  1. So there are only 2 cruise ships in port when i go to sitka. Is that considered a small number? I guess i don’t want to get to the raptor center and fortress of the bear and find there is a line. It seems this is the advantage of the ship excursion that you don’t need to wait and i did get it on sale. However my excursion just goes to-raptor center and nature walk and i’m debating as it doesn’t go to fortress of the bear.
  2. Sorry for grouchy post. I just changed my subscription to once a week as i found it too active. And i am interested in hearing from people who have recommendations from new menu! I am going into cruise knowing food won’t be great but price and itinerary were right. I signed up for chops and giovanni lunch to compensate.
  3. I don’t understand the point of this thread. If you are unhappy with food, switch to another cruise line.
  4. Can you recommend any favorite spots on the brilliance? I’ll be there on june alaska sailing. I’ll avoid windjammer over concerns about norovirus.
  5. Just a note for those who haven't booked already. The Royal Caribbean Multi glacier cruises go to juneau, ketchikan and sitka. Not sure how sitka compares as a port but id' rather go there then miss a port altogether.
  6. Is there a way to see which dock the ship is at? I was interested whether Brilliance of the Seas was at a close dock at Juneau or if we'd have to bus in. Sorry i realize unrelated to topic.
  7. Thanks for posting about 5 cruise ship limit in Juneau. Looks like i'm ok on june 28 as 5 ships in port. Day before is showing 6 ships. I'd be mad to miss a port.
  8. Thanks for those posting your favorite dishes. This is more helpful then hearing the same complaints about the food over and over.
  9. I was thinking of going to anabelle’s for dungeness crab legs. I am going the end of june. Should the crab be fresh-at that time?
  10. Thanks for the replies. Does anyone know if esims work in alaska. Looks like at&t has one but not available to canadians. Looks like my new phone has an esim.
  11. Thanks. Thats good to know. I wouldn’t want to get something and find it doesn’t work.
  12. Does anyone know if at&t works in alaska in the cruise ports (juneau, ketchikan, sitka) I’m canadian and was thinking of getting an at&t prepaid phone card.
  13. I finally took the plunge and booked the island wings misty fjords flight tour. I decided for my 50th it was more special to do that rather than bering fisherman’s tour. Its tough as there are a lot of good excursions in ketchikan. The silver king lodge tour also sounds good.
  14. Thanks Ashland. So did they just take cash?
  15. Has anyone bought the raptor centre/fortress of the bear excursion when they got off the ship and knows what it costs? I paid 44 through cruise line to go to the raptor centre and a nature walk and i wonder if buying it in port is cheaper. I’m not sure if i made a mistake not including fortress of the bear in my tour as well.
  16. I found out from an excursion operator that brilliance of the seas is docked right in town for the ketchikan stop for my cruise so i guess its not always far away. How do i find out where its docked in juneau?
  17. Thanks Wolfie. I did see a king salmon sandwich at hanger on the wharf in juneau so i guess i could consider that.
  18. Does salmon in Alaska taste different? I’m from bc so we have quite a bit of salmon. I was debating what to eat in alaska. I was thinking chowder or dungeness crab legs then my mom mentioned salmon. I’m thinking i’d go out to eat in juneau.(I did not like the king crab legs at Tracys) however the salmon at annabelles in ketchikan sounded good.
  19. Thanks! Its hard as i'm booked for deadliest catch tour that day which i would have to cancel. I've also been looking at taku lodge but when i look at pictures misty fjords seems more impressive, but missing taku lodge component.
  20. I don't think island wings specifically has been in any crashes. I would still think its these smaller planes that are getting into crashes though.
  21. I'm actually seriously thinking of taking the plunge on the taku lodge excursion. The misty fjords with island wings looks beautiful but i don't know that i'm comfortable with such a small plane. It looks like a toy. They do have a really good safety record which helps but i just don't know i'd feel comfortable. I suppose i could look into another provider but don't know that they'd be as reputable
  22. Do we have right until the beginning of the cruise to avoid the tip increase or is it before final payment?
  23. When i think about my cruise, tips only work out to a bit over 10% on cruise amount. That doesn’t seem like a lot.
  24. Thanks, i just wonder if i’ll feel guilty not tipping in the restaurant. I’d rather tip in the restaurant then do the auto gratuity. You are right, maybe the service will be spectacular and i’ll feel compelled to tip.
