  1. Tie up money? Really?? It's $250 per booking. Chump change. If I invested it at current rates it would net me seven bucks a year. That's just plain noise, and extremely cheap insurance for protection against fare increases, room unavailability or that dreaded shift to "guaranteed" where they will stick my steerage room actually down in steerage proper. Besides, some of us derive great pleasure from the hobby of booking early and often. It's not like I don't have the time. 😎 But, do whatever works for you. I was just answering your "WHY?" YMMV.
  2. I'm not sure that would make any difference for anybody. I like that they charge it separately as a discretionary charge, because it creates the idea (illusion?) that we've already paid "tips" and that any additional tips are just for over and above service for an entertainer/waiter/bartender/etc. who has made our cruise extra enjoyable. Those emerge on every cruise and we enjoy handing them some extra cash, especially the musicians who tend to become the highlight of every cruise, regardless of where the ship sails/stops.
  3. This!! I couldn't agree more about Alexa. I would specifically book a cruise if I knew she would be playing in the obs lounge. That's why B2Bs were created!!
  4. Well, the simple answer is that "deposits are cheap and refundable, prices often go up and rooms often book up." My counter question is "why not??"
  5. If you are asking about getting a lower price on Black Friday, the answer is very likely "no."
  6. I believe that all first time cruisers are not bronze until after their first cruise. I may be mistaken.
  7. I agree with everything my friend @cruiseny4lifesaid except for this. When I'm on a cruise, the "best Wi-Fi possible" is no Wi-Fi. (disclaimer: yes I do use some of those free 150 minutes to occasionally check for text messages from home, but that's about it)
  8. Outstanding!! 😎 We have 34 days of AK cruising booked in 2023, and I wouldn't mind spending most of them just like this.
  9. Baa humbug. At the end of the day, cruisers waste towels and room stewards' time. Should I leave the cruise early to put an end to this awful waste? 😎 Bingo!! 😎 We all are. Some just can't come to grips with it. More the pitty....
  10. Some folks can have both. I wouldn't trade my kids and grandkids for all the Haven sailings in the world.😎
  11. Yeah, I noticed the same on the Joy last month. The pizza in the buffet was a lot better than it used to be.
  12. I'm guessing that is because you are from Delaware. I'm the opposite. Where I live, there is way too much sunshine and we can swim 12 months of the year. I absolutely love a cruise with some weather. 😎
  13. It's the logistics brother. I have that nice reusable tray with three leftover strawberries. I can't throw it in the trash. We're not supposed to leave it in the hallway. And, I don't know which cabins nearby want the danged things. So they just sit there for days looking more and more tired. I guess I should take some post-it notes next time and leave a note on the thing asking for the Steward to remove it.
  14. Actually, it's $1.20 for a shot of Bailey's. Nobody without the drink package drinks any meaningful amount of Bailey's at $16 a shot. It's just marketing.
  15. The number of free meals depends on the cabin booked and the length of the cruise. The shore excursion credit applies to the first person on the reservation for every shorex they attend.
  16. Vodka? I think I'll ask for a double Goose Booty. 🤣 I'll let y'all know.....
  17. Same here. There is a photo passenger "a" enjoying his drink package (without hurting anybody) and passenger "b" glaring at him as judge and jury. Which person is being stupid and inappropriate?
  18. Did what? Think what? Absolutely. Everybody can have tremendous fun on a cruise. Hopefully you're in the fun club with the rest of us over here on the sunny side of the street.😎 That said, we have ample evidence right here on CC of folks who seem to spend half their cruises just looking for stuff to B%&ch about.
