  1. I was wondering what is everyone's favorite place for a drink? When we were on the Mariner last month we liked the Sky Bar, Ellingtons, Bolaros. Just curious to see what people like on the Liberty....

I always like Boleros best on each ship - and liberty too. Bartenders are great. I love caphiranas and they make them great at boleros. i even spilled a little of my drink when i was picking it up and he poured me more!

  2. the surf dinner is surf and turf. i'm allergic to shellfish, so i don't remember the 'featured entree" with great clarity because i got the top sirloin on quite a few nights. chef's dinner - i think that was the lobster nights. if you want to book chops but avoid formal's, don't book on 2nd and 5th night - those are formal nights. the fifth night is lobster night.

  3. We are booked on LOS for the Aug. 30th cruise. I've been checking this site frequently and have read a lot of interesting information regarding the experiences others had on LOS and about the ship itself. This will be our 3rd cruise (2nd on RCCL) and I can't wait!!!!!

like the prev. poster said, there are lots of good reviews for the ship and sailings. some from my sailing. i just got back from the eastern caribbean route on 5/24. it was great! The captain is charles t. and the CD is alan brooks. the entire cruise director's staff was awesome. in fact, everyone on the ship was awesome. we learned on this cruise, that royal caribbean composed liberty's staff by taking from other ship's staff. they must have done this to get the best of the best. this was our 6th cruise and it was wonderful!

  4. here's something that has been bothering me since we got off our cruise on enchantment last year...... In the new ben and jerry's/seattle's coffee area, they have a place with snacks that looks similar to cafe promenade on other ships. i went there one day, wanting a brownie, and went to walk away as i don't have to pay for this, it's included in my cruise fare, or so i thought. the lady at the cash register said, "if you buy a coffee drink, it's free." So, was this place different than lets say cafe promenade? or are they charging for that too? i'd like to know what to expect this may. thanks!

  5. We were on Enchantment on the same cruise. What a great time we had. The cruise director Marc Bing Bong Walker was fantastic. We loved it so much we went again in Oct 07 and are going again with our daughter and son in law May 31. The only bad thing about the cruise last June we got delayed getting off the ship and sweated making the plane.

So, they have changed the cruise director? it's not paul rutter anymore? (i think that was his name). when i went in sept. of 2007 we definately didn't have anyone named marc bing bong walker. :-)

  6. I am taking my first cruise May. I am staying on deck 8 8620. Was the noise level low on this deck? Starting to get really excited here!

We stayed on deck 8 on our freedom cruise. i don't remember exactly which room number. but, it was a great location....it was central, close to the elevators. it was nice, not noisy at all. we had a balcony room.

  7. Does anyone where I can see the menus for the 5 night? Trying to figure out which night to go to chops? thanks

can't exactly remember which menus for which nights. but, i can tell you this......after 5 cruises......the menus don't change much. i.e. the menu for the first night of the cruise is always the same! we always run to chops the minute we board the boat and make res. for that night. the first night is always a bit drab and people at your table don't always show up. i'd go for night number one. lobster night was next to last, i believe. if you go to dining room on night number two, your waiter will tell you what the entrees will be for the week. but, i'd go to chops on day one, you won't miss anything.

  8. Thanks for all those cool pictures.....even though i have been on freedom and have been in interior and balcony rooms.....I have to admit, i've NEVER seen the "bunk" bed situation because i only travel with one other person (husband) and i've never seen the sofa bed folded out either and have never tried to unfold it. :-)

our humble abode for one week on freedom...

  9. I am also VERY excited about my upcoming cruise on FOS :D

What I would like to know:

We are in 1590 port side/ deck 10. Will we have noise from the pool deck?

Sorry about this one, I don't know, I stayed in balcony on deck 8.

Do you see plenty of waiters in the solarium? (And does the 15% automatic tip cover their service as well as the bartenders?)

yes, i never went to the main deck - there are too many people there and i get claustrophobic sometimes. plus, it's a little gross to see the diapered kids in the pool with the spray :-) i got plenty of drinks and i had to shoo them sometimes and the tip is included in the bill

What is the food like at the Cafe Promenade?

pizza, sandwhiches, coffee, cakes, brownies, cookies, - general snack food. the pizza rocks.

Where do they shoot formal portraits?

    see my attachment

Is there really a midnight, poolside buffet? What night of the cruise?

yes, there is a formal midnight buffet on one of the formal nights with the "pretty" food that you take pictures of first. Then there is a poolside one with barbeque and dancing by the pool. It's fun, but it's always hard for me to stay up for it. i can't remember which night.

I am sure I will come up with more, but I am just happy someone started this thread.

Okay, I know that I sailed 2 years ago, But, I sailed the INAGURAL season on Freedom :-) Only the 3rd cruise on her. :-) I'll try to answer some. I have some pictures too. i've attached my formal portrait from freedom to give you a taste. This one is from the backdrop in front of the dining room. but, they also take them infront of the promenade. i've also attached my promenade pic from formal night on the mariner here.

  10. OKay, so, i've never understood this - I have a few friends who don't swim and do snorkel. I CAN swim, and have been swimming since i was 5 years old and feel I swim well - and always inflate my vest part way - as "geoshar" - i believe said - anything can happen in the water - especially at depths of even 15-20 feet. I can always deflate and reinflate as I see fit. Waves and water can be choppy, people get tired, with groups of people close together, masks can be kicked and so forth. I guess from going white water rafting and being thrown out in Class III rapids, I have a great respect for any water whatsoever.

So, I say, learn to swim. Usually, any place that teaches scuba will also teach you to swim. It is true that you can float in salt water, I can, but you still need to know how to float/swim. For now, to go snorkeling, I would say, you need a lifevest that will not deflate, you can buy them at sporting goods stores.

EVERY snorkeling excursion I have been on is one where they have driven a boat out into the ocean and dropped us off into a reef or something to snorkel. And, sometimes, they ask you to jump from the boat - no ladder. So, check that out before you book.
