  1. Thank you for the post and information, we are doing independent Trinidad, skipping the Havana due to length of travel and COST!.  We are sailing on the Star 2/21/19.  Decided to take a short cruise in September with NCL that docks in Havana for less than it would cost me to travel 6 hours on the Viking Star.  I am looking forward to seeing the other ports and it will round out my tour of Cuba.  Again, can't thank you enough for all the information.

  2. Great - I didn't know if they still did that! That is what I did on the breakway with Ocean Blue - used the package and then paid the upcharge and I got 3 courses, which was perfect. Thank you for the advice!

You are Welcome. I did check the website and copied to make sure they had changed it. Things seem to be changing on a regular basis.

  3. THAT would be an awesome way to get more customers...run a sale where you can transfer your loyalty level from another line of your choosing to NCL. Even if they made people pay a little extra to do the transfer, I’d bet they’d get a ton of new people willing to jump lines and give NCL a try.

It would be a good idea. That why I’m booked on MSC in May. They status match. I’ve never really thought of not cursing NCL but I’m going to MSC because they matched.

  4. If you know you are going to go to the following:

    • Ocean Blue - $10 USD
    • Bayamo - $10 USD
    • Cirque Dreams/Illusionarium - $10 USD regular seats/$15 USD premium seats/$35 USD VIP seating on Breakaway
    • Sushi -$7 USD
    • Raw Bar - $7 USD (Seafood Platter not included)
    • Pincho Tapas Bar - $7 USD

I would still buy the package and pay the uncharge. Ala carte meals can be pretty expensive without it, a lot more that the up-charge plus the meal plan cost. I figure the meal plan value per meal is around $25 and if you add the uncharge you get a full meal as opposed to just an entree that could be as much as that especially in Bayamo or Ocean Blue. Or at least check the menu prices and then decide. I always get the 3 meal package as a perk or pay for it. That way I get 5 meals on a 7 day cruise. IMHO

  5. Oh I forgot, now that I’m on a rant - why can’t I get a bottle of wine instead of the bubbly that they give to all levels!

    Cheaper!!!

Drink it 50:50 with apple juice!!

Apple juice? Now that’s something to think about, my SIL mixes hers with orange juice. I guess I shouldn’t complain about the wine I always get the drink package perk. Is just one of those annoying things. Thanks for the tip.

  6. Just the addition of Cagney's is a huge plus for me.

The meals are a nice Perk, I’m disappointed in the loss of double points 9 mos out. I booked 12 mos out and the next month it ended up being a Lattitudes cruise and I couldn’t get the double points because you had to book during the lattitudes period. I could have cancelled and rebooked buy why make your customer do that? That was always a huge incentive for me to bilk so I could reach the next level. I may make Platinum Plus but the next level is never going to happen especially if MSC and Viking Ocean are winners.

  7. Yes... NCL I sure you do actually monitor this board so WAKE UP! If you enable reciprocity within your own brands, you are less likely to lose folks moving up to other luxury lines. Oh and MSC YC looks damned good too... so stay awake!

So true, I am a loyal NCL cruiser but got status match (Black) with MSC and booked the Yacht club which offers more than the haven (they include their thermal spa) cheaper gratuities at a little over $2000 per person which is way less than the Haven. I haven’t sailed yet so I will have to wait and see. Also booked Viking ocean to Cuba for February. Small luxury ship no casino and shows but they spend 3.5 days in 2 cities in Cuba and not much more in price. I agree NCL Is missing an opportunity as well. If theses two go well, I’ve got some cruise next coupons for sale.

  8. Sailing on the Norwegian Escape and booked an inside room on the 12th floor where I paid $1,009 80 days till sailing. The prices were coming down online to $999 for a balcony which I really wanted but wasn't going to pay the $1,499 asking price at the time. I just had her change me to a guarantee balcony and won't know my room number until close to boarding. Did just make a big mistake? I'm new to cruising.

You did the right thing. I agree with all the other comments. I sailed 9/3 on the Escape and started in a solo and upgraded to balcony for $200 ended up in an Aft facing balcony for $37.00 more . So for $237 more than the $899 with the beverage and dining plus $100 OBC for an incredible balcony with 2 loungers and 2 chairs[emoji41]. Just keep checking the prices and call constantly to see what they can offer. I always ask for a free or reduced price upgrade.

    Good Luck and happy cruising.

  9. I guess they're trying to justify the cost increases. It does look much better. I'm just thinking if it's the same food at a higher price, they had to do something.

I've never eaten there on any of ships because I felt like it was something I could get at home. Nothing looked special enough to pay for. I hope the menu is different. Since I have UDP I'll definitely will give it a shot in November. Thanks to everyone for posting pictures. Can't wait until the 29th. Whoop Whoop
