Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. I find it troubling that none of the.2022 and newer inventory, and ordered new ships, are HAL. Other than the 3 Pinnacle class ships, HAL's inventory is an average of about 20 years old. That' doesn't seem like a sustainable path forward. How do you buy new half $Billion+ ships? You have to raise a ton of money and one way is via high fares.
  2. You may find Club Orange might actually be "near free". If you can talk them into temp downgrading you to an obstructed balcony, buy CO, then upgrade to the cabin you want. We did that our last cruise and actually saved $60 from the cabin fare we originally booked...and essentially got CO for free.
  3. I found another member's post from 2022 stating there is one USB port at the desk. This photo was in their post...and is from ocean-view cabin 1041. You can also see the shelf where the small TV used to be located, with the extra 110V outlet just above the shelf.
  4. From an old post of mine... There is one USB socket below each bedside reading light. If you need a 110V outlet (or European 220V), they are only located at the desk, both at the desk and on a small corner shelf above the desk where the TV used to be located. There's also a 110V outlet near the ceiling in the bathroom but that's a low power one intended for shavers only. So basically, you have two 110V and one 220V outlet in the desk area, 1 USB outlet under each bedside reading light, and one low wattage 110V outlet near the ceiling of the bathroom. I don't remember if that is a 2 prong or 3 prong outlet. I also don't remember if there are any USB outlets at the desk. To maximize your plug-in capability, you can bring a non-surge-protected power strip. They prohibit, and will confiscate, power strips with surge protection. You can also bring an adapter that fits in the 220V outlet, assuming something you bring is compatible with 220V (a lot of electronics chargers can take either 110V or 220V--the fine print on the charger body should state acceptable voltage).
  5. Happy to help. One other difference from the bunk photo posted above by Henk123 is they moved the tv from being the small--probably 24"--tv you see on the shelf in the corner (shelf is still there for storage). The TV is now hard mounted on the wall directly across from the main bed and is probably around a 37-40" screen. In case you are wondering, you can see the screen fine from the sofa even though the tv mount does not swivel. Also, our teen son used the sofabed last year. He complained it was too firm so our cabin steward added some padding. I tried it one night...seemed OK with the added padding.
  6. A number of other commenters have posted that HAL's internet speed doesn't change between internet package tiers. Rather, the amount of content blocked just decreases as you go up in package tiers. If that's all correct, then the Surf package may block WI-FI calling.
  7. About the only HAL beds that "pull from the side wall" are the murphy bed in the Pinnacle Class ship Signature Suite cabins. Definitely none in Eurodam oceanview cabins--just the pullman bed that your cabin steward can lower from the ceiling in quad occupancy cabins (annotated by a little square box near cabin numbers on the deck plans). One other different configuration with select far forward and aft Eurodam oceanview cabins--such as 1005--is they only have a shower stall with cloth curtain rather than the larger tub/shower configuration (also with cloth curtain) in the majority of the other cabins. Cabins with just a shower instead of tub/shower are annotated with an asterisk on the deck plans.
  8. Good to hear you aren't late owls because HAL pretty much rolls up the sidewalks by about 11:00-11:30PM.
  9. Most of the Lido Pool loungers are often taken much of the day but you can usually find loungers at the rear pool, the Sea View pool. If those areas are busy and you're looking to catch sun, the top deck directly above the Crow's Nest is kind of a hidden gem that few people use and nearly always has lots of seats available. Its main drawback is it can get quite windy depending on your lounger location--take some clips to hold your towel in place. There's no bar service up there but you can just pop down one floor to the Crow's Nest to get drinks at the Explorations Cafe coffee shop (also pretty much is a full bar too). Rest rooms are located there too. If you are looking for quiet shady areas, then the Promenade, as recommended by Ineke, is a great place to relax and enjoy the views and ocean sounds. Lots of classic-style wood loungers are available there as well as pads to put on the loungers.
  10. Last time we sailed on Carnival--back in 2018--they also kept ship time on EST the full cruise. Lots of warnings and notices posted about abiding by ship time, not local time, when in ports.
  11. A big factor on how much laundry you need to do over a 9 day cruise is whether or not a person uses the fitness facilities often (or not). If yes, daily, or at least every other day, laundry is great and saves a lot of sink-wash time that you might otherwise be doing something else. It's also nice to go home with nearly all clean clothes rather than getting home with a load of soiled clothing.
  12. Oops, I see they are missing the Hoegaarten bottle. Probably because we drained their stock last time onboard...
  13. IF CCL were to add a new ship to the HAL fleet, it seems logical that it would be a variant of Cunard's new Queen Anne ship. If Wikipedia is to be trusted, the MS Queen Anne is a "Pinnacle Series 4" ship, a modest growth version of HAL's three Pinnacle class ships. It comes in at 1,058 ft long vs HAL's 983 ft, is 2 ft wider, and is 113,000 tons vs HAL's ~100,000 tons. Stated engines and azipod units are the same for both versions. That relatively modest size growth probably would still fit HAL well, as compared to the much larger ships Princess is buying (and still only about half the enormous capacity of Royal's new mega-ships).
  14. Smart move on buying Club Orange for the cabin upgrade. I'm guessing the combined cabin/Club Orange price came in lower than the VA cabin price, after including the Club Orange cost. Assuming you got one of the 4 VA accessible cabins I see on the Koningsdam Deck 8 floorplan, your cabin should be pretty spacious--the size of a Signature Suite just without the suite amenities or floor layout. The one drawback to those cabins is they are below the Lido buffet so you might hear dinnerware carts rumbling above you at odd hours.
