  1. The sushi is good and it does seem to keep getting better each time we go. It's not the BEST sushi you've ever had but it is good. About halfway down this review I cover all the restaurants on our last Equinox cruise this past September and do mention Sushi On 5. Note: it's not a good deal for vegetarians, only a couple of rolls. It's definitely worth doing at least once on the cruise. https://www.whereswalter.tv/post/celebrity-equinox-11-night-southern-caribbean-cruise
  2. They do have other dishes like fried rice, but they are prepared in the kitchen. Nothing is prepared table side.
  3. It's possible they have not released all of them because any cameras from outside the ship would potentially show the child falling. Nobody in the general public needs to see that. Only the judge and a jury if it proceeds to trial. I'm guessing the two cameras from inside are the only ones that saw the incident from inside the ship. The other 11 are probably all outside and possibly including multiple security cameras from the port.
  4. It's pretty easy to lean out the windows, I've leaned out of them to get photos and shoot video with my GoPro multiple times on multiple ships. Again, it's a very sad situation where nobody is going to win, but ultimately, there is no fault to Royal Caribbean. The fault lies entirely with the family.
  5. It's a sad situation where nobody will win. Anyone who has cruised even once on these ships knows it's near impossible to not realize a window is open, especially if you've taken the time to lean out the window. To hold your granddaughter outside a ship for over 30 seconds is reprehensible. To then claim the cruise line is in any way at fault is irresponsible. Again, nobody will win but there is absolutely no reason for Royal to admit any fault nor settle any claim with this family. The incident was wholly the fault of the grandfather. That won't bring back the child or ease the family's pain, but it is, what it is. An entirely avoidable situation.
  6. I'll just point out that Apple did not make the first mobile phone, nor did they make the first smartphone. The only issue I have with mobile phone use on the ships is when people use the sound without ear buds or headphones. I would like to see the cruise lines start to police that as they do on public transportation and planes. Those rules should be coming in the near future.
  7. That is the beauty of living in this time. So many options to choose from. We really want to try out MSC as well and those new ships they announced this week look out of this world.
  8. I'm not sure where people are getting these "Two to five times" the price unless you want to book in the first two months. After that, the prices fall to industry norms. I answered this same question in the "Why are these cruises so expensive" thread. When you add in WiFi, no specialty dining costs, no soft drink costs, no gratuities the price is really similar to all the other mainstream lines. We figure $2500 - $3200 for 7 nights on any mainstream line for a balcony. That's without a drink package, no WiFi, no specialty restaurants, no soft drinks. Just the cabin. Mayan Sol 5 nights on the Scarlet Lady Aug 2 - 7 is $2300 for the Sea Terrace (non obstructed view). WiFi, Soft Drinks, Gratuities, all Meals included. Celebrity Cruises 6 nights on Celebrity Equinox in August is $2200 for a Verandah. With one perk. Say we select the drink package. Then there's WiFi, any Specialty Meals, soft drinks and gratuity. We paid $166 for WiFi on our last Celebrity Equinox cruise in Sept and almost $300 for specialty dining. The price is basically the same as the other cruise lines. The only difference is we'll pay for our drinks ala carte. Still going to work out about the same.
  9. On our last cruise we paid $166 for WiFi, almost $300 for Specialty meals. I'm fine paying per drink since I won't have either of those to pay for or coffee or most soft drinks or gratuities on Virgin.
  10. We are 53 and looking forward to our August sail on the Lady. I found it interesting that the latest TV ads prominently feature "older" folks like us. We enjoy new adventures. This will be our 8th cruise line, sailing all the various ships and lines keeps life interesting and less predictable. As you say the beauty of cruising is that there are so many options to meet all tastes.
  11. Every cruise ship has slow service at the pool when it's busy. Usually they make the worst drinks too because it's quantity over quality at the pool.
  12. As I just noted in another thread below, the Cancellation Policy is very clear on the deposit: DAYS PRIOR TO SAILING DATE & CANCELLATION IMPACT 121 days or more All monies refunded, except for potentially your deposit. Your deposit will be refunded only if cancellation is within 7 days of the date the deposit was made. Otherwise, entire deposit amount is non-refundable. Before you book for ANY cruise, you must read the cancellation policy. Here's the entire Terms and Conditions page from Virgin's site. https://www.virginvoyages.com/addl-terms-and-conditions
  13. The Cancellation Policy is very clear and direct on Virgin's website.: DAYS PRIOR TO SAILING DATE & CANCELLATION IMPACT 121 days or more All monies refunded, except for potentially your deposit. Your deposit will be refunded only if cancellation is within 7 days of the date the deposit was made. Otherwise, entire deposit amount is non-refundable. Prior to booking ANY cruise, the Cancellation Policy should be the first thing any cruiser should look at and understand as it does affect what refunds you would be entitled to, if any. I'm surprised someone with as much experience in cruising missed that. No offense to you, just honestly surprised. The information is on Virgin's Terms and Conditions Page for anyone else who has not reviewed it yet. https://www.virginvoyages.com/addl-terms-and-conditions
  14. Most cruise lines take a non-refundable deposit for any promotion and that's non-refundable from the time of booking. No 7 day window. If you cancel your cruise before the Final Payment, you'll get all your money back, minus the deposit. This notice from Carnival is standard: "If you are canceling your booking prior to your final payment, there is no penalty to cancel unless you have booked a specific promotion with a non-refundable deposit and/or fare".
  15. Virgin has been posting video of the actual Scarlet Lady sailing on Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn for the past month. Most of it was shot during the Sea Trials in November. They've also been posting #BuildUpdate photos on all of those channels as well of the restaurants, cabins and more.
  16. Double price? Not even close. When you add in WiFi, not specialty dining costs, no soft drink costs the price is really similar to all the other mainstream lines. We figure $2500 - $3200 for 7 nights on any mainstream line for a balcony for 2 people. That's without a drink package, no WiFi, no specialty restaurants, no soft drinks. Just the cabin. Mayan Sol 5 nights on the Scarlet Lady Aug 2 - 7 is $2300 for the Sea Terrace (non obstructed view). WiFi, Soft Drinks, All Meals included. Celebrity Cruises 6 nights on Celebrity Equinox in August is $2200 for a Verandah. With one perk. Say we select the drink package. Then there's WiFi, any Specialty Meals. We paid $166 for WiFi on our last Celebrity Equinox cruise in Sept. Specialty Dinners are $35 - $75/pp on Celebrity. The prices on Virgin are right in line with everyone else.

  18. Vloggers Ben and David did a really nice overview of the upcoming Virgin Cruise experience on YouTube. I especially found their comments on the beds encouraging as we will be sleeping on one of those convertible beds in August. They've had a chance to visit the ship and the cabin setups. Ben and David along with Sean and Stef are our two favorite cruise VLOG channels on YouTube.
  19. Because the offer is available for new bookings only. If you have already booked a cruise, this offer doesn't apply so you would not get this. Unless you're on a general marketing email list.
  20. This is an interesting thread because we noticed the same thing on our recent Celebrity cruise. Two Carnival ships that we docked with were noticeably showing a lot of rust. You might see a little rust here and there, but these were showing quite a bit of rust along the hull, the balconies and railings. Even a ship nearing dry dock renovation should not be showing that much rust if the crew is touching up the paint constantly. Usually you'll see some rust down near the waterline where the ships hit up against the bumpers of the dock or where the anchor is. Every ship we've sailed on Princess, Royal, NCL, Celebrity, Disney and Holland were constantly being touched up and painted. They would look nearly new at all times with rust normally showing up above the balconies from time to time. When the ships are in port, those are marketing opportunities for the various cruise lines so they usually want the ships to look their absolute best. We may try the new Mardi Gras or the Vista / Horizon class in the next year, but as a marketing opportunity to sail another class of Carnival ship, the exteriors of these two ships didn't appear to be nearly as well kept as ships from other lines.
  21. Nope. You're paying for the kids since that's their target audience. 🙂
  22. No. We tried to have some new friends join us on our last cruise and were told absolutely nobody can eat in Blu that's not in Aqua Class or above.
  23. You won't see the photos on the phone. You just get the Express Code. Your photo shows up on the ship scanner as you board the ship. The Express Passes worked brilliantly on our recent Equinox Cruise.
  24. We've sailed Silhouette, Reflection and Equinox. Silhouette was our favorite mainly because it was our first Celebrity cruise, the captain was awesome and the entertainment was good. Reflection and Equinox have been progressively less exciting for us though we really enjoyed the glass blowing class on the Equinox. Coffee service really went down on our most recent Equinox cruise as well. The ships are basically identical, service is basically identical. Equinox has the new cabanas on the lawn club which were not enticing at all compared to cabanas we've rented on other ships. Best part of all of these ships is the World Class Bar. Easily the best bar we've ever visited at sea.
  25. Sad to live in such fear. I choose to go by actual facts.
