Depending on her schedule. Stanford also has free shuttle buses from the East Bay over to the campus and medical center. Just a thought. https://transportation.stanford.edu/marguerite/eb And people she works with might have other suggestions, once she arrives. ☺️ Housing here is really expensive.

She is moving from the Gold Coast in Chicago so she is used to high prices but this overly protective, nervous mom is not! I'm flying out with her about a week before she starts work so that will give us time to look around. Thanks.

Menlo Park, Fair Oaks. East Palo Alto has a reputation as unsafe; it may have improved some the last few years. Still not really a nice city in some parts. We've only ever driven through, never stayed over there, so I wouldn't know for sure. Maybe tag Helen, @FromSea2ShiningSea. She lives on that side of the Bay.

Thanks!  I guess the cities you mentioned haven't changed since we lived there 30 years ago. I'll tag Helen but is seems like she is going to pay a lot to be somewhere nice, safe and close.

  3. I have been fortunate to have cruised 4 times and flown a few times within the last year and come home covid free until now. We have been home for 9 days so I don't know if I can blame it on the cruise or the many other things I've done since. It really doesn't matter. I woke up a little congested, decided to test and the second line appeared immediately. No other symptoms.

I think I have been living under a rock.  Reading the comments about Nicole coming soon, I was trying to think of who's kid is having a girl soon.  DUH, the hurricane!  Carry on lol 😱😇

I'm on the same page as you and wondering what I missed except I'm in FL. We are closing our business tomorrow along with school closures.

My daughter has celiac and my SIL has nut allergies, won't eat baked goods he can't guarantee don't have nuts and afraid of cross contamination, so cakes are a hard thing.  I was the taste tester for their cake, daughter did taste most fillings and icing.  Anyway since nether could eat their cake my daughter made a small cheesecake that they cut and nicely fed to each other.

I get skipping a lot of the old rituals, but kinda sad to see.

When we got married 33 years ago I wanted the guests to walk away remembering the food. We had and eight course sit-down dinner with a full dessert table. I did want a cake but not the traditional white cake that was the norm at the time. I chose cheesecake and was told it couldn't be done by a few bakers. I finally found one that made a 3 tier cheesecake that was decorated like a wedding cake.

We just viewed part of an Oasis review on you tube.  The couple drove around and around the Miami RCI parking garage, but all spots were taken.  They finally got a spot up on the roof (When this old world starts getting you down......remember that song?) I think they got to the garage at 11am.  I sure hope we won't have any issues on our Bella cruise in March.  It also seems like a lot to walk, more than I can handle.  I think @singinalot Chrystal parked there recently and I don't think she had trouble getting a spot.  Any past parkers find difficulty finding spots?

We have cruised out of Miami twice this year and had no problem at all. Hopefully we will have good luck next week.

Wow!!  Sorry to hear about your delivery guys and how rude and somewhat destructive they were.😕

I hope your new fridge doesn't give you any problems.  We have a new Frigidaire (which we love), but we did need to have the repair guy come twice to fix the water dispenser..it kind of dribbled after filling a glass.

When we get to Naples, we will be replacing everything, due to Hurricane Ian.  At least we don't leave meat, fish, etc. in the freezer.  I do sometimes leave frozen veggies.  Our good friends asked if we wanted them to throw everything out, and I gratefully thanked them for doing so.  It's basically all of the condiments, etc.  Oh....and the beer.  Stuff like that.  Thank goodness our friends will have some cold beer and beverages in their fridge on the day we arrive.😁

Was your door not under warranty??🤔

Our fridge only had a one year warranty and it broke at 14 months.

It's so nice that your friends cleaned out your fridge. Our daughter didn't have much time before evacuating but she did throw out anything that could spoil and when we went down the weekend after Ian I told her to just get rid of everything and start over. She had no power for over a week.

Our previous refrigerator was a Samsung.  The water from a defrost cycle would drain down behind the interior back panel.  But it would freeze up and then we'd find water under the produce bin.  Our favorite appliance guy installed an update kit that was supposed to fix the problem but it didn't.

The Samsung was otherwise working, but after ten years we decided to replace it.  The appliance guy recommended Whirlpool.  We're on year 3 with the Whirlpool and it works fine.  We bought one that has the regular ice maker but also has an ice maker in the bottom freezer section.  We use a lot of ice...and we love having two ice makers.

We have a Whirlpool and haven't been as lucky as you. Ours stopped dispensing ice about 3 weeks ago and then stopped making ice before the repairman got here. He said it was a design flaw with wiring going from the freezer to the door. Every time the door is opened the wires are pulled and eventually break. Repairing the wires is a temp fix and a new door is the best solution. About $1000. It's 14 months old. I called Whirlpool and they were nice to offer a one time courtesy repair. Our new door will be here in 8-10 weeks. It is shipped directly to us and then we call for an appointment to have it installed.

Thank you, Graham. It was quite some time ago, (3 years) and she was almost 90. Her family is just me, alone. And I don't quite have the memorials that you do for your parents. I think it is lovely how you remember them. ☺️

Mom is in a box in the garage. Along with the boxes of ashes of her 8 cats. Her request was to be distributed with them. Which we will do, when Bobby finally moves on. I sincerely appreciate your condolences. ☺️

My mom wanted to be buried with her cats that had passed before her. We call the funeral director and asked if we could do it and he wouldn't say yes or no, only that we would have time alone with her. We quickly placed 8 urns of ashes beside her along with pictures of her cats and grandchildren.

My husband and I have decided to be cremated so one of will be in a box waiting for the other. Our kids know to mix some ashes of our dogs to ours and spread the ashes at sea.

  10. We woke up to a nice cool temp of 55 this morning. No matter how cold it gets in our house I don't think we have ever turned on the heat. I can't breathe with it so we just add blankets and layers of clothes. Even when visiting our daughter in Chicago and vacationing in the Alps in the winter a window stays open and no heat is turned on, except in the bathroom. Cold toilet seats aren't nice. My grandmother always said that you needed fresh air regardless of the temp.

Holy moly!!!  How did you take care of the babies after your surgery?  One of the members of housekeeping at our hotel said she had gallbladder surgery two weeks after giving birth, and said it seems to be common after having a baby.  I had never heard that before.

Thank you for your good wishes🥰

I was diagnosed with gall stones when I was pregnant and was also told it was common in pregnancy. With no family living near by and being new to the area I had no help during the day for the twins and 5 year old but I did have night nurses so I did get enough sleep to function during the day.

    You and me both.

This all reminds me of the scuba instructor scene from along came Polly. Ruben leaves his wife for a diving lesson and comes back to find him going deep in “Davey Jone’s Locker”😉, and that is a euphemism.😳

My first thought was the yoga instructor in Couples Retreat but Along came Polly is a good one too!

Yes, Jim's was laparoscopically removed also.  How long ago did you have your surgery?  Did it take a long time to heal?

Mine was done almost 28 years ago so I don't remember exactly how long the recovery was but it couldn't have been too long as I had to take care of 6 week old twins. My husband remembers about 7-10 days. I hope Jims recovery is easy and quick.

Bad news, I had a miserable night with fever, chills, annoying cough and congestion.

Just tested and I am positive for Covid.

I have avoided it for 2.5 yrs guess I was due to get it.

I'm staying in spare bedroom to avoid Eric.   So far he feels fine.

I hope you feel better soon.

Just talked to my brother in Ft Myer, many cars were destroyed besides the homes , my brother got a nice settlement from insurance on car but local car dealers were charging 10k over list price and getting it. At least there suv is fine thinking of going to another state to buy a car. There removing 4 ft of dry wall from first story which is the majority of his house.

Four ft seems to be pretty standard for all of the houses I have seen.
