  1. Thanks for this, but I'm not here to judge others on something so trivial. Question was asked, question was answered. I do it successfully every cruise l go on, regardless of the cruise line. They still get my money, and I promise no tv's were harmed in the process. On the older tv's use the standard ports and find the source switcher underneath the tv bezel. You will have to disconnect the LAN connector (looks like an oversize phone jack). On newer ones, use the ports on the black box. The new black boxes have addnl. ports and are recognized by the apps when you plug a device in. Then you switch source inside the Carnival menu (or other cruise line (this will allow your volume control to work properly).
  2. Use Amazon fire stick with no issues. I have a post on here with my setup. If you search you should find it. Ports aren't typically blocked either. You just have to know which ones to use and how.
  3. True... but my local restaurant in town hands me a menu, and takes/delivers my drink order before taking my order by hand.. all for a $9 breakfast. Carnival has a pretty low bar 🙂 I won't argue that they are a budget line and they're trying to feed 6000 passengers in just a few hours and I've viewed the menu on my phone and checked in as well. Its just not my style if I can help it. To each their own.
  4. @Sea Raven You are correct. It is customary to get all the courses in order and entirety. I just get annoyed when they're trying to do that, AND get my first drink in. I prefer they get my drink order (grasshopper! or glass of wine) and then come back for the order after. It feels so rushed and I understand they want to turn tables over, but that is really their problem not mine. I refuse to accept a lower class of service for the sake of 'progress'. I can take my money elsewhere 🙂
  5. The relevant cost of cruises in 1986 vs 2024, while interesting, isn't an excuse to dumb down proper service. If that's your vibe, then so be it.
  6. Agreed. I'm a Gen X'r and while I could easily pick up my phone and push buttons, I'm not accepting of this very lazy practice by Carnival. Treat me like a guest with some class. Take me when I show up and find me a table, hand my wife and I a menu in our hands properly, and don't try to take my whole food order before you've offered and delivered drinks. I'm not at Denny's....
  7. Just returned from the Sunrise on a 5 day out of Miami (yes I know better). 1 fight, multiple young ladies yelling at boyfriends in the hallway, 2 cabins searched for marijuana, roving bands of cursing disruptive and disrespectful kids, 1 group of 6 (age 20-30) taken down the elevator with all their belongings and a Belgian Malinois on board searching for a young man that assaulted a security officer. Low prices are one reason, the other imho is the ability to now 'finance' your cruise with Affirm and programs like this. It has attracted a clientele that is violent, lacks basic manners, and only knows/glorifies thug/hood culture. This will be our last Caribbean cruise out of any American port except for those cruise lines that are in a higher price bracket. I'm not sure I even trust 7 day cruises to Caribbean ports.
  8. Don't bring it on your cruise. There, fixed it for you.
  9. Against my better judgement, wife and I grabbed a 5 day out of Miami in a super cheap grand suite. Day 2 saw CBP with a drug dog emptying a cabin a few doors down from us. The night before we could barely sleep from the stench. Day 4 and there are 6 security folks on each end of deck 7 even, with a Belgian Malinois looking for a young man who fought with his girlfriend, then knocked a security person down who came to investigate and then ran into a cabin. Another 5 were being escorted with luggage in hand down to the elevators with security. This will likely be our last Carnival out of any US port doing the carribean. They are attracting a demographic I do not care to vacation with.
  10. In a Grand Suite onboard the Carnival Sunrise docked in Nassau at the moment and figured I'd write a quick note on the WIFI setup and how its working. My equipment: GL.Inet Slate Ax travel router GL.Inet Mango mini router Amazon Firestick Express VPN software Portable Battery (For Mango) Youtube Tv subscription. Plex running from home NAS 1 TB usb drive (plugs into Slate) Purchased 1 high speed streaming plan currently getting about 25 mbps docked. Was averaging the same while crossing from Miami yesterday. Setup the Slate AX with random mac and expressVpn out of Miami. No issues running Youtube Tv and streaming from my home Plex server was good. Watched "South Pacific" in 1080p while we crossed. Sitting here now streaming Pre kickoff shows. Out on deck I've had the mango in my pocket connected to the portable battery and the wife and I have no issues streaming in airplane mode (yes, cellular data works as well). So far no issues at all and that has typically been my experience in the Caribbean. Will report again from Grand Turk. As far as the cruise itself.. its a 5 day on Carnival out of Miami. Usually against my rules but it is a cruise and was an absolute bargain. However the food is Golden Corral level and the demographics are well.... exactly what you expect for $200 inside cabins.
  11. Check out gl-inet.com I carry the slate and the mango. You give far too much credit to on ship IT. They're not much better than geek squad.
  12. Just get a travel router. No need to do a bluetooth tether. You can even get a small one powered by a portable battery to take with you to the pool deck and share wifi to all your devices.
  13. The agent on the phone said it was because I was trying to fly into Rome and the cruise is out of Venice. They could only book me on flights to Venice.
  14. Thank you. I've reached out by phone.
  15. Hello ! Trying to get flights out of MIA or FLL to Rome for a May 26, 2025 cruise using Celebrity air. We would like to show up a week early and show up on the 19th however when I try to look at flights thru Celebrity, it shows as 'no flights found' unless I choose a much earlier date (24th). Has anyone else experienced this or is this just an issue with Celebrity having a limit on how many days in advance you can book? Unable to find that info. Posted in Cruise Air and didn't get much traction. Thanks for any and all responses.
  16. Have a cruise set to sail May 26, 2025 and trying to look at air prices flying in on the 19th or 20th. All i get back is 'no flights found' unless I choose the day before the cruise sails. Anyone else experience this? -k
  17. I already confirmed it on the Reflection.
  18. Just off the reflection 2 weeks ago and our chairs had zip ties. Didn't feel the need to take a picture of it.
  19. @Zoedokey We knew going in there would be kids and more party than usual. Granted when you go the kids will be in school, but 3 days' always have a livelier crowd & kids. That being said, it was quiet on my balcony and there are places to get away from the crowd.
  20. @DaKahuna No, but no one is trying to stream thru it. Save that for the slate. For sitting around the pool checking facebook or news, the Mango works great
  21. @candersonI have both the GLI.Net Slate and Mango. I just got off the Reflection. The Mango is great if you want to buy 1 wifi package and bring it with you to share wifi love for your whole party anywhere on the boat. You can power it with a pocket battery and create a mobile hotspot.
  22. Just back from Caribbean. No issues with travel router, Amazon fire stick and Express VPN. Fire Stick connects directly to the travel router (no 'hot spot' needed). Streamed Olympics and connected to home Plex. Was able to plug into hdmi 3 and use the source button on the TV.
  23. Just off the Reflection this w/e. I prefer smaller ships and balconies. The Reflection is/has both. Food was great, staff was friendly. You can't go wrong. I like Carnival as well, but sometimes I want to get away from the Vegas vibe.
  24. I concur with my fellow IT pro's that if a site is using HTTPS, then a VPN is not required for security. The VPN is primarily used to get around geofencing issues, such as trying to stream your tv provider from outside the US (watch Caps hockey in Aruba in my case). In addition, some banks will allow you to stop transactions from certain countries, which can block you if you are visiting a country that you have blacklisted. VPN helps resolve that without having to change your security policies or call your financial institutions.
