We have been in our house 44 years, so a lot of stuff.  Having four kids store everything in the walk up attic has been a treat😳All their work clothes, school stuff, prom dresses, wedding stuff just shoved up there so we can never move😁

I am one of five and when you moved out of the house, you had to take all your stuff with you!  My Mom wouldn't let us leave anything.  I am going to try that if I can ever get my son out of here lol 😄

Thanks. I've never eaten in CK. What's your opinion of it? Is it more like a specialty restaurant or more like a smaller MDR just with different choices? Despite being on Cruise Critic every day I haven't really done any research about the dinner experience there.

Quantum class ships handle reservations a lot better than Oasis class and you should be able to make dinner reservations for the whole week.  That has been our experience on multiple ships of this class.

As far as the food, some like it, some don't.  We find the food always is hot and fresh in CK.  My DH loves the french onion soup in CK and gets it every night.  I find there are more fish options in CK..  You should be able to find the menus in the app to get an idea of what they have.

I thought for JS cabins CK is only available for dinner on space availability and breakfast and lunch isn't an option. Is that not true for JS cabins? I'm on the Ovation at the end of the month.

Yes, it is on a space available basis if you are in a JS but on Ovation, you should be able to make reservations for the whole week.  Just go to the podium outside of CK once you board and they will help you with reservations.

Billy Joel, Live at MSG is on TV. He still sounds really good!

It is a rebroadcast because the Masters ran long on Sunday.  Some local markets decided to cut to the 11pm news instead of running the whole concert and people went nuts!

He did sound really good though.  We have recorded it Sunday night and have watched some.

Charlie is slowly killing me🥴 After therapy today I went to pick him up and, we think, his blood sugar was low.  He fell outside the place but a few wonderful people got to him quickly.  He was light headed but I got him home and we treated the problem.  He seems better but I am really so tired.  Thanks for asking though!

Oh no!  I hope he didn't do anymore damage.  I can't imagine how mentally and physically exhausted you must be.  Take care of yourself too.  🙂

  6. You get a glass 1 liter bottle in your cabin as a welcome aboard and some cabin stewards will replace it during the week, but I don't think they are supposed to.  Only ship I ever had small water bottles left for us was Quantum in Alaska.  There was a full case of 500ml bottles loaded in the cabinet below the Lavazza coffee machine.  Not sure if that was a holdover from sailing in Singapore or what, but was nice to have.

We were prepared to file ours this past weekend, then I learned that residents of three counties in RI (ours included) don’t have to file until July 15th due to flooding disasters declared last year.  Even though we didn’t have any flooding damage, I’ll take that extension, thank you very much, especially since we’re among those who always have to pay.

Maine and Massachusetts have until April 17th to file because of Patriots Day yesterday and Emancipation Day in Washington DC today.  We filed on Friday since we have to pay too.

By the time the NJEA (Jersey Week) takes place, the Symphony will be on its way to homeport in Miami and the Odyssey won't be in Bayonne for another week.  Plus, Election Day is Nov. 5, so that's a good week for the kiddos to be yanked out of school for a cheaper cruise.

Yes, I am aware of that.  We are on Odyssey in November.

Looking at the schedule, it looks like they have a gap in the schedules and no Royal ship is there for Jersey Week.  Don't ever remember that happening in the past.

Thanks for all the responses so far.

I actually would prefer not going Halloween week but wondered why it was a teeny bit cheaper.

Oct 20-27…that isn’t heavy with school fall breaks is it?

Not sure too many get fall school breaks.  October 14 is Columbus Day and kids have that off but that is the week before you are considering.  We have sailed from Bayonne in that timeframe because it can be cheaper.  There are always kids but certain weeks can just be bad out of Bayonne, like Jersey Week and Yeshiva Week.

We've cruised (twice) on Halloween.  It's not a particular busy week, and it's not particularly kid-heavy.  The weather was lovely, and the prices were low.  I think most kids prefer to stay home /take part in their local activities with their friends, and I think most parents don't want their kids to miss out on a once-a-year treat at home.

Kids (though few in number) were able to trick-or-treat in the shops, and some people (us included) gave out candy.  We attached a little plastic tub to our door and people helped themselves as they walked by -- people seemed to like it.

The Windjammer put up fancy decorations at the door.  The Centrum was decorated with balloons and streamers.

More adults dressed up than I would've expected -- and some went all out.  Halloween fell on formal night, and adults came to dinner in costumes!

You sailed out of Bayonne over Halloween?

    Hello all.

looking at booking Bahamas cruise on symphony out of Bayonne in October. Which would have less people/kids? October 20-27 or the next week which is Halloween? The Halloween week is a tad less expensive which to me would mean not as popular. But the whole Halloween thing..dressing up, parties onboard, contests…I would think that would be more popular.
    TIA

Halloween week can be busy but fun.  Either of the weeks you list shouldn't be too bad.  I would absolutely avoid the week after Halloween as it aligns with Jersey Week, which is a week all the kids are off school in New Jersey and is typically a very kid heavy, busy week on whatever ship is sailing from New Jersey at the time.

They're not dropping passengers in the open Caribbean, but one of the inlets. Not a lot of wave action or under tow from my experience at island stops. All bets are off if a storm is passing through.

I will get more info because it looks like one of the better excursions I've seen lately.

    BTW,  I know 50 y/o people a lot older than I am.

The strenuous part could be getting yourself on and off the catamaran.  We have done an excursion at that port that had a ladder off the back you had to get yourself up on to get back on the boat, with a strong current that actually swept one person under the boat.  I was able to get back on but it was challenging.  They did also have a dingy that they were taking people from the boat to the shore and some were opting for that as they knew they couldn't reboard from the water.  Not sure if this excursion would have that option.

Yup. I’ve been had this happen multiple times over the last couple months as I try to plan for my upcoming cruise. I’ve changed my password about 7 or 8 times in that time period. It’s frustrating.

I haven't had issues until today.  App recognizes me with facial recognition but wants password too.  Had to reset the password to get into the app.  Website worked fine.

I’ve been feeling emotional today.  First we have Bella crossing over the rainbow bridge, then totally unrelated, the Red Sox Home Opening Day ceremony.  They paid a 20 year tribute to the 2004 team that “reversed the curse”.  They also honored Tim Wakefield who passed away last fall from brain cancer at 57 and his wife Stacy who died only 5 months later from pancreatic cancer.  Most of the 2004 players came onto the field, accompanying the Wakefield’s son and daughter, who through out the first pitch.  Such composure from a 17 and 19 year old who recently lost both parents. It was very touching and there weren’t many dry eyes anywhere on the field.

I also watched the opening day ceremonies.  They did a wonderful job with American Pie and all the highlights of the season and the Wakefields and Larry Lucchino.  Even the choice of "You'll Be in My Heart" as the walk out song was perfect.

Finally, got to see it.  It was exciting I must admit.  It was like looking at the crescent moon.

    My granddaughter went crazy.

Glad you saw it.  My Mom said it was a big nothing.  I asked her if she put the glasses on and looked at the sun and she said no, she only watched the tv.  😨  I told her to go outside and put on the glasses and look but she only went to the hallway window, but she finally saw it. 🙂

Went outside with glasses, saw nothing.  Story of my life😳

That's too bad.  We are at about 50% coverage right now.  Really cool to see it.  We are only going to be at around 90% covered at the max for our area.  Still worth seeing.  Traffic north was gridlocked all morning, so glad I didn't try to go to northern NH.

They really do! At first, I thought I got scammed as they looked like cheap 3-D movie glasses. Then when I put then on inside the house,  I couldn't see a thing. I thought maybe the lens was covered & needed to be peeled off.

But when I looked at the sun, wow. I'm guessing maybe 25% coverage.

We aren't even 1/8th covered yet.  We have clouds but sun isn't blocked by them yet.
