentary drink. At least we got to see some of the island during the ride.
  5. OMG😩. Fell and broke my shoulder last Sunday. Can’t imagine trip to airport, TSA, waiting area, boarding and dropping into one of those awful coach seats for 31/2 hours. Due to leave Oct. 11. Will see the orthopedic surgeon Wednesday to get his opinion. Anyone except the heroic RachaelG ever do something like this? I can’t take any narcotic type drugs so I’m relying on Tylenol and Motrin. Trip booked on Amex Platinum. Guess we’ll put it to the test😩.
  6. I noticed that five ports require tendering in Ireland on the June 21 sailing from Belfast. Does anyone have experience with this? Any idea how long it takes? Rough seas?
  7. We booked a cruise on Splendor seven months before sailing. With our concierge cabin we were were able to get the times we wanted for dining when the reservations became available. Your documents and on-line account clearly note the date. The time for us was 8:00PM Eastern time which is a good change. I used to wait up until midnight😩. I have to admit that I was poised on the Regent site the minute the reservations opened. There are such good options with Compass Rose, room service or the Terrace we weren’t really worried. Also, a good option on sea days is to go to one of the specialty restaurants for lunch. The more desirable excursions were totally booked since they open one year before sailing. We took some less than desirable excursions. We waitlisted on a few of them but they never cleared. You can always arrange your own tours but depending on the destination we found it easy to just take a taxi to wherever we wanted to go. Good luck with your bookings and have a great time!
  8. American Express Platinum trip cancellation insurance covers only those who are 79 years of age or younger. Important to know. Lots of cruisers in their 80s.
  9. I agree with MoneyGuy. I rely on my American Express Platinum card and have never bought additional insurance. After eight cruises I’ve saved enough for another cruise. I will admit that on longer cruises it’s taken nerves of steel. We’ve also been healthy and lucky.
  10. The classes are great and I always book one. I would schedule a late dinner that day as you will be eating the dishes you prepare in class. I’ve had classes that include a pre-drink as well as wine with the meal so it can be quite a feast. If you enjoy going to the show you’ll have to dine at 7:30 to 7:45 since the shows start at 9:30. If there are morning classes I would recommend them. I prefer to pass on lunch since dinner is an event we look forward to. Be sure to wear shoes with closed toes. I’ve seen people sent back to their cabins to change. Hot food and sharp knives are not good for open toed shoes. On Splendor there were several stools in the back of the room. Standing for two hours can be a long time and taking a break during the instruction part of the class is good. Enjoy!
  11. Very helpful information. I was unaware that I could put a seven day hold on a cabin without making that preliminary deposit. Can I do this on-line or through my TA? Thanks!
  12. Being first time Regent cruisers we were drawn in by the brochure advertising FREE unlimited excursions. What isn’t mentioned is that when you sign up and make your non refundable deposit you find out that since you are nine months out and others signed up one year out - all of the good/interesting excursions are totally booked. We wait listed but nothing cleared. Although we visited the destination services desk almost daily, nothing changed. We took some rather dreary long bus rides to boring locations. Not what I was thinking when we decided on Regent. Since we otherwise loved the cruise the lesson learned is - get a premium suite and sign up early. Prior to this we always sailed Oceania. I did lots of research on Trip Advisor, etc. and arranged some really outstanding excursions on our own. Guess I should have done this on Splendor. The OPs story is just so sad. I would have been in tears. I hope Regent makes an abject apology and gives her lots of OBCs.
  13. On a recent Splendor cruise we never saw anyone wearing jeans at dinner. Since it was a Caribbean cruise and we anticipated hot weather we simply didn’t bring jeans with us. I just think they’re uncomfortable in warm weather. Allowing them in the evening is a slippery slope. We were at the Ritz main dining room having dinner one night when a couple arrived wearing jeans, sneakers, muscle shirts and baseball caps. Our waiter informed us that they couldn’t be turned away because they were hotel guests. Don’t want to see this kind of thing on a luxury cruise ship.
  14. Could anyone in a Concierge on Splendor give me the name and magnification of the mirror on the dresser? I loved that mirror and want to order one. I’m not seeing anything similar while shopping online. There were some earlier questions about the shampoo and conditioner. I suggest bringing your own favorite products. Those little bottles are annoying to handle in the shower and the conditioner is watery and useless. Not a serious complaint but from now on I’m bringing my own - especially the conditioner.
