    Adios, Costa Victoria.

    @Patricia- thanks.

After laying up in Civitavecchia (Rome) for two months,

#CostaVictoria has sailed to another Italian port #Piombino this week.

Recent rumours mention that #CostaCruises may have already sold this vessel

to cut cost in the recent financial situation,

and the ship may be acquired by other companies to convert to floating accommodation.

However the Mayor of Piombino, Francesco Ferrari Sindaco,

has just written on social media that the 24-year-old cruise ship

    will be demolished and scrapped.

Until now Costa Cruises has not yet commented about the news,

and some future sailings of Costa Victoria is still available to be booked on their website.

  2. Here in Barbados we seem to routinely have 10 or so cruise ships

    hanging around -

usually 5 or 6 anchored in the Bay (or in port taking supplies?)

and another 5 or so,  just offshore somewhere, biding time.

AIDAluna has been here SO LONG now, she is a permanent fixture.

    - at least 2 months if not more!

Thank you for the wonderful pictures !

We are booked on a Celebrity Cruise - due to be in Barbados on September 20, 2020  -

We are still optimistically hoping that this cruise will actually happen 😄

Any thoughts on whether your beautiful island will be open to cruise ships then ??

    THANKS

I think I heard local media talk about cruise industry resuming

as 'September' -presumably from Sept. 1st?

We've been on a Carnival cruise

that had embarkations in both San Juan and Barbados.

I'm very fortunate to live in Barbados

where many of us islanders take advantage of Carnival's dual-embarkation

for their Southern Caribbean cruise from P.Rico -Southward to Barbados -and back.

We've been on several Wednesday-to-Wednesday cruises on Victory and Valor

(back when Wed. was 'Carnival Day' on the island) - but recently- i.e. pre-Covid
    that got changed to Fridays!

@Aplmac have you ever had a Barbados to Barbados only itinerary

or have you always joined in halfway through a San Juan departure?

Seeing as I live in Barbados

I've had many more Barbados-to-Barbados itineraries, than I have the other kind!

Now and again "half-cruises" pop up

after some interruption in the ship's regular schedule (charters)

and we can get half-cruises either from Barbados-to-P.Rico-only
    or P.Rico-to-Barbados-only. I've done two of them(P.Rico-to-Barbados-only)

    but that happens only rarely.

HARMONY of the Seas - just pulled into Port this morning

to facilitate repatriation of some 4,000 crew members

via air, from our island airport, going home to Europe and the Far East

RFA 'Argus' is a Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessel (British)

stationed here for the Hurricane Season, in case!

Other cruise ships are still at anchor in Carlisle Bay-or fooling around offshore.

AIDAluna and Seabourn Odyssey are now permanent fixtures

    - having been here for well over a month!!

Makes you wonder just how long this non-cruising pause will continue, if

in late May, they are sending large amounts of crew back home!

I said somewhere on the site that Carnival co had organised all Indian crew members in the UK,   from P&O/Cunard ships, to return home on Ventura, and there was a great movement of people from the ships ready for last Tuesday's sailing.

At the last minute, the Indian Government agreed that all these crew members could fly home, so the ship returned to her dock.

Perhaps this has happened to other Carnival owned ship moored near you, Aplmac?

I was six days in the local Hospital, so I was completely out of touch

    with local marine happenings

    - something I was following via observation and via marinetraffic.com.

Even when I got out, I wasn't paying much attention

so there's a big gap there...

I know that while I was in, there were quite a few Carnival ships around

and I missed the whole ruddy lot!

Fairly sure they have now come and gone while I wasn't looking.

What they were doing here, I don't know

but wouldn't be surprised if they were getting crew onto charter flights

home-bound from our local airport. I know there's been a bit of that going on

over the past few weeks/month, so there is now an established procedure

    for others to follow.

I haven't heard from my usual source of info, so I'm pretty much in the dark!

There were five ships in/around Carlisle Bay/Port this evening
Two Princesses (Emerald and Caribbean) and the usual AIDAluna and Odessey
with Explorer of the Seas alongside in the Port

and  Serenade of the Sea offshore somewhere. That's it!!

    Aplmac, Your news is significant!

I hope you are now well, and will continue to be so.  ===> Thank you.

I've missed your excellent photos, and your updates.

Greatly improved, and continuing daily! Onward and upward.

I just had a look at the local Port schedule to come for the next few weeks

and it would appear that HARMONY of the Seas shall linger with us for quite a while

Have a look at this schedule thru to next month!

  13. IN between now and then, I've had a STEMI heart attack!

but that aside.. ships have been coming and going

while I was out of commission.

    On  marinetraffic.com

I've just seen two Carnivals beating a hasty retreat at around 14 kts.

halfway over to St. Lucia, obviously going somewhere, as a pair!

    AIDAluna and Seabourn Odyssey

now seem to be almost-permanent fixtures, they've been here so long!

Caribbean Princess is a new arrival.

Miss the days I'm not cleaning, cooking, washing, etc. at home.

I miss not having to do the ruddy DISHES after meals!

I'm the dishwasher! She does the cooking

and trust me, you wouldn't want us switching roles!

I'd rather go swimming like these guys..

  15. Two Carnivals have joined 'the Barbados Fleet'

    - Freedom and Valor -- Glory arrives next week.

But for now the three ships at anchor in Carlisle Bay

that seem to be permanent fixtures these days

are the same three - Vision, Luna and Odyssey

    Look carefully..

you might see other ships on the far horizon
