  1. Turns out Celebrity had no problems with the bicycle. Seems like the port employees have never seen a bicycle in their lives though.

The ship's security officer came out to the security area and basically warned me that he would throw me and the bicycle overboard if I used it on the ship and then welcomed me aboard. Wheeled it through the metal detector without ever going through the X-ray scanner.

For sure. I did this on Summit for a 10 night Canada/New England cruise. I had bid the absolutely max for all categories of verandas, including Aqua. Lost every bid. Got on the ship, front tipped someone in guest services to help me track down an aqua for upgrade around 5 pm, after sail away, after they figure out the no shows. I paid $625 each to go from inside to aqua. The move up bids were way more.

Did the $625 come out from your OBC or does it get charged to a credit card?

There are a few email addresses, the Captains Club one often responds fastest in our experience even, as in this case, it isn’t a Captain’s Club issue.

I sent an email to CelebrityEngagementCenter@celebrity.com a week ago but still no response.

A travel agent can take care of this rather quickly. They have dedicated representatives and dedicated phone reps to call.

I asked my travel agency and the agent claims a Celebrity representative said bicycles are not allowed.

I wonder if they may be conflating using a bicycle onboard and bringing a bicycle onboard. Celebrity's conduct policy reads in part:

"Roller blades, roller skates, skateboards, surfboards, bicycles, and similar items may not be utilized onboard. Scooters are not permitted onboard except when used as a mobility aid."

It says bicycles cannot be utilized onboard but does not prohibit it onboard like scooters.

What could happen if I brought my bicycle to the embarkation terminal? Could they not allow it onto the ship at all? Could I leave it at the terminal to be picked up after the cruise?

  4. Thank you all for the advice!

Suggest you email Celebrity and take a copy with written agreement with you on boarding. Definitely not something I would risk taking a verbal response from a Celebrity agent for as most of them probably don’t know the answer and you definitely don’t want an argument at the port!

I had emailed cec@celebrity.com 3 weeks ago asking about bringing a bicycle onboard but have still not received any response. Is this the right email address for this type of question?

They stored the bike with the crew bikes in the bowels of the ship somewhere.  I was given the card of someone in security to ring anytime i wanted them to bring the bike to the gangway for me.

Did they offer to store your bike to save space in your room, or did they not want it inside your room? I would actually prefer to let them hold onto it since I will be in a lowly inside stateroom!

I have one on my latest booking that I have not seen "10OFFS".  The only thing I can come up with is that it might be for a special that was offered through the travel agency I book with.  Their flyer mentioned "Specialty dining for two, wine trio, bottled water and chocolate truffles on selected sailings".

@WillCruiseForMoneyI noticed this 10OFFS code on certain online TAs for Free at Sea sailings too. The TA site indicates the discount includes open bar, specialty dining, shore excursions, and WiFi, but the quotation does not add any gratuities for the open bar or specialty dining. Does your booking show gratuities for the specialty dining?

  6. If prices drop after the final payment date, NCL usually allows upgrading by paying the difference between the booked rate and the current rate. Does the Caesars Total Rewards discount also apply to the current rate of the upgraded stateroom? Or is the discount lost when upgrading after the final payment date?

  7. The American Express Cruise Privileges Program offers $100 OBC for inside and outside staterooms, $200 OBC for balcony and mini-suite staterooms, and $300 OBC for suites on NCL.

If the stateroom is upgraded, is the OBC amount based on the originally booked stateroom or the upgraded stateroom?

P.S. Can the OBC from the Amex CPP and the shareholder benefit be combined?

If you call they should be able to do this. Should is the operative word. I had a $100 deposit that was refundable and I asked them to just roll over to a FCC. They assured me that it would be taken care of and 14 days later it appeared as a credit on my Amex statement.

This is what I am worried about. They may promise to refund to an FCC but the system may automatically refund to the original payment method. Then the American Express system would  probably claw back the $400 credit from last year.

The new booking costs less than the existing booking, so I would have funds leftover going the transfer route that you suggested.

Beside the $100 refund to your Amex, were you successful getting other refundable deposits refunded to an FCC?

  9. Booked a 5-day cruise last year sailing within 56 days. Holland America's standard refund policy should allow 50% of the gross fare to be refunded to the original payment method (credit card). The COVID-19 flexible cancellation policy should allow the remaining 50% non-refundable fare to be refunded as Future Cruise Credit.

Does Holland America allow 100% of the fare to be refunded as Future Cruise Credit if requested, instead of 50% to credit card and 50% to FCC? I had used the $400 off $1500 American Express offer, who are known to claw back offer credits if a purchase is returned.

Not all of the insides, just those on Main Deck, J & K cabins.  There are K cabins on other decks that are standard small, and some I cabins that are larger, but different configuration from Main deck, so would not work as well.

Thank you for all the photographs! Looks like they do have quite a bit more empty floor space compared to "regular" insides or verandahs.

Did you hear any noise (from the engine or waves for example) being on the lowest deck?

I very much doubt they would allow you to store anything on the verandah.  Just ask Holland America so you have no surprises and you can end the speculation and worry.  Either give them a call or see what HAL_Ship_Services@hollandamerica.com has to say.  No one can advise you but them.

Thank you for the email address! Will see what they say.
