  1. Thank you for your response and experience. I was/am most concerned regarding medical evacuation in the “worst case scenario “ situation. It’s good to know that’s covered by the Coast Guard in Alaska waters.
  2. I'm taking my mom on an Alaska cruise. I live in Georgia - she lives in Alabama. Travelex has quoted me two separate policies so double the cost to insure myself and my daughter (1 household in Georgia) and my mom in Alabama. I'm not as concerned about the cost of the cruise itself as I am making sure she is covered for any medical emergencies. She has Medicare and a supplemental policy. Our cruise starts and ends in Vancouver and stops in Icy Straight, Juneau, Ketchikan and back to Vancouver. Is the insurance worth it? or will/should her Medicare/Supplemental insurance cover her? Thoughts??
  3. We reserved that room as we don’t want to look down on a life boat - if anyone knows if there is a life boat under that cabin I’d love to know! I can’t find a photo or video that confirms that or the location of the upper bed.
  4. Oops!!! The cabin we reserved is 7196!!! So sorry for the confusion! Thank you to all who have responded!
  5. I've searched the "compilation thread" as well as everywhere else on this site, YouTube, etc. and can't find definitive proof of where the Upper Berth is located on a Veranda cabin that shows a Triangle only on the deck plan. Specifically I'm looking at Cabin 7198. Will it come down from the ceiling over the sofa? Someone told me they were once on a boat where this berth came down over the queen bed so I want to make sure that is NOT the case. I want a room where it come down over the sofa. Can anyone confirm?? Also, does the room steward put the berth up each night so that it's not in your way during the day? Thank you for any help!
  6. The cruise we are looking at is 7/28-8/4. I’m thinking we’d arrive in Vancouver on 7/26.
  7. Thank you so much for these incredible responses! They are so helpful and I so much appreciate the time taken and depth of your responses! We are, in fact, 3 generations of ladies . My daughter and I live in Atlanta, GA so we are very familiar with crime, shady areas and being aware of our surroundings. The day trip to Victoria I was considering was a day trip by mini coach. After considering I think you are right to advise we skip Victoria on this trip. I welcome any and all tips and advice you are willing to share on 2 days in Vancouver!!!
  8. In Vancouver for two days prior to an Alaskan cruise this Summer. Traveling with my 75 year old mom and my teenage daughter. Should we take a day trip to Victoria on our 1 full day?? We like old architecture and gardens. What should we see in Vancouver? We will have a 1/2 day the day we arrive and then 1/2 day on cruise departure day as well as another 1/2 day when we return. Also, any suggestions for hotels that are in a easy walking area to restaurants and maybe shopping at a public market? We will not have a car.
  9. I'm trying to determine the value of upgrading to Princess Plus on an Alaska cruise. Can anyone tell me the cost of wifi if I want to add it on? If I want iced Tea and Coke products how much will they cost and/or can I bring them on board to have in my cabin? Also, can I bring bottles of wine on board to have in my cabin if I don't want to do a wine package?
  10. I am beginning my research to take my 75 year old Mother on an Alaska cruise (just Mom and me). I am thinking 7 days departing from Seattle. Which cruise line should we focus our attention? We are considering late August due to scheduling conflicts other months. Glacier Bay is on her bucket list and I know only some lines have access. I appreciate any advice. We are trying to keep cost as low as possible so any tips in that regard would be appreciated. I've cruised several times before with my family and we've always gotten a veranda (never to Alaska) however it may be out budget for this trip - will it be terribly missed on an Alaska cruise?
  11. We are a family of three (Mom, Dad and 16yo) interested in taking a 4-7 night cruise on the Rhine or Danube next June (2024). We want to combine this with other stops in Europe so looking to keep cost reasonable. Would love Adventures by Disney or Tauck but for three they are out of our range. I've found a few possible cruise on ARosa but don't know anything about the company. Can anyone share their experience with them vs other boats in the area?
  12. We are planning a trip to France and Germany next Summer - specifically to tour Paris and Munich but want to explore the region a bit as well. Are there companies that run short river cruises from these areas? Our 16 year old will be with us so must allow teens. I appreciate any advice or thoughts.
  13. I understand pre-cruise testing is no longer required. What happens if you test positive while ON the ship? Are you required to quarantine in your room? What are the rules?
  14. We've cruised with Disney 2 times before - never Concierge. Planning a Halloween on the High Seas trip and considering. Will be myself, husband and our 15 year old daughter. Convince me the extra cost is worth it .... I will be traveling 6 months after major foot surgery so shorter lines sound appealing. Will our daughter see any of the benefits as well?
  15. Thank you for everyones responses. They are so helpful as I've walked through the risks associated with planning a trip while recovering! I'd expect that I am not the only one who spends their time while laid up, homebound planning a trip for better days! We've decided to research trips that are on the lower side of costs and rely on a "Cancel for any Reason" plan offered through a cruise line. Although these plans generally give you only 75% of your cruise cost back towards a future cruise (depending on the line) at least its something. I do realize we'd be out the cost of the plan itself as well, hence looking for lower cost cruises to minimize the financial risk (plan cost + 25% of cruise cost). Also, for those researching this topic in a similar situation .... I did confirm the medical coverage on these plans would likely not cover me (or at least anything related to my current injury) so making sure my medical insurance covers me wherever we go is key! I was told they do a 60 day "look back" to determine coverage - 60 days prior to the date you purchase the coverage. If anyone has any further tips or information given my situation please share!! Thanks again!
  16. That’s great information. I’m most interested in a cash back plan instead of a future cruise. Thank you!
  17. I am recovering from foot/ankle surgery and want to plan a summer cruise. I expect to be able to travel by our trip date however due to my foot I’m not eligible under the pre-existing clauses for cancellation. I want to purchase insurance for the “what if”. My best bet is a cancel for any reason policy. Which company has the best policy?
  18. Will there be other teens on the Windstar boats for an Alaskan cruise during the Summer months? Our daughter does need all the entertainment but it would be fun to make some friends.
  19. Trying to weigh the cost of a Lindblad expedition in Alaska vs other mid sized more luxury ships. I want to really see and experience Alaska but would like a nice ship, experience as well. Tell me why I should choose Lindblad?
  20. I’m more interested in seeing the place than the boat …. Can you “see” Alaska - glaciers, wildlife, etc. from the boat or are you dependent on excursions ? I have some mobility limitations and am afraid excursions could be difficult. Weighing the cost of the small boats over the larger and what I could see from the ship. Also, how is Celebrity for teens in the Summer months?

  22. Can you see Alaska sights from the Regent boats - glaciers, wildlife, etc - or do you have to take excursions to really “ see “ Alaska? Also, we will be traveling with our 15 year old daughter. If cruising in the Summer are there activities and/or other kids?
  23. Thank you Wolfie11! Is there a specific boat you’d recommend?
  24. We are a family of 3 - myself, husband and our 15 year old daughter planning our first Alaskan cruise. I had major foot reconstruction surgery in January and want to plan a trip for the end of July. I want a trip to motivate me to work hard in Physical Therapy and give me a date/goal to work towards. I should be walking by the end of July but expect I will not have much physical strength or stamina for active excursions. Therefore we'd like a boat that can get in close to sights and not require strenuous excursions to see be able to see sights such as glaciers, wildlife, etc from the boat. Here are some thoughts .... 1) This is a "once in a lifetime trip" - so we want to cover all the main sites on the trip. What are the "must see" places/things? What will we regret missing? My husband would love to see ice calving and the northern lights (can you see that from an Alaska cruise?). I'll be thrilled to see glaciers and wildlife and don't need anything sporty/active to feel complete and our daughter doesn't have expectations so she's easiest. 2) We want to see as much as possible from the boat. Does this mean we should focus only on smaller ships or are there mid-larger boats we should consider? 3) Our daughter (15) will be with us so we want to keep that in mind. Are there mid-smaller ships that might have other teens on board. She doesn’t need huge activity - water slides, arcades, etc. but would like to have some opportunity for interactment and making friends if possible. 4) I saw some one way cruises - do those give the opportunity to see more ? 5) Should we consider adding on a land excursion into Denali, etc. I am just beginning my research so I am very green to everything Alaska. We've been on 2 Disney and 1 Princess Carribean cruises so we are familiar with cruising in general. I've read through the past few months of post on Cruise Critic but given our specific circumstances would like to hear any advice anyone can offer! I appreciate any and all help planning.
