I'm thinking your hand carried tote will be loaded in the storage area under the bus .  Enjoy your cruise!

They say to keep your hand carried item with you - your meds and important papers will be in there.  Not sure if I want it under the bus.  But again, the riverboat is not like the train or the bus with room under your seat.

I know they have done this millions of times and it all works out but I like everything spelled out before I leave home.

  2. Thanks so much skynight for taking the time to reply.   Yes, you have it correct.  That is what I figured would happen.   We have been trying to do this for three years and I screwed up not going in a day earlier.  We always go two days early for cruising and earlier if there are a lot of sea days right away.  As with everyone these days,  the airlines have been playing games so things could still change.

I wish the land portion itinerary was available for us now.

    thanks again.

  3. Yesterday,  Princess finally updated the itinerary telling us we will be staying at the Riverside Lodge in Fairbanks.  Figured that was where we would be but I was waiting for it in writing.   We are doing the Riverboat cruise the morning after we arrive.   It says it is 8:00 to 1:00.   Then we have a 3 hour coach ride to Denali Wilderness Lodge.  Next, it says we have the afternoon at our leisure!!     ON the bus!!!???

What time does the bus leave?  As soon as we get off the riverboat ?   Check out time is 11:00 - so I assume we must take our hand carried tote on the riverboat - and some bags go toward the ship and others to the Denali lodge.   Our flight arrives at 8:30 pm but I know others come in much later.   When do they plan to fill us in????

I am a planner and want to know things up front.    We have friends that live in Fairbanks and want us over for a BBQ - don't think that will happen but we would like to see them for a few minutes.    Will there be any time when we get off the riverboat?

Can anyone fill me in our your experience.    Last time we did this, we left from Anchorage so this is completely different.

I really appreciate any replies.    Thanks

  4. What is a CT value? CT stands for “Cycle Threshold” and indicates how many times a machine needed to try to copy a particular virus’s genetic material before being able to detect that material on a particular test called a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test. The CT value can be looked at as an indirect indicator of the amount of viral genetic material detected from a particular specimen on a particular test at a particular time. In general, a lower CT value indicates a higher viral load in that specimen, and a higher CT value indicates a lower viral load.

I have not heard of any other countries using this.  If you test positive In the Cayman's,  after 10 days in quarantine,  your CT value needs to be above 32 before they allow you to get out of quarantine.  I had no symptoms but my CT value started at 15,  7 days later it was 27,  and when I hit 32.6 they allowed me to leave.   I was not allowed out of my room.  They set a table outside of my door where I could grab my food.   I was told if I did not follow the rules of the government, I could be fines $10,000 and put in jail for 2 years.    It was 12 days of hell.     It was not cheap - $3000 for the room.   So make sure you purchase insurance.   Last minute flights are very expensive.

  5. I went on a scuba trip to Little Cayman and tested positive.   I was in quarantine for 12 days until my CT value was above 32.   At that point I received a letter of recovery from the Cayman government stating I had covid and did my quarantine and now and was cleared to travel.   It is good for 90 days from when you had covid.

Oh wow. I have a friend and her husband stuck in Sint Eustatius right now, but their experience has been completely the opposite. They were given and ocean front room, and access to the pool. The employees go grocery shopping for them and pick up dinner for them every night. The husband is still testing positive so they're stuck there through the weekend still though. They're ready to go home, but they've been treated very well.

That would have been lovely.   I was going to do a prison break at midnight but when I asked the asst manager she said it would be best if I just stayed in my room.   We booked ocean view rooms 3 years ago and by the time our group decided on a date, they were all taken.   And they were booked solid - surprised I was allowed to stay in my room.

What got me through it was my daily writing of a script for a tv series called Covid Island.   I tried to make it funny and all of my friends loved it and said that was the first thing they looked for in the morning.   My son also helped me  installed netflex on my tablet.    I figured if I acted like I felt, I would be totally depressed.

Or are the Covid police going to be waiting outside our door to whisk us away to quarantine? I assume, since we will be doing an online proctored test, that no one will know if we test positive.

Be thankful it is Canada and not The Cayman Islands.     I tested positive after a scuba diving trip and the resort marched me straight back to my room and told me I could not leave.   I got yelled at when I had my door open while I was standing 2 feet inside and my son 5 feet away from the door.  They placed a table right outside my door and I had to grab my food off of it and close the door immediately.  And then received a bill for $3000 for my 12 day stay.  The manager told me I could be fined $10,000 and put in jail for two years if I stepped outside my room.   One of the times I talked with the nurse, she told me I had better adhere to the rules of the Cayman Islands or suffer the consequences.   It was 12 days of hell.  At least I have my letter of recovery that will still be within the 90 days for our cruise.   But I do worry about my husband and kids.

  9. So sorry that you are upset with Princess.    I have not been happy with them either.  3 1/2 hours on hold and we still flight issues.        We have also had cancelations for our upcoming Alaska cruise.    And I am very disappointed.   We have had nine cruises canceled the past two years.    And many private excursions where I did not get my deposit returned.    We have experienced  many long waits at restaurants and other businesses. There is a worker shortage in all areas.

You may think you were the first to book.   Not sure if you are elite or not but elite people have the perk which allows them to book early and there are many repeat people that do Alaska every year.

What a fun trip that would be. That’s sounds like a smooth operation they had going on there.
Did you have to wear a mask for your whole vacation at the resort, or just for the test? Was this for guests flying back to the countries that still need it?
How did you get the results for flying if she just looked at them?

Thanks.   The first week of diving was great - our dive team had it booked in 2020 and 2021.   We had to wear masks whenever we were in any of their buildings and to and from the airport in their vehicles.   All meals were buffet - divers get very hungry!!   You wore your mask until you started to eat.   If you got up without it to get something, one of the staff was right on you.  Outdoor bar, pool and on the boats did not require masks.    Last year in Cozumel, you wore them all over town and even on the dive boats until you put your reg in your mouth.

We all had to register before taking the test.    The test result was emailed to you a couple hours later and the resort would print it out if you need a printed one.

Unfortunately, I was the only one in the resort that tested positive - no symptoms.   They were very strict about their quarantine requirements.    You could not step out of your room until your CT Value was above 32.   No idea how I picked it up.   When I was able to leave, one of the dive staff told me two hotel staff were in quarantine just before me.  They get tested every two days.

That’s something I’d like to see. A pub full of people doing Covid tests… that ought to clear the pub out. Not what the pub owner was hoping for, either.😉

We were at a scuba diving resort in the Caribbean a month ago.  Everyone was tested at noon on Friday in their conference/meeting room.   Reservations are Saturday to Saturday.     They had large tables with 4 chairs at each.  We all were at least 6 week apart.    There was a test kit at each chair and we were told to leave our masks on until told to take them off.    We were told when to take our mask off and swab our nose.  Then we were suppose to immediately put the mask back on before we did anything else.    The nurse walked around and looked at all of our kits.   Then we were told to leave.

I was very impressed as to how organized it was.

  12. That is our plan also.  I purchased a good supply and will take four tests for each of us.  We need a test to get on the ship after our land portion - not sure if Princess will do them at their lodge.  I plan to test one day before for both ship and flight home.    We have AT&T and phone calls in Canada are free.

I imagine Princess changed their policy so they are not responsible for the paying for the quarantine expenses.   I was in quarantine for 11 days and my resort bill was $3000.  Canada requires 14 days.  I signed up for the international phone plan and just needed to use it one day - $10 was reasonable.

  13. When we went to dinner, Mike would put it in his pocket.   I usually am wearing a swimming suit most of the time around the ship in warm weather locations so I would either stick it into the top of my swimsuit or stick it up under my swimsuit at the hip.   If no swimsuit, I would stick it into my bra.

First cruise with the medallion, I made Mike put it in his pocket.   The last cruise I had to take a small purse around with me for the medallion and my phone.    I did use the lanyard around my next in ports - stuck it under what ever I was wearing.   I do not like it on display - just like so many people carrying around their blue Princess bag - shouts tourist!!!
