  1. My husband is a member of the Numismatic Society. I don't have an interest but have learned a little through tagging along to shows. Anything that you do to the coin, like cleaning , takes the value down. My husband was excited when my mom mentioned that she had a $20 gold piece and then his heart sank when he saw that she had it made into a necklace.
  2. My husband is a coin collector and does the same thing but also goes to coin shows. Quite a few of the people there are very helpful and have told him what is the absolute lowest he should sell for or to hold on to the coin and their opinion usually matches what he has found on the internet. He has sold some stuff, at the shows, above what he was told it was worth. I inherited a ring that I actually thought was costume jewelry. I took it to a local jeweler to find out if it was real before getting rid of it. It was real and offered me $500. I declined. I took it to the next coin show and showed it to a few vendors. The first few offered me exactly $500 so I kept walking. One said $1000 and I slid that ring over to him so fast and took the cash.Try a coin show for some different opinions, you might get lucky.
  3. I am going with an open mind. We watched all the commercials for RC Oasis Class, read reviews and comments and decided it was not for us. After a few years we booked Oasis and fell in love. We would have missed out on some fantastic cruises if our initial thoughts held us back.
  4. We have been Royal fans for about 30 years but I am cruising next week on Scarlett Lady. I'll give you my opinion when I get back.
  5. My husband ate the Last Dab Hot sauce with no problem just like he eats Ghost peppers. One year he planted a chocolate habanero plant which grew out of control and produced more than we could eat so we offered them to neighbors and friends, with a warning. No one came back for seconds. He finally removed it after us all having to leave the house when he sautéed them. The capsaicin released through the air causing our eyes to burn and lots of coughing. When we removed it we saw a lot of dead bees and wasps so we assumed that they might have eaten it and then died.
  6. I flew cross country with my cat under the seat it front of me. Longest and most miserable 5 hours of our lives. I'm sure the other passengers agreed as she screeched and howled the entire time. Last Sunday we drove our daughters cats back to her after 3 weeks of babysitting and they did well. They were very happy to see their mom and their new big sister. My daughter was away training with her new facility/service dog that will work with her in a children's hospital.
  7. I inherited 3 complete sets, for 24, of china, along with sets of silver. It all has to be hand washed and polished so it never gets used. I have terrible memories of spending hours polishing the silver before the holidays. I also have 3 kids so of course each of them was to get a set but none of them want it. Maybe they will change their minds as they are still young. If not, I will sell it and enjoy a nice vacation!
  8. I know the life of a band teacher very well and admire everything that they do. My twins were in band for 7 years and we volunteered for everything from pre game dinners, driving to competitions, band camp and at the end of football season just hoping the team would lose because we were tired and just wanted it to be done. Of course in reality we were never done. Concerts, more competitions and private lessons were year round. Both of our girls did very well, but for one it was more social, while the other was ranked #2 in the state and was approached by a few colleges. She turned it all down to become a child life specialist at a children's hospital. She is at a training center this week to pick up her new facility dog that will work with her at the hospital.
  9. I'm cruising next month on Virgin and just found out that they have eliminated pre cruise testing as of next week. One less thing to stress about.
  10. Good luck with the opossum. My dog goes to physical therapy a few times a week so while he is doing his thing I have been bottle feeding baby raccoons. Mama was found dead with 4 surviving babies. My time with them will be ending soon as they are starting to eat solids and will be released into the wild when they are ready so I'm enjoying every minute I get with them.
  11. Happy birthday! I got a Darrell Lea Easter egg when I was and exchange student in Australia. I couldn't tell you what kind it was but I remember it being amazing.
  12. I was able to get it sliced thin, on Harmony, in December.
  13. Spoiling is good! My brother and I spent every summer, from about 6-12 years old, with our grandparents in the mountains. We would fish, swim, go boating, catch things in the creek, do puzzles, shell peas, bake and go into "town" among other simple things. Our daughter is bringing us our grand cats to watch while she goes to Georgia to pick up a facility dog for her hospital. She will be the primary handler. I just set up all of the new toys for them and told my husband not to complain at what I spent because human grandchildren would cost a lot more.
