  1. Was also on the cruise with BRWolf. Sorry to have missed Heimaey but after such an active cruise schedule, it really was nice to relax most of the day. We did both Vigur and Skalanes and they are somewhat repetitive. All the lupines on the way out to Skalanes (and there also) were really nice but we did four days of driving the south coast before the cruise and saw an incredible number of fields of lupines. The arctic tern area was larger (and therefore more exicting) at Vigur and there more puffins that could easily be seen. The presentation at Vigur was very comprehensive. If you can only do one, I would recommend Vigur. Of course at Skalanes you will hear a little bit about the research there and the bird observation area is nice with the cliffs. I would definitely make sure to sign up for at least one of these excursions. Almost anything you may do in Iceland will be incredible.
  2. I know for most stops, Viking usually provides a shuttle from the port into town. Can someone let me know if there is one from Skarfabakki into the center of Reykjavik, and if so, what kind of schedule do you recall and where does it drop you off? Thanks so much.
  3. If you are a member of Emergency Assistance Plus (emergency medical transportation services) you also can get access to TripInsure Plus. Rates beat anything else we have ever had and the emergency services is something that may be needed as we get up there in years.
  4. Wine-wine-wine I also am able to tolerate the breads etc better in Europe. The last time I traveled my doctor pointed that out. Will certainly look for 00 Flour CDN as sometimes the almond flour just doesn't do the job. Thanks to everyone for this topic. It has been very helpful.
  5. CDN Polar did tellus ask you to inform them or the ship directly about specific products?
  6. Great to know about this station and the noodles. Thanks AroundwithMAP Travels. This expands the options for me and the food looks great.
  7. I also don't eat gluten if I can help it (just sensitive not Celiac's). Wondering what you mean by advance notice on the noodles AroundWithMAP Travels? Do you have to call ahead of time (or notify them at lunch what you will need for dinner) or do you just have be prepared to wait a few minutes for the order at your table?
  8. Wondering how a preregistered credit card is used when purchasing excursions. When you request an excursion and you go to your cart to pay, will all of the payment fields be filled in for you if your card is already entered into the system? I know some excursions are so popular that you must sign up and pay immediately or you will lose the space. If preregistration helps one be faster, I'm willing to use a CC that gives me no points on the purchases but at least Viking accepts. (Wish they would go ahead and find a way to allow MC to be preregistered.).
  9. Realize during times that the laundry facilities are busy, people generally don't immediately take out someone's laundry when the machine stops, but may do so it is sitting there for more than a few minutes. The machines show how much time they will take so it is easy to make sure you are back in time to retrieve it.
  10. What companies can you recommend for the RIB tours at Heimaey? I like the company you reserved with will refund if the ship can't dock due to weather. Heard that happens frequency.
  11. Since Blue has offices at the airport and in Reykjavik it is possible to do that with them. That is exactly what we are doing.
  12. Just starting to consider which excursions we would like to go on. Out of the port of Djúpivogur we are looking at the Rural East Iceland (we will have already visited the Ice Lagoon's on our own the week before). It includes an outlet glacier of Vatnajokull and an equestrian center. Anyone have any experience with this excursion? Since many of the excursions are very expensive, want to make sure it is a worthwhile one. Any info would be appreciated as well as suggestions/thoughts on any other excursions out of this port.
