    If Dock 2 is damaged bad enough and the only other option is a couple TA's with a week-long drydock in the middle, I wonder if Norfolk even an option...

    Large video boards like these are absolutely modular.  Not only does it make it easier to ship them for installation but it also makes them more cost-effective to repair if a segment fails.  These screens are very likely similar to those in baseball and football stadiums, if they aren't even from the same manufacturer.

     

    Do they keep spare parts on board?  Possibly, though the unit in the Seaplex on Anthem continued losing segments through the cruise I was on last year.  There certainly wouldn't be enough on board to completely replace one of these screens, the missing/damaged structure not withstanding.

    I know this from experience.  Somewhere between the porter drop-off and the room both the RCI-supplied (but printed and attached by me) tag and a regular luggage tag that had been through several airline flights were both gone and I had to seek out my bag at guest services.  Mine wasn't the only bag this happened to.  What a way to start your first cruise!!

     

    You can get plastic sleeves that attach with a cable loop (the "clasp" is a screw-together barrel) to help prevent this, but do NOT attach those until after any airline flights you take to get to port.

You would need to read the contract with Saga to find that out.  Unless the flights were booked through the cruise line they bear no responsibility to get you to the next port.  Next in line is Saga, who booked you on a "tight" schedule flying you in the day of the cruise (did they offer an option to do it the day before?), if the flight they booked you on is delayed then their contract would apply.  If their contract does not cover this, your insurance would.

    Let me guess, a ship with RFID doors and the seapass card wouldn't work after the hole punch?  We were told on Anthem last year that they wouldn't (or couldn't) punch a hole due to the RFID chip in the card...

    I will second this.  We did just fine with local transportation and self-planning things to do when I was there a few years ago.  The benefit of being docked for 3 days is that you can spend the first 2 really exploring the island, with your only time limitation being transportation back to the ship, the 3rd day could be spent in the vicinity of the port.  The old fort there can take some time to go through (if that's something that interests you) and you can go in and out throughout the day once you've paid once.

    I'd be curious how much one of those policies costs compared to one that doesn't pay for missed ports, and what the payout is for a missed port.  Is there really value to the customer to go to the effort to find such a policy, buy it and then spend the time to file the paperwork to get whatever that insurance company values the missed port at?  The cruise line is already compensating in the refund of port fees and any excursions purchased.

     

    As for NCL skipping GSC, it seems like NCL skips their island A LOT more than RCI skips Coco Cay which is right next to GSC.  Yes, RCI now has a pier on their island but that was just opened last month.  Is NCL more cautious, are their tenders less able to handle certain conditions (maybe they'll buy RCI's tenders and make the stop more often?)?  In actuality, unless the conditions preclude use of tenders, certain conditions may still be contradictory to docking for RCI since there's no breakwater there but it seems like there are a LOT more "we skipped GSC" posts here than "we skipped Coco Cay" posts in the RCI forum.

    OMG, they made it WORSE for those that can't afford to pay extra for everything?  The bumper cars were one of the WORST-MANAGED parts of that ship when I was on her a year ago.  They had a line 2/3 of the way around the venue and were letting some teens get back in the front of the line with friends as soon as they got off, so they could get right back on.  This was before this "genie" program.

    This wasn't the issue the NCL passengers had.  They booked what turned out to be cheaper cruises (above and beyond the price-protected cruises that were offered in compensation) in order to use their FCC only to find that the FCC doesn't pay for the port taxes and fees on the new cruise, it only pays the base fare.

    I believe someone posted a Twitter screenshot indicating that those that "paid" with future cruise credit would get that credit refunded, I imagine your situation should be similar.

     

    It should also be noted (unless NCL and Royal have different policies) that the future cruise credit applies ONLY to the cruise fare and not to port fees and taxes.  Some folks on from the NCL Epic trips that had problems last month were disappointed to learn that they couldn't use that future cruise credit toward a cheaper cruise and have the port fees and taxes covered.

    They would need to read their contracts closely, I imagine there's language in there to protect the insurance company in the event the cruise line is refunding the fare directly.
