I couldn’t tell you that apart from reading the worldie blogs from previous years that it was quite diverse, so not all US.

I will also add that reading last year’s worldie blogs, there was a very different reaction to duty of care shown to passengers with regard to the curtailment of the cruises. I would say that P&O comported themselves very well and looked after their passengers very well. Cunard designated themselves as a cargo vessel and removed all but basic amenities to passengers, which I think was appalling. Oceania helped everyone get home from South America. Viking win though as they popped almost all their passengers in first class to get them home and the 8 passengers that were unable to fly home due to flight restrictions were moved to top suites and had to talk the cruise line into NOT opening all venues for them with full service for the last two weeks while they cruised to a port in Europe where the passengers could disembark.

I’d have to say that for me reading how Cunard treated their passengers would have a bearing on whether I would book a world cruise with them.

We were on Arcadia and it is true that P and O were exceptional in the way they handled the emerging chaos in the world.

All facilities remained available, social distancing was introduced, activities continued as per normal and the cruise finished on the due date. The thirty odd sea days without land felt a bit weird but we were kept up to date all the time.

It helped that beer was reduced to half price to help sell it and everyone on board appeared to enjoy the fact that we were in a safe place whilst there was uncertainty everywhere.

The company did great for all of us on board

Anyone have the above account and use it for travel insurance was just wondered if it is OK as thinking of opening account. £13 a month for worldwide travel insurance is excellent value for money and wondered if anyone has paid extra for the optional cruise upgrade and what extra they charge for medical conditions that anyone has.

We opened the account before our World Cruise last year. It is excellent value, paid a little extra for 100 days cover, £30k cancellation cover for the full cost of the cruise and a couple of declared minor medical issues. Just  before we left paid for missed ports cover. Think from memory the extras cost about £400.

You also get included with the account mobile phone insurance and car and caravan recovery insurance Europe wide.

On our return home the insurer paid up for the ports we missed, they only required a note from P and O Confirming that the stops were not made. As we missed all of the ports after Australia and a couple prior to that it was a tidy sum.

Considering at the 'Hilton at The Ageas Bowl' for a Friday night pre cruise next June.  We need parking and prefer a quiet location, so as we can book this with loyalty points it looks fine.

The one thing that bothers us a tad is if we may get stuck in traffic trying to get the port on the Saturday when Iona is in port along with MSC Magnifica, Regal Princess and Celebrity Silhouette (according to cruise timetables.com).  We do not normally sail in the summer, but have been caught in traffic going to the port previously, so can anyone give me any advice regards ease of getting there from that hotel.  We know the route either on the toll bridge or the one further up, but not done it high season.

We have stayed in the Holiday Inn, Winchester previously, which is also a good hotel and wondering if it would be better sticking to the motorway route in to the port from that hotel.

    Hi

We always stay here the night before (unless it is a cruise of more than 2 weeks or so) and book a club room with a view of the pitch. Restaurant is good, rooms very good and the club lounge is quiet with wine and nibbles in the evening as part of package. The staff advise you to put your car in a quiet part of the car park and will order you a private taxi the next day at a time of your choosing.

Great choice to start the holiday

The lounge is available until you leave, even after you have checked out of your room

I appreciate things are upside down at the moment but wonder if anyone has any advice regarding 2022 World Cruise Insurance which will cover the cost of cruise cancellation of £28,000. Cover not required for covid 19.

    Thanks

    Hi

We covered for £30k cancellation costs for this years Arcadia cruise. The cover was an additional fee with the insurers. We also took out cover for missed ports and cover for 100 days away. We also had a additional fee for pre existing medical conditions.  The basic World wide Insurance was from our Nationwide Flex plus bank account which costs £13 per month. It also includes car and caravan recovery throughout Europe and mobile phone insurance. Our total outlay for insurance was £500 Plus the £13 per month fee for the account. Total cost £656. We claimed the missed ports and received £300 for each one we missed on the cruise. The insurance is easy to arrange, good value in our opinion and excellent customer service. Our age is under 70 which I believe reduces the excess somewhat.
