  1. I remember one cruise around the British Isles. I had forgotten it was a formal night and arrived at the MDR in jeans, casual shirt and jumper. The table next to us was a party of 6 all the men dressed in tuxedos, bow ties etc; and the women in evening dresses in fact a large majority of the dining room were in full fig or suits and ties. I must admit to feeling quite conspicuous that evening.
  2. Try and get onboard as early as possible, then find a seat in the Piazza, watch the safety video on my phone whilst relaxing with a bottle of Peroni and a tasty snack from the IC, after that report to our Muster Station Finally find our stateroom for a quick unpack, have a chat with our steward and then the cruise fun starts.
  3. Travelling at the end of April and the full events schedule for each day has been visible for about 2 weeks
  4. Have had no problem booking meals in the MDR for out forthcoming cruise on Sky. Booked for myself and wife + two other guests on a separate booking. Initially booked dining in Soliel dining room, but have now changed it to Cielo dining room for all meals without any problem at all.
  5. Still have both old and new apps on my phone atm as a belts and braces job. Just booked a cruise for October this year and it shows on the new app, together with our cruise in April and all our previous ones.
  6. Going on a cruise to the Nowwgian Fjords at the end of April. I wonder if anybody has been up there at that time year and can say what the temperature is like at that time of year. The most Northerly that we will be going is Alesund. We previously went to the Fjords in late August and had several days of temperatures in the high 20s and few with the inevitable rain. I should imagine that end of April will be several degrees colder. Thanks for any info.
  7. We have always booked balcony cabins, as we like to spend a lot of cabin time on the balcony especially if there is lovely scenery (eg; Fjords). We have recently considered inside cabins particularly if it is a winter cruise but not sure if I would like the claustrophobic feeling of an inside cabin

  9. Yes,, the total package is free upgrade from Plus to Premium, up to 30% off certain cruises and £50pp deposit. Valid, I think for bookings made by 5th March
  10. Downloaded tge new app a few days ago and must admit I quite like the layout. All my details and info from the old app seems to have transferred across quite seamlessly. Still going to keep the old app on my phone until its no longer usable.
  11. There is a good YouTube channel called Travel Blog Jamie where he reviews, amongst other things, several pre-cruise hotels in Southampton.
  12. Not sailing until end of April next year and I've booked all our MDR meals a few weeks ago on the App.
  13. I normally watch on the App via my phone in the Piazza whilst enjoying my first drink of the cruise. You should be able to see where your muster station is before the cruise by looking on the Ocean Ready app.¹
  14. We were on Sky in April and on the Plus package. My wife had a gelato, a single scoop I think, and no charge was ever made for it
  15. Apart from the smell of stale tobacco, I always thought that smoking in your cabin or balcony was considered a fire risk
  16. That is very sad news for me and the DW, as it was by far our favourite venue, and as we don't use the casino at all it just represents a loss of an excellent venue. We were on Sky in April this year, and Take 5 was pretty packed all evening. As somebody else has said I would probably reconsider my future cruising options.
  17. Yes, really disappointed that Geraingerfjord has been cancelled on our cruise next April, it was one of the places that I was mostly looking forward to. Although Alesund is a lovely place we've already been there and it doesn't really make up for this loss of location
  18. We are booked for a Fjords cruise in April 2024 and Geraingerfjord/Gerainger was part of the itinerary. Unfortunately I had an email from Princess to say that due to road closures in the area at that time the stop there has been cancelled. I'm not certain how long the road closures will be for, but I believe that Geraingerfjord is a regular stopping point for Princess
  19. Always preferred some form of sofa, even if it is just a love seat type, as for me it adds that extra little bit of comfort. Although if you want to watch TV in the Deluxe balconies you still would probably need to watch it from the bed as they are positioned at the end of the bed, and I don't think that the TVs swivel.
  20. Looks like cruising in Spain is going to add to your drinks, including those with drinks packages, and speciality dining according to this: https://www.travelgossip.co.uk/latestnews/cruise-lines-confirm-theyre-charging-passengers-more-for-drinks-and-meal-packages-while-in-spanish-waters/
  21. With the proposed introduction in 2024 of the ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System), does anybody have any information on this system and when in 2024 it will be implemented. From what I can see an Authorisation will be required for travel from the UK to the Schengen countries including those people on cruises.
  22. Saw it on Enchanted Princess last August, loved it. A couple sat next to us obviously didn't enjoy it as they left after about 20 minutes
  23. Thank you for the information warmwinds. I had seen these cruises via an email, which is what caught my interest. I think that these short cruises for 2024 from Portsmouth are at 30% off the normal fare and also has up to $300 bar tab credit depending on the length of the cruise, although I think I saw somewhere that they have to be booked before 30 September. We've previously sailed with Princess, Celebrity and RCL . As we are only 69 miles from Poortsmouth it's certainly something to seriously consider, although we have the Fjords booked with Princess for 2024 as well
  24. I'm 72 next year and my wife will be 64, but we are both "young at heart", with regard to music and outlook on life. Considering VV lean towards a younger demographic would a cruise with Virgin be suitable for a couple of "old codgers" like us. Thanks for any information
  25. We have booked the Fjords cruise on 27 April 2024, just to let anybody who has booked that cruise, and have not been notified, that the stops at Hellesylt and Geirangerfjord have been cancelled due to road closures during that period. An alternative stop has been arranged for Alesund (from 0800-1890hrs). .
