  1. Vloggers Ben and David did a really nice overview of the upcoming Virgin Cruise experience on YouTube. I especially found their comments on the beds encouraging as we will be sleeping on one of those convertible beds in August. They've had a chance to visit the ship and the cabin setups. Ben and David along with Sean and Stef are our two favorite cruise VLOG channels on YouTube.
  2. Because the offer is available for new bookings only. If you have already booked a cruise, this offer doesn't apply so you would not get this. Unless you're on a general marketing email list.
  3. This is an interesting thread because we noticed the same thing on our recent Celebrity cruise. Two Carnival ships that we docked with were noticeably showing a lot of rust. You might see a little rust here and there, but these were showing quite a bit of rust along the hull, the balconies and railings. Even a ship nearing dry dock renovation should not be showing that much rust if the crew is touching up the paint constantly. Usually you'll see some rust down near the waterline where the ships hit up against the bumpers of the dock or where the anchor is. Every ship we've sailed on Princess, Royal, NCL, Celebrity, Disney and Holland were constantly being touched up and painted. They would look nearly new at all times with rust normally showing up above the balconies from time to time. When the ships are in port, those are marketing opportunities for the various cruise lines so they usually want the ships to look their absolute best. We may try the new Mardi Gras or the Vista / Horizon class in the next year, but as a marketing opportunity to sail another class of Carnival ship, the exteriors of these two ships didn't appear to be nearly as well kept as ships from other lines.
  4. Nope. You're paying for the kids since that's their target audience. 🙂
  5. No. We tried to have some new friends join us on our last cruise and were told absolutely nobody can eat in Blu that's not in Aqua Class or above.
  6. You won't see the photos on the phone. You just get the Express Code. Your photo shows up on the ship scanner as you board the ship. The Express Passes worked brilliantly on our recent Equinox Cruise.
  7. We've sailed Silhouette, Reflection and Equinox. Silhouette was our favorite mainly because it was our first Celebrity cruise, the captain was awesome and the entertainment was good. Reflection and Equinox have been progressively less exciting for us though we really enjoyed the glass blowing class on the Equinox. Coffee service really went down on our most recent Equinox cruise as well. The ships are basically identical, service is basically identical. Equinox has the new cabanas on the lawn club which were not enticing at all compared to cabanas we've rented on other ships. Best part of all of these ships is the World Class Bar. Easily the best bar we've ever visited at sea.
  8. Sad to live in such fear. I choose to go by actual facts.
  9. Maybe they'll go all pirate and fire shots across the bow? First one to back down loses? 🙂
  10. Thanks for the great review! LOVE your writing style and the honesty in the information. I guess I'll have to read up on the bar service, I have not found those reviews yet. But the coffee does sound amazing.
  11. They're not sailing till April but I'm thinking the loss of Cuba has hurt their pre-bookings. We were originally booked on a Cuba 5 night sail, but when that went away, we had the option to cancel or book something else. The itineraries are not that exciting, but we booked the Mayan Sol in August just because we really want to see this ship. They're advertising 50% off deposits for the past few weeks so it may not be that hard to get a good deal on sailings early on.
  12. Thank you so much for posting the pictures. Beautiful cabin and I hope you all had an amazing time!
  13. The Express Pass app was awesome on our sail last month on Equinox. No paper documents at all, just show the boarding pass on the app and get on board.
  14. Royal Caribbean has an awesome indoor pool on many of their ships Freedom Class and higher. I remember the coffee was pretty good, though Cafe Al Bacio was not good on our last Equinox sail, first time that happened. Royal tends to have some really good shows onboard and it's a fun, relaxed ship. The Bamboo Room tiki bar was one of our favorite stops each night, great craft cocktails along the lines of World Class Bar but more cheeky. NCL has the best entertainment, but no indoor pools. In fact they don't even have an adult pool on most ships, just in that Haven area. We were told the Epic is one of the few that has an actual adult pool in the back of the ship. Princess Royal Class ships are quite nice, especially if you go Club Level. You get some really nice dining perks in the main dining room with that level. We had a fresh dinner prepared nightly near our table when we sailed Crown Princess a few months ago. Royal Class ships are much nicer than the Crown. New Carnival Vista and Horizon are a major step up for that line in terms of the ships themselves and dining options. MSC Seaside and Meriviglia both look outstanding and I know from friends who have sailed both the food and especially coffee are top notch.
  15. I didn't mention the beer or soft drink issues because I never heard about them. I rarely drink beer and neither my wife nor I drink soda. With everyone we met on board not a single person mentioned an issue with beer or sodas during the entire 11 nights. That's a very strange issue to have on a ship. Glad the following 10 night cruise was a good one for you.
  16. Yes, Grease is a perfect show for a cruise. We saw Million Dollar Quartet on NCL and it was awesome.
  17. 100% agree. It's good to have the facts correct than throw a blanket statement like "murder capital of the world."
  18. Because school holidays are one week. If you book 10 or more days you're less likely to get the Spring Break holiday crowd and lower amount of kids overall.
  19. I'm not sure about the other bars but at the World Class Bar on Equinox a few weeks ago they were serving Bulleit Bourbon.
  20. I don't know about in advance but I know that once onboard, they'll let you choose only the restaurants you want. Probably best to give Celebrity a call directly to ask this question.
  21. Yep, to select a specific cabin, calling Virgin is the way to go or the online chat feature. We called and selected our Sea Terrace cabin.
  22. Stay out on South Beach at pretty much any of the older Art Deco hotels. If I could afford to live anywhere in the US it would be South Beach. No need for a car because you can walk to so many restaurants, things to do and of course the beach. We're doing the 5 night Mayan Sol in August and have tacked on 3 nights in South Beach before the cruise to make it more like a 7 night normal cruise. We've stayed at Villa Italia and the El Paseo hotels lately. El Paseo is nice because it's on a closed street with about 10 restaurants right outside the door and another 20 or so in short walking distance. The outdoor mall is only about 5 blocks from that hotel as well. Like you, we're only onboard for the ship and Bimini does look like a fun stop. Will be nice to literally be able to spend the entire day into the evening on the island.
  23. So true. We met folks on board who LOVED some of the shows in the theater that we had to walk out on and who LOVED LPC. Every person is different and all I can do is present our honest feedback on the cruise. Enjoy your next sail!
  24. Yeah I don't know how to change the post title or have it deleted. sorry for the mistake.
  25. Whoops, I thought it said St. Croix. St Lucia makes more sense actually!
