Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Why is there such a visceral need to savagely refute or gaslight the OP? This happens frequently across the different cruise line threads. Our experiences are our own and cruise lines are consistently inconsistent. Just because an issue was handled one way last month doesn't mean it will be handled the same way today. Same with service, food, etc. I don't post much but I've been on here a while and I love the valuable information and trip reports, but sincerely dislike some of the uncivil, nasty stuff. PLEASE, love each other and be nice.
  2. I'm amazed at how fast your bus got from port of LB to LAX. I lived in LB from 86 to 92 and San Pedro before that, it would have been a miracle then and I know traffic hasn't gotten better (at least when we go to visit the fam it sure hasn't!) You were definitely blessed with good karma for that ride (although afterwards was a trial.) Love your reports!
  3. We were surprised by Jersey week a few years ago at Universal Orlando during a "slow" time. It was all good since we were staying at a resort with Express Pass included. Now we do our trips the first week of December if we can get the time. 🙂
  4. Thank you for generously taking us with you. I am really looking forward to this. I have been lurking on your trip reports for a couple of years. Love, love, love your reports - lots of good info and fun pictures. I haven't cruised since the 90s (some very fun, wild girls cruises when I lived in Long Beach). Taking the husband, mom, and auntie next April. If they like it, we'll go more often. Gotta say this: every child is different and I'm sad you even have to address the "elephant in the room." You as the parent know your child best and you should NEVER have to justify a well-thought out action you take on behalf of your child. People that jump to conclusions or judgement really wrinkle my shorts. They may base their judgement on what they have seen or heard but that does not necessarily apply to you. My oldest is autistic and on vacation wears long sleeve shirts, pants, and a hat (didn't like the breeze on body hairs) as well as noise cancelling headphones. Once we got that sorted when he was about 4, we had no worries about meltdowns and a sedate cruise would have been perfect. (Even with the DAS, Disney was a no-no😥). The middle one is a cancer survivor who is an old soul. He would have loved a Celebrity or Holland cruise. Before he got sick, he hiked with his grandma's hiking group and would regale the seniors - he could discuss Hope & Crosby movies, recite Jeff Foxworthy's redneck bits, or sing (badly) 50s and 60s tunes while doing 8-10 miles in the desert (at 8!!) The youngest, well, he would be bored stiff on a Celebrity cruise. He loves the action (until he collapses - at Knotts Berry Farm in Buena Park, CA we had to take a two hour time-out at Independence Hall and he had a docent all to himself. It calmed him down and he learned some cool history - win, win!) Sorry about the rant. Also, just so you know, I read your reports out loud to my mother who has only cruised once in 2006 on HAL to Alaska and she LOVES them. I have to show her the pics and she can't wait to go to the Caribbean next year. Now she'll want to go to Mexico too!😄 Thanks again for sharing your trip...
  5. Late to the party, but happy to be here. Hunter Thompson, Fear and Loathing shirt?
  6. Loving your report - you travel the way my family does: roll with things and drink the calories on vacation 😁 Your pictures are awesome too. I hurl a little every time I see the handles of the tongs laying on the food (cheese, bread) in the buffet. Erk! 🤮 My kids laugh at me, but the whole germ thing is gross. I work in a large high school (and adults are not much better at all!) and people are dirty birds. No buffets for mom or I. Hubs and kids do them occasionally though. Sorry about the rant - anyway, your writing style is really fun - thank you!
  7. Thank you. We will know several months in advance so it appears to be no problem.
  8. Have cruised HAL, never Celebrity yet. We have two cabins booked on Apex for April 2024. My DH and I in one, Mom & Auntie in the other. My aunt has limited mobility and health issues (and lost her husband in October) so Mom wants to pre-book a couple of special dinners and a cabana (to avoid lounger stress.) If Auntie can't make it, can we change the specialty ressies from 4 to 3 and cancel the cabana for a refund in say, January 2024? Thanks!
  9. I certainly hope Celebrity is monitoring and ready to adjust. We paid extra to book a refundable cruise due to the end of CWC. We'll be watching to see how X handles positive cases. If paying customers are still downgraded for isolation, we'll cancel and travel independently (with contingency plans of course!).
  10. JetBlue, thank you so much for sharing your experience AND being so upbeat. Best wishes for good health and good fortune to you and your husband going forth.
