That list came from the scrapyard.  One of the ships in the second round has already been beached and joined the four from the first round.  The other three are in cold layup and we are all waiting to see what happens.  Two of those ships have turned off their transponders.

Yeah The Carnival Fascination Im surprised she was in Cadiz not Eleusis with the other two and still had her transponder turned on. Now Fascination is at Cadiz Anchorage..!

Does it really cost that much to go into drydock? I would assume not every drydock is the same $$!

One thing that puzzles me since the Marella Celebration and Horizon are sold for scrap and waiting it out in cold lay up at Eleusis til theirs room, why would The Fascination sit at Cadiz for 2 months instead of going to Eleusis too? Im sure Cadiz wasnt cheap to dock at. Im assuming its quite inexpensive to lay a ship up at anchor at Eleusis.

All of the recent drydockd are touted by Carnival as "multimillion dollar" even if there aren't significant hotel refurbishments. I'm assuming thr drydock would run about $10 Million to do the hull, propellor, and engine work, and even just minimal hotel maintenace (like replace carpet, tile, etc.).

Based on the Holland America sale to Fred Olsen, each of the ships were about $14 Million.  The ships sold for scrap were about $7 Million, so around $10 Million would be a safe estimate.

$10 Million of expense avoided and $10 Million of sale proceeds would be $20 Million.  Even just to keep the ship running for another 2 months to get to the drydock would be around another $2 Million - and that's assuming it can happen in November.

Would be interesting to know how much Fred Olsen sold the Black Watch and Bouddica for I would assume above their scrap values..but who knows.

The primary reason Fascination got the boot was that she needed a routine drydock this year. Presuming Carnival got more than the roughly $7 Million scrap value her sisters got, that's likely a $20-$25 Million net pickup from avoiding the dry dock and selling the ship. The new owner can then make the necessary hotel refurbishments when the engine, hull, and propellor are serviced.

Both of those ships are listed for the second round in Turkey.

where do the lists for the 2nd round come from? And are they carved in stone , have they been sold to scrapyard already and are just hangin out wherever.Pretty sure No one will scrap ships anywhere but Aliaga as they are the only ones who meet the requirements now days.

not sure how accurate that list is for October? Is their any formal confirmation that Fascination or Horizon have been Sold for scrap? From anything Ive seen shows Horizon in cold lay up at Eleusis which if she was sold why would she not have gone right to Aliaga before now? Same with Fascination ?

    Curious as well-

who would buy that piece of junk?

Im pretty sure she's in comparable condition to the other 4 fantasty class ships(outside appearance means nothing paint will fix)...as she had pretty much the same upgrades as the other exisitng ones. Not sure if their were other reasons Carnival choose the other 4 vs her. Its too bad she wouldnt fit into Palm Beach she would be a good addition to Bahamas Paradise to replace the Grand Celebration.

I agree with AIDAcara, at 38,557T, it's future may not fit in the reduced passenger model. And AIDAmira is not on AIDA website any more.

Smaller and older ships are prime suspects to be retired early. HAL has Volendam and Zaandam, Seaborne could have one or two ships cut due to demand. Other than that I don't see any more removals as most of other ships are built after 2000. If there is any more it could have been P&Os Aurora.

Carnival announced today Sea Princess and Sun Princess have been sold. The Sun Princess is rumored to be going to Peace Boat, and I would think Sea Princess would be sold for further trading as she has balconies and not that old.

Definitely not the Carnival Horizon and the other one has already been rumorsed as being sold as scrap by Royal

Pillmantur Horizon  to my knowledge is in Eleusis Bay Greece along with Marella Celebration. While Carnival Fascination is currently in Cadiz. All 3 are expected to go to Aliaga soon.

If the Sun Princess is being sent to Peaceboat, that probably means the end of the road for the Tropicale, which was renamed Ocean Dream.

Kind of strange to think we could lose the Tropicale, Holiday, Celebration, Fantasy, Fascination, Imagination, and Inspiration all within the span of a few months.

From an articele i read  the Horizon,Carnival Imagination,Marella Celebration and Carnival Fascination are the next 4 to be scrapped starting in October after the current 4 in scrapping process now at Aliaga.

Dawn maybe as it's old but hopefully Aria still has some life with her - I just checked vessel finders and looks like Aria is heading towards Cyprus. Not some good signs tho.

Ps - late edit but I just realised Sky Princess is also in Cyprus. Not sure what she's doing in there but it might not be a bad sign if Aria went that way.

    Michael

Theirs like 5-6 ships at Limassol anchorage right now most part of P&O group think its just maybe a better place to lay up ships ??

And how soon before the Fascination is confirmed?

The Fascination has stayed put since she got to Cadiz and hasnt moved. Im surprised she was even considered for retirement as like her remaining sisters she has balconies I'd think that would make her more attractive to keep!  The other 3 Imagination,Inspiration and Fantasy had none!

Not a surprise, but I still hate to hear it.  Wonder how long before Fascination follows?

    Garnett

Well a good thing is Fascination hasnt moved since it got to Cadiz. But Imagination has been sailing to Freeport then Curaco. I did see the Fascination on a ship broker site so maybe they plan to sell her to make up for the losses their takin for sending ships to scrap
