Well, well, well. I see Royal will accept anyone as passengers (sniff, sniff). 🤪 Remember pre Covid, when they had standards? Have a great cruise, you guys. Of course, Owen is the hottest guy, look at his parents!

Quick question, I own a Travel Pro scooter with a sealed lead acid battery. The only time I flew with it, American asked me if it was a wet cell or a dry cell. I said it was sealed lead acid and then we stared at each other awkwardly for a few minutes. 😂 They said since I didn't know, I had to carry the 20 pound battery onto the plane. It was awkward with that in one hand and my cane and carryon in the other. I'm flying again soon. Does anybody know? Thanks in advance.

What ship / cruise line?
Most ships now just have you check in at your muster station. And watch a short muster video via their app. No muster drill like the olden days.
Piece of cake.
Agree. I've cruised both Royal Caribbean and Carnival since Covid and muster is whenever you want to do it, before sailing. Just be careful going over the hump between the ship and the deck, you'll probably get stuck and have to walk the scooter over. Same for disembarking, you'll bottom out on the ramp.

Check out John Morris' blog here:
https://wheelchairtravel.org/air-travel/reduce-risk-wheelchair-damage/
He suggests attaching instructions for the handlers.
Thanks! I stumbled upon that website earlier. I'm going to attach a laminated note somehow. He says on there that 3% of chairs/scooters get damaged on the plane.

Okay, thanks.

I hope it's okay, I glommed onto this topic instead of starting my own. I'm flying with my scooter for the first time, American Airlines from Virginia to North Carolina to Boston. I've filled out all the necessary paperwork. I understand I have to gate check the scooter, but do the luggage handlers know how to switch it from Drive to Neutral? I'm terrified they'll destroy it by forcing it to roll in Drive. I realize I can show the handler in VA, but not upon arrival in NC and MA. I've thought about making a laminated sheet or something and taping it to the back of the seat. Help!

We found this out too about Scootaround insurance. We have never taken the insurance as it will pay very little, if anything. Even if the scooter is damaged, there is at least a $250 deductible (and it does not cover damage to baskets, cup holders, battery, accessories, etc).
Exactly! We have to do the $10 cancellation protection, because Covid tests ae done 2 or 3 days before cruising, but, the regular insurance? Nah!

I am confused because you started another thread stating that you WOULD require assistance for your Dad? " Dear Dad is going to have the terminal staff wheel him through security and check in and then ship staff will take over, that's the only time he'll need a chair, for the rest of the trip he can use a walker, I can carry it on myself, but wondering if it can be checked?". Not for nothing and a little unsolicited advice, I have started using a mobility scooter on my cruises and it is the best money I have ever spent. Obviously, I don't know your Dad's limitations, but remember, the ships are three football fields long. Is he really capable of walking that distance with his walker multiple times a day, waiting in lines for elevators, buffets, etc? I've rented twice and am looking to buy now. I used Scootaround and they were fantastic. I originally booked for one week, using the USCRUISE discount code, my rental was $225 for the week. I added a second week before I cruised and that only added $25 to my price! While on the ship, I added a third week and Scootaround only charged me an additional $14. Needless to say, I was thrilled. Anyway, good luck to you and your Dad.

I would assume under those circumstances, you would be allowed to quarantine with him. Perhaps you can search Royal's forum for people whose minor child tested positive and what happened. I'd make sure to file forms with them stating that he requires a caregiver in advance.

I recently got off Carnival Legend in a accessible extended balcony. They had a ramp out to the balcony, it was very steep. I didn't try to take my scooter out there, but, I walked out there a few times and it was very difficult. I actually dropped the door on my bare foot, ouch. I do not know if that is a standard feature or not. What line/ship are you on?

Just read the fine print about the insurance. If the scooter is stolen, you still have a $500 deductible. It didn't seem worth it to me.
-
If you don't require anything from the cruise line, you don't have to fill out any forms. You are allowed to bring a wheelchair with you.

I'm over here in Baltimore slumming it on Carnival Legend. I'm four drinks in on my drink package already. I can't wait to see Dale in Nassau.

I'm sailing Sunday and one woman is still waiting to find out about her daughter. She calls them everyday and it is still in progress.

Thanks everyone. So we just booked the April 3rd Legend that goes to Half Moon Cay. Only 8 weeks to go and not one person posted in a roll call. Hope we are not sailing by ourselves.

I'm on Legend March 27 and agree the unnamed site is where the action is.

The bar is tiny, but there are tables around the bar so you can always sit there.

RE: the door opener, I know Carnival has three different types of accessible cabins, what type is yours?

At least include other non-alcoholic drinks in the soda package.
Coffee, milkshakes, smoothies, non-alky frozen drinks, etc...
Add 3-4 bucks per day...
I know... I would still get Cheers...and hit close to 15 every day anyway... LOL!

I got that package on Royal for $23 a day in November. It includes everything d train said and protein shakes at the spa, bottled water, fresh squeezed OJ, etc.

I just ordered our Binax Now Ag...am I correct that we should have no issues using our smartphones to conduct? Do we need to download any specific app to video chat or is it zoom or something like that? TIA
It's the Navica app, if I remember correctly, it's on the box. I have heard people having trouble listening on their phones while also keeping their test flat on table in full view of the proctor. I used my laptop. Check youtube videos to watch how it is done.

I beg your pardon? I'll have you know, I was cruising practically nonstop in 2021, including a B2B2B on Harmony. I had to, I had so many Covid credits built up on MSC, Royal and Carnival. 😇 Then, in 2022, I found out being on Disability doesn't pay nearly as much as being a drug dealer (legal). 🤑 But, I'm slowly staging a comeback, maybe I'll do a review on Indy for Halloween. 😉
