  1. Appreciate these great comments and follow-ups. Keep it coming!! Yes, pricing is a good, serious question. How does management and consumers react as pricing goes up, UP?? This includes as to if and when does the next stock market/economy adjustment happen? And how "deep" will that type of recession be? From this key financial news website yesterday, they had this headline: “Royal Caribbean Stock Is Up Over 150% In the Last Year. Is It Too Late to Buy?” with these highlights: “The stock trades at a reasonable valuation despite the rising stock price. Royal Caribbean stock has outperformed its main competitors. The company is adding capacity despite the massive debt load.” Here is more from their reporting/analysis: "Its total debt of $21 billion continues to fall, albeit slowly. This represents a substantial burden considering the $7 billion in shareholders' equity. Fortunately, this has not stopped Royal Caribbean from adding capacity as demand for cruises soars. Given current conditions, it is likely not too late to buy Royal Caribbean stock. Admittedly, the company lags behind Carnival in passenger counts, and Carnival remains a cheaper stock from a P/E ratio perspective. Also, the size of Royal Caribbean's debt load undoubtedly burdens its balance sheet." Full story at: https://www.fool.com/investing/2024/11/03/royal-caribbean-stock-up-150-too-late-buy/ THANKS! 2. There are more details and follow-up to share from the Thursday quarterly report and the Q&A session with the Royal Caribbean CEO, etc. From this travel news website, they had this headline: “Royal Caribbean Credits Private Islands for Soaring Bookings” with these highlights: “One cruise line is celebrating an increase in bookings as it shares its third quarter results with stakeholders – but the reason for the heightened demand is somewhat surprising. Royal Caribbean’s current high book rate seems to be driven more by the innovation happening on land than by the experiences at sea. The cruise line has been expanding and improving its private island destinations – completing an extensive remodel of the existing Perfect Day at CocoCay in the Bahamas and announcing two new private island destinations that are currently in progress.” Silversea, to my knowledge, does not do the "private island" thing, but this story gives insights as to the overall RCL corporate strategies and their ways to attract and satisfy certain customer interests. 3. WOW!! What a fascinating week for the stock market and the cruise stocks. Hard to summarize, especially as two of the three major cruise lines had quarterly reports and their top executives did Question-and-Answer sessions with Wall Street analysts. Below are the Wall Street Journal charts from this past week. Your reactions and predictions for the future? Don't be shy!! Share your future speculation. From a travel news website this morning, they had this headline: “Royal Caribbean CEO’s Premium Push: Better Pricing, Shorter Cruises, Younger Passengers” with these highlights: “Royal Caribbean Group's CEO Jason Liberty has a strategy to push his customer base upmarket. Liberty believes there's more willingness among consumers to pay more for premium leisure travel than previously assumed. When CEO Jason Liberty discusses Royal Caribbean Group’s competition, he doesn’t mention Carnival Corporation. Instead, the CEO name-checks Orlando and Las Vegas. The CEO’s strategy is to steer Royal Caribbean Group toward competing with premium land-based resorts.” Here is another key segment from this reporting: "Liberty is positioning the world’s second-largest cruise operator as a provider of Instagrammable vacation activities that happen to take place at sea." How does Silversea fit and connect within this type of strategy? Here is more financial data from their reporting to help provide some added context: "The company has also been expanding its guest acquisition into wealthier demographics: Royal Caribbean brand: $125,000 median household income Celebrity Cruises: $150,000 median household income Silversea: $250,000-$500,000 household income range Liberty noted a broader consumer shift from buying stuff to experiences. He also cited a 'flight to quality,' where financially resilient consumers are paying up for reliable premium experiences." 4. From this Wall Street Journal-related financial news website yesterday, they had this headline: “Royal Caribbean CEO: Americans are ‘wealthier than ever’ and love to travel" with this sub-headline: "Cruise operator beats profit expectations and the full-year guidance was raised, but the outlook for the current quarter disappoints.” Here are some of their reporting highlights: “Shares of Royal Caribbean swung higher Tuesday toward another record close, after the cruise operator beat third-quarter earnings expectations and raised the full-year outlook, as bookings for future cruises continued to increase. And while revenue continued to rise amid stronger pricing and continued 'strong' and 'quality' demand, it came up a touch shy of expectations as passenger ticket revenue missed, to offset a beat by onboard and other revenue. The company also raised its full-year guidance for adjusted profit and net yields, and gave an early upbeat outlook for 2025, but the profit outlook for the current quarter was below Wall Street estimates.” Also: “American households are wealthier than ever, with continued wage growth and low unemployment driving strong consumer spending, spend on leisure has grown a lot faster than most other spend categories over the past 12 months, with spend on travel increasing at a faster pace than other leisure categories,” said Chief Executive Jason Liberty on the post-earnings call with analysts. “Our research suggests that this trend will continue over the next 12 months, with leisure travel spending growing by more than any other leisure category.” For RCL stock, this report detailed: "The stock has rocketed 152.6% over the past 12 months, while the S&P 500 index has rallied 41.6%." 6. Good luck with your upcoming cruise in December involving Egypt. Situations are still very challenged in and around the Middle East these days. Hope things work out OK. As to your question, what cruise line are you using? Hopefully there might be a section on Cruise Critic for that line. Then, search to see if you can find a "Roll Call" thread connected with that cruise line. Or, write to a couple of the major tour companies to see if they can connect or hook you up with another couple or larger group. Keep searching!! Any other questions? THANKS! Enjoy! 7. Royal Caribbean just hit another 52-week high yesterday. Over $214 a share!! Why? See the WSJ chart and the background story below. From this financial news website yesterday, they had this headline: “Royal Caribbean Clears Entry, Surges On Results, Hiked Guidance” with these highlights: “Royal Caribbean is the IBD Stock Of The Day for Tuesday. RCL stock reversed to clear a follow-on entry opportunity after the cruise giant reported Q3 results and raised its outlook. Royal Caribbean on Tuesday reported a 35% increase in earnings to $5.20 per share adjusted, which beat FactSet expectations of $5.04 per share. Revenue increased 17.5% to $4.89 billion, just below analyst views. The company's occupancy rate, or load factor, rose to 111% for the quarter, up from 108% in Q2 and about 110% last year, respectively. Passenger ticket revenues increased 18% to $3.47 billion, while onboard and other revenues rose 16% to about $1.42 billion.” This detailed story also reported: "The company noted that demand for 2025 remains "strong," with its booked load factors in line with prior years at higher rates. That should allow for further pricing and yield growth as 2025 bookings ramp up, Royal Caribbean said in the news release." Are the "good times" back? And for how long will it continue up, UP? But, at what future pricing hikes as the cruise lines ride the wave of consumer confidence and spending? Things also continue upward for Carnival and Norwegian. 12. From the Telegraph in India this morning, they had this headline: “Discover Istanbul in 48 hours – its history, culture and food” with these highlights: “Istanbul is a magical city that has captured the curiosity and hearts of many travellers. Turkey’s vast history, incredible food and unique culture makes it an attractive tourist spot so much so that it’s considered one of the top five most visited cities in the world. It’s the only city to straddle two continents with the Bosphorus strait in between. The city is vibrant and full of surprises.” A wide variety of options and potential are outlined in this profile. This includes: "Start your day by visiting the beautiful Sultan Ahmed Mosque or the Blue Mosque, as it’s popularly known. Built in 1609 to 1616 AD, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is a magnificent piece of architecture which represents Byzantine and Ottoman cultures. Apart from the blue tiles inside which give it its name, the most distinctive element is that it has six minarets while most mosques usually have two or four minarets." One of their top picks? Barbados! Their details: “Why Go Now: Encounter a new perspective on slave trade history. The role that Barbados played in the story of slavery in the Americas is easily overlooked. An ambitious new project on the island—a major entry point for millions of enslaved Africans—seeks to change that. The new Barbados Heritage District, scheduled to open in 2025 and located where many of the enslaved were buried, was designed by David Adjaye, the Ghanaian-British architect behind the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C. After a four-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the Eastern & Oriental Express, by luxury train operator Belmond, returned to service in 2024 with a glamorous facelift. Cherry wood paneling and Malaysian silks adorn the 15 train carriages, which include an elegant piano bar car and open-air observation car. 16. Appreciate this great follow-up question from our RI-Florida friend. From many years of listening to and following various cruise corporation quarterly reports, I have not heard them detailing the financial aspects as to the various divisions such as Silversea and Celebrity. It would be interesting to see that data. From this Wall Street Journal-related financial news website yesterday, they had this headline: “Barclays Sticks to Their Buy Rating for Royal Caribbean” with these highlights: “Barclays analyst Brandt Montour maintained a Buy rating on Royal Caribbean and set a price target of $244.00. Royal Caribbean has an analyst consensus of Strong Buy, with a price target consensus of $195.79, a -2.06% downside from current levels. In a report released on October 15, Goldman Sachs also maintained a Buy rating on the stock with a $220.00 price target. Based on the recent corporate insider activity of 64 insiders, corporate insider sentiment is negative on the stock. Over the past quarter there has been an increase of insiders selling their shares of RCL in relation to earlier this year.” Full story at: https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/barclays-sticks-to-their-buy-rating-for-royal-caribbean-rcl-1033870130 THANKS! 17. From this Wall Street Journal-connected financial news website yesterday, they had this headline: “Royal Caribbean set for strong quarter, momentum into 2025, says analyst" with this sub-headline: "Cruise Operator Royal Caribbean reports third-quarter results on Oct. 29.” Here are some of their reporting highlights: “Royal Caribbean Group is set for another strong quarter, with all signs pointing to continued momentum into 2025, according to William Blair in a note released Friday. 'We expect another quarter of upside at Royal Caribbean, including constant-currency net yield growth at or ahead of the high end of guidance of 7% on broad-based strength in ticket pricing and onboard spending,' William Blair analyst Sharon Zackfia said in the note.” By early afternoon today, Royal Caribbean was up, UP nicely per this below Wall Street Journal stock chart. Both Carnival and Norwegian were up today, but not by as large of percentages as with RCL. Here is more from their reporting: " 'Royal’s stock has surged more than 50% so far this year on upward earnings revisions and multiple expansion back to the levels historically averaged in the years leading up to the pandemic,' wrote Zackfia. William Blair reiterated its outperform rating for Royal Caribban. Of 24 analysts surveyed by FactSet, 18 have an overweight or buy rating for Royal Caribbean and six have a hold rating. In a note released last week, Melius Research said that the sector of the travel industry with the best setup heading into earnings is cruise lines." 18. YES!!! If this new Silversea leader is reading all of the social media feedback, why does he not respond, be honest and answer some of these serious questions and concerns from experienced and smart SS customers. From our Silver Moon India to Singapore sailing in February and monitoring the Royal Caribbean finances over the recent years, my concern/fear is that the RCL CFO types and other "Bean-Counter" folks in Miami and Monaco believe they can keep upping prices higher . . . AND HIGHER!!! But, in my view, there are limits and economic reality that will set in at a certain future point in time. For many past Silversea customers like us, it is a question about "VALUE" and does SS keep its word to deliver what they claim and promise. Answer the questions and be honest. Listen to experienced Silversea customers if this new leader wants to gain confidence and re-build trust. On our recent Silver Moon sailing, as detailed below, there were many positives and pluses, especially by the staff on the ship. But, there were also slips and misses, many directed/caused by the corporate higher-ups who fail to understand customer expectations and needs. 21. Now that Cruise Critic has fixed their technical issues from yesterday, below is an updated graphic confirming that Royal Caribbean has jumped up, UP over the $200 a share level. Below is the WSJ closing chart from late this afternoon. This includes Tuesday's big, BIG jumps ups for the cruise stocks. From MSN News today, they had this headline: “Americans Are Still Shopping. These Are the Consumer Stocks to Buy.” with these highlights: “Shoppers are showing no signs of fatigue ahead of the holidays. Even though inflation continues to crimp people’s spending power, U.S. retail sales for September are expected to continue to pick up steam following a surprisingly strong gain in August.” This viewpoint reflects consumer confidence in a positive manner. Also cited in this article: "Chris Senyek, chief investment strategist with Wolfe Research, is bullish on consumer spending. He thinks investors should pick their spots wisely. He said that big broadline retailers, such as Amazon.com, are a good bet. Senyek also is making a bet on a rebound in the housing market as interest rates fall. He also recommends the cruise lines, which have all done well this year. Carnival, Royal Caribbean Cruises, and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings are each trading near 52-week highs." 24. Super appreciate your very kind comments, learning that my post have been helpful. Good follow-up info from you. Clearly from DC and Dulles, you have many airline options, including with flights going through the Middle East, Turkey, etc. Given the variations in travel experiences with your partner having done so much and you much less, much of this is a "personal decision/choice" for what fits best to your style/desires. My gut is that either can work, both reasonably somewhat equal. Of course, it's a long, long ways to Mumbai (8000 miles) and Singapore (9650 miles). Given the long, long flights to get there and the large number of time zone changes, you might want your cruise starting point to be . . . after you have had the maximum time to arrive ahead of time, get rested and re-orienting your body clock, etc. Visa and getting into Singapore is very easy, while India is more complicated. BUT, you will have to do the India Visa complications in advance via the web whether your cruise starts or ends in Mumbai. In summary, without knowing your travel style, loves and interests, I would rate the routing options to be fairly or somewhat similar. The bigger questions might also include timing questions as you want to avoid the rainy seasons for India and parts of SE Asia. Also, in going east-to-west or west-to-east, check as to if the pricing and availabilities are a better value for one way versus the other. 25. Here are a couple of stories that might be of interest for Lisbon. From MSN News and a travel news website earlier this week, they had this headline: “This Lisbon Stopover Itinerary Will Make Every Second Count!” with these highlights: “Something to consider is how incredibly affordable Portugal is right now. You won’t be tacking on too much to your trip budget by stopping for a night or two.” Different ideas and options are outlined for doing such a quick stopover for sampling and enjoying Lisbon. Here is also this recent article related to dining options with the headline: "TASTIEST MICHELIN-STARRED RESTAURANTS IN LISBON." They summarize: "Lisbon offers an off-the-road culinary experience, not only because of its singular cuisine traditions but also thanks to the talented chefs who were born and raised in Portugal. Still unexplored, the city remains nostalgic, always looking back at its great past but in the last few years opening itself to curious travellers from all over the world. This influenced the traditional dishes to evolve in a great mix of tastes and flavours, that can only be found in Lisbon." Among those locations cited and detailed are: Belcanto, Alma, Feitoria, 100 Maneiras, Epur, Loco and Fifty Seconds. Anyone tried any of these dining spots?
