  1. With the state of the Canadian dollar,we will be passing on the specialty restos. We've done them all anyways. Unless of course, there is some kind of "fire" sale due to lack of interest.

We have done all the specialty restaurants in past sailings and to be honest, while service was more personal and the ambiance is nicer, the food was not worth the additional $50 USD per person.

We will not be using the specialty restaurants anymore, just not worth the money for us.

  2. jen&samcantwait , good review. Everyone's opinion counts and yours is on point.

Although I have never been on Carnival, I do agree with Celebrity becoming a dead zone after 8 PM. So many wonderful spaces all empty.

I also agree with your take on passengers. Some very rude people, in the elevator lines and in the buffet particularly. It may be an age thing but, old people being rude to other old people is almost comedic, and I am a retiree :)

Anyway, thanks for your perspective. I have only cruised Celebrity and perhaps it is time to spread my wings?

  3. OP may have the unlimited internet package so cost may not be an issue. However unlimited internet times zero service still equals zero service.

^ Yes, OP may also have some OBC to use up. :)

You are both correct but there was noting in the posts to suggest that and it was only a thing to take into consideration.

There are multiple posts on the forums regarding buying Ipads and Ipods onboard and there are the same warnings about initiating them and loading them by other posters.

I cannot understand why my comments are begin take as negative or derogatory

  4. Thanks all - appreciate your input.

Pete_Coach - it is up to me if I want to buy one on board surely! Everywhere sells Apple at Apple MSRP - so not sure of your point. But I am thinking of replacing my current iPod and wondered about getting it there.

Absolutely it is up to you. No need to get nasty.

My point was only that there is no savings and getting any music on the onboard purchased device will be expensive if you wish to activate it as internet connection onboard is very slow and expensive. Geez.

  5. We took advantage of this offer except for a 6 Feb departure.

The Canada , It's All Included offer has been in our local newspaper every Saturday in the travel section since last Summer.

It has been on the Celebrity website all that time too http://www.celebritycruises.com/htmlpage/caribbean-all-included-vacation-package#breadcrumbs

I suspect the 27 Feb Cruise has many empty cabins and they are drumming up business :)

  6. I am sure they sell all Apple products but why would you buy a Nano onboard? You would need to load it up and the wifi on board is very slow and very expensive. And, the price is no better than anywhere shore based. Celebrity sells Apple products a t the Apple MSRP.

If you what music player, buy it before you get onboard and load it up with your music before the cruise.

  7. Forgot to add, my insurance carrier paid for me to go to diabetes school....5 weeks of talks about the disease, the diets, the balance....well worth it so ask

Mr. Click, sorry for going off topic but I always like to see photos of cruises and if you are going to have a link to photos of your trip in your signature...don't make it a protected photo site or include the password so we can see them :)

  8. We did a number of Celebrity tours on our first Med cruise and on our second, we got private tours.

Reason? Well, the Celebrity tours were generally on big buses (especially in Florence, Rome and Turkey). There was many hours wasted waiting for passengers to get on and off the bus as well as those that lost track of time causing the next stop to be either missed or dramatically shortened. On a big bus you are limited to the slowest person and at certain times of the year there are many physically challenged folks on those tours.

The private tours (we found some passengers on Roll Calls wanting to hook up with others to take a private tour), we generally got out to the area first as well as being able to make changes mid tour if the weather or traffic or jus change of mind warranted.

Surprisingly, the price was not much more, if at all, with the Celebrity tour. Some tours we took were considerably cheaper and far better as to what was offered. (Amalfi and Ephesus come to mind).

  9. I have type 2 diabetes and it does take a while to get over the shock of diagnosis and then to regulate your diet to accommodate your blood sugar.

Get a meter and pay attention to what foods lower or maintain a level of the sugar, what foods keep it the same and what foods help bring it down.

I lead a very normal life (with my medications). I eat what I like, I drink wine (and other alcohols), but all in moderation, with a few overindulgences now and then. :)

While it is overwhelming now, it will quickly become a matter of fact and your life will change very little if you pay attention.

I have been on many cruises and vacations and my diabetes has never dampened or prevented me doing any of the things I enjoy.

  10. I agree that it can be tight. Many factors can cause your delay.

For sure a private car and driver would be a wise choice but it does depend on the day of the week, traffic and how tight the check in counter plays by the rules. I believe that, as you are flying within the country you only need to be checked in within 60 minutes of the flight.

If you can do online check in (at the computer center on the ship) the day before that will save you time as you only need to drop off bags and not be in line to check in.

  11. It does not take long to get ashore but, with nothing planned, it may be difficult to fond things as there can be up to 6 ships being tendered at the same time. We had 5 with one of them being Oasis of the Seas and it's 6000 passengers. The town was chocked full. Taxis to the beaches were stuck. in traffic. It was a zoo and we went back aboard by noon.

Check here for the port and dates and you can see how many ships will be in port that day. http://ports.cruisett.com/

  12. Contemplating this ship. Have only cruised on Carnival. Do they charge for certain restaurants? What are some additional costs.

    Thank you.

Like all cruise lines nowadays there are "specialty" restaurants and they are extra charge.

Yes there are addition costs for things ranging from drink of the day to spa fees to excursions bu that is also the same as all other cruise lines.

Celebrity, while they may have "nicer" more "upscale" ships are basically the same as all others lines where they charge extra for everything they can.

  13. I have had all sorts of problems with the Celebrity website since before Christmas. Primarily not being able to connect to my account. I called many times with little or no fixes to the account and website connectivity. I have several posts on Cruise Critic about this, as do many other people.

When I decided to call the Captains Club rep, things got sorted out real quick and I got my online check in resolved and even was able to get my luggage tags and E-Docs sent to me the very next day.

Yes, I agree, the Captains Club reps seem to have a better resource channel to get things done than the regular reps. I really did not think there was a difference but there seems to be.

I strongly suggest everyone join Captains Club, for the support reason alone.

  14. I personally would never let anyone pick up my luggage at the airport unless I witnessed the pickup and transfer to the bus and the transfer from the bus to Celebrity. My wife was without luggage due to airline issue many years ago and it was not a fun cruise. That was the last time we travelled on embarkation day. I always tip the baggage handlers at the port well and watch them load the bags into a container. I still don't feel completely comfortable until that luggage arrives at the cabin.

I do not let anyone touch my bags...ever. I travel a lot for work, worldwide, and never leave my bags in someone elses care.

Traveling on embarkation day is also something we never do but in the case of the "all in one" package, Celebrity is the airline (chartered of course), then pick up at Miami airport and bused to the port. Same for the return, bus, plane, home, all part of the package.

  15. Yes.... Old-timer... You are dating yourself.lol. Im right behind ya..lol

We are leaving Feb 6 too.... No E-Docs yet!!! Whats with that?

Darn, remind me never to use "old timers" as my references :)

Are you on the Reflection out of Miami?

I am a huge football fan (and coach) and the Superbowl while onboard is a treat. The wives can do the spa and pool thing and we can watch the game and take part in the tailgate party.

  16. We are coming from PEI staying at airport hotel in Moncton Friday nite and heading to airport for 6am ..hoping to get seats together as its a first come and the Halifax cruisers are already onboard. I phoned Celebrity this morning to request luggage tags and she said our tickets aren't issued yet so no can do . She told me that tickets should be out within two days then we can request tags.. So keep on checking celebrity site

    My mistake,

I double checked the E-Docs and the flight information is there. I am all set now except luggage tags...but like I said, that is no problem.

Now I can make arrangements to get to the Ottawa airport.

We have been on 3 Celebrity cruises, 2 in the Mediterranean and one on the Caribbean. The Super Bowl cruise on 6 Feb is just what we needed.

Like Jackie Gleason used to say "and awaaaaaay we go" (is that dating myself?.... Jackie Gleason?) :)

  17. Whats your cruise date?

6 Feb. But everything was supposed to be available 2 months prior to cruise date. I still have no official flight details, just what the rep told me she thinks are the flights.

I still have 3 weeks but getting the luggage tags may not happen (between USPS and Canada Post, who knows how long they will be in the mail :)). No big deal there.

The flight info is important as I have to find someone to get us to the departure airport early on Saturday morning.

  18. Well, good news.

After being told yesterday they had massive computer problems and t will be at least a week before anything can happen, early this morning I got my E-Docs.

Unfortunately, to get my E-Docs I have ot get into my account and my account has the dreaded "The current transaction is unavailable due to technical difficulties. Please try again later or call our customer service desk. " message.

One step forward.....oh wait, no forward step. Time to call again :)
