  1. I meant the US doesn’t have a boxing day like Canada does. Boxing Day in canada is just like black friday and dedicated to sales. We had it before black friday even existed though. I feel sure if the US had it princess would have a sale but alas no. Maybe princess could have a canadian dollar at par sale just for Canadians! I can hope:-)
  2. Well, i guess this explains a lot why americans wouldn’t expect a sale!
  3. Sorry maybe that is a canadian thing! Boxing day is after christmas day. Traditionally its a day to exchange gifts but in reality its about shop sales. Isn’t that in the states too?
  4. I’m not sure why i didn’t get an answer here. Is there likely to be a boxing day or new years day sale where they offer extra obc? Thank you for your response!
  5. Just a comment i know someone who experienced a 3 day typhoon going from vancouver to hawaii. So i know some people dislike the poa, but i wouldn’t want to risk having potentially rough sea days.
  6. Thanks everyone for continued conversation. I would like to see all 4 islands. Plus i wouldn’t feel comfortable renting a car and i don’t think transit is feasable except in oahu where I’ve already been. I will check out oct-dec prices as suggested. American thanksgiving would work well for me as i’m canadian,
  7. Thanks its good to know the distinction. Particularly as i'm canadian and obc is paid in us dollars, obc can make a difference.
  8. I am aware princess and royal caribbean give double obc if you are booking a regular room (not a solo room) but Holland America doesn’t (this makes me mad). Does celebrity give double obc for a regular room?
  9. I see princess has changed their sale promotion and it doesn’t seem very good. I’m wondering if they ever offer a christmas, boxing day or new years sale. I feel i may have missed the boat on loveboat sale. Wasn’t it better obc?
  10. I still haven’t received my refunds. They said they processed them thursday.
  11. Thanks. I'll go on either a princess or royal caribbean cruise to Alaska in the spring.
  12. I’m confused if you still need a covid test if you are leaving on a cruise from canada?
  13. Thanks. This is alaska so in the states. As long as i can quarantine onboard since i’d hate to be stranded in a small alaskan town. The website doesn’t say much.
  14. Is there someone who can point me to princess’s covid policy? I’m wondering what happens if you get covid on board.
  15. I haven’t got mine yet but i’m from canada so i suppose could take longer or so they claim.
  16. Wow thanks for that detailed summary. Its really tough as the other consideration is the princess cruise i'm looking at is a 10 day cruise (more are 10 days out of vancouver) vs. 7 day cruise on Royal caribbean and i'm not sure i want to take 2 weeks off work. I did get 35% off some excursions on royal caribbean which is good with a flash sale. I was able to book the bering fisherman's tour which i understand is popular. But still. I may see if princess has one of their obc specials as a solo traveller i get double obc. Arrghh. The special alaska stuff sounds really nice. Plus the royal caribbean cruise is the summer whereas the princess one is in the spring and i heard the skagway train excursion can be nice with the snow on the mountains. I am disappointed royal caribbean doesn't have better food too. My parents just went on a cruise with them and they weren't impressed either. Its hard to decide! For me food is important too.
  17. Are there any times when pride of america is cheaper? It almost seems like its cheaper to book at last minute for it, but i don't know if thats true. Are there any months that are cheaper or do they ever drop the price? I'm a canadian solo traveller so i am experiencing a double whammy in terms of cost but in just hearing someone experienced a typhoon when they were travelling to hawaii from vancouver, this makes me want to just fork over the cash for the pride of america sailing.
  18. Thanks everyone. Yes it really is cost vs. experience. With royal caribbean i have a cruise credit. Princess price is a fairly good deal as low single supplement but not as cheap. As Sea Hag says there is no guarantee with tracy arm. I would go end of june but that is still fairly early in the season. Princess cruise also goes to icy strait which i haven’t been to. I thought the food was better on princess but i don’t really know.
  19. Thanks. I should have mentioned i’ve bern to glacier bay already and was interested going to a different glaciet.
  20. I’m debating to take a cruise to alaska via princess or royal caribbean. The royal caribbean cruise is cheaper so i’m inclined to take that. However i’ve heard princess has special events and even dinners specific to alaska. Is that the case? Also is the food better on princess vs. Royal caribbean? The cruises both go to hubbard, although royal caribbean goes to tracy arm too. I’m also interested if princess ever puts excursions on sale.
  21. I am shocked. I accidentally paid the full princess fare and it posted on nov 28. I just received the refund for it today! This shows they can be fast when they want to be, or at least princess is.
  22. I guess i never really understood what the taxes were for when you paid them.
  23. I don't understand why an excursion isn't acceptable. As it is now, some excursions sell out. Its the passengers who sign up early who get first dibs.
  24. I think i’ll phone thursday if i haven’t seen the refund by then.Bet they’ll blame it on the fact i’m from canada.
