  1. We sailed on Summit in March. Muster was at 7:45 PM. I had made reservations in Select Dining for 6 PM before the cruise. We had a wonderful dinner without rushing, but did not stay for coffee and dessert. After the muster we went to Cafe al Bacio to have it leisurely and then enjoyed sail away at 8:30. It all worked perfectly.

  2. Um, actually, no. The Celebrity dress code for international sailings, as stated on their website, does not include shorts at all, except in port. Yes, I know...strange but true.

Daywear includes slacks or pants, blouses or shirts, knit tops or polo shirts. Bring a pair of sneakers or rubber-soled shoes for deck sports and a swimsuit cover-up for cool areas on the ship.

Port wear for women includes a casual dress, skirt and blouse, or pants outfit; for men, casual pants or walking shorts, and polo-type shirts. Comfortable walking shoes are a must.

I guess women aren't allowed to wear shorts EVER according to Celebrity's printed dress code on it's website. How ridiculous is that!! I don't think many people would find that this guide reflects any kind of reality of how people really do dress.

The same has become true of the printed dress code relating to formal nights. It does not reflect the reality of how people are dressing and what Celebrity is enforcing. Anyone leading a person to believe that they will not be permitted in the MDR on formal nights without a jacket for men is misleading them.

  3. Celebrity needs to change the dress code on their website and in their dailies to reflect the reality of what they permit. The formal night tradition ended a good 5-7 years ago when dress codes were required in the MDR only and not ship wide.

Over my last three years of cruising on Celebrity, I have seen fewer and fewer people in formal dress and less and less effort to enforce it. On my last cruise in March on Summit, there were actually an equal number of men not wearing jackets as there were wearing them in the MDR on formal nights. That cruise was the first one ever that my husband did not wear a tux. I questioned the maître de about enforcement and his reply was that they had stopped trying.

Now that Celebrity has relaxed their codes to the degree that they have, I don't ever expect them to try to tighten them back.

  4. We absolutely love cruising, but also love renting a villa on a Caribbean island for a land vacation to enjoy the island without the cruise ship hordes. We've done this on a number of islands, but St. John is our favorite and we'll be enjoying our 4th St John villa vacation in April. We always choose mid-April because rental prices are down and very few cruise ships are still in the Caribbean.

We are lucky to live in a resort community on Lake Winnipesaukee in NH. Our daily life feels like a vacation. Visits to family in Lake Tahoe and Park City are also wonderful vacations with the advantage of being with loved ones.

  5. Agree about disturbing, don't see the fun.

I am a long time Celebrity cruiser. I have never had a bad waiter or room steward. Some have been superior, but all have been adequate. I have gotten to personally know wonderful, hardworking people who are overworked, underpaid, and always have a smile on their faces.

I have witnessed staff being treated rudely and with condescension by passengers on many occasions. That is so sad.

  6. We did the Option 1 itinerary in March and loved it. I notice a change in the Option 2 itinerary you printed. In March, St. Croix was one of the ports. It seems to have been replaced with Tortola. Which is the better option depends on what you like to do the most.

We have been to all of these ports before, some numerous times. We are now most interested in sailing catamarans, snorkeling and beaches. For us, Option 1 would be our choice. Dominica is not a beach island. It is more about hiking and exploring. I was to Martinique years ago and it was one of my least favorite islands ever. Tortola affords one the opportunity of sailing and snorkeling in the BVI waters which is absolutely wonderful. To me, that would be the most appealing part of Option 2.

  7. Depends on many factors: ship, sailing date, itinerary, how cabins are selling. Our March 2014 cruise on the Summit, seven night Caribbean out of San Juan had a base price of $899 for a CC3 cabin. Plus we had a free drink package and $100 OBC from Celebrity, plus more perks from our TA. We booked a year ahead. That was the lowest price I have ever paid for a cruise and that goes way back to 1979!!!!!

  8. Just a note about the service at the buffet on Azmara. In our early days of cruising on Celebrity on all of the Cenrury class ships, there would be a line of waiters in spiffy uniforms lined up to carry your tray and drinks to a table for you. As the ships got larger and larger, this service disappeared. It would be impossible to do this effectively in ships the size of the M and S class. It is one of the benefits of sailing on a small ship.

I have toyed with the idea of sailing on Azmara one day, but your review has changed my mind. I think I'd be bored to death.

  9. A larger internet package ($99 v. $49 package). An additional wash and fold laundry coupon. Free regular Cappuccinos, Lattes, Espressos and Specialty Teas. These are the main differences.

Are the free coffees and teas as many as you want or coupons for a free one? We'll be reaching our Elite + when we've completed our October cruise.

  10. We just sailed from San Juan in March. My opinion is that if you do self disembarkation, you will get there in plenty of time for a 9:50 flight. We had the opposite problem. We got there too early and couldn't check our bags. We had to hang out and wait about 45 minutes before checking them.. I think it was no bags checked in earlier than three hours ahead of a flight. We got to the airport about 10:15 and it was very quiet. Crowds started picking up rapidly in the next hour.

  11. Absolutely love the aft cabins on M-class ships. Balcony is huge with both shade and sun. Great big dining table and chairs plus lounge chairs. Close to rear elevators.......perfect! We did not have any problems with soot on Deck 8.

We have never wished to have an aft on the S-class ships because of small balconies, easily viewed from higher decks so privacy is lacking, reports of soot problems from people who've stated in them, and no rear elevators so long walks to get anywhere.

  12. Depends on the itinerary. Transatlantic could be as many as 30%. Five night cruises could be as few as 10%. Nearly every man will be wearing a jacket. There will always be a few who just refuse to follow the dress code, but not many

Many more men than "a few" were without jackets in the MDR on formal nights on my March Summit cruise.

  13. Also the Mast Grill by. The pool for burgers, hot dogs, fries.

Just off the Summit in March. The carpeting outside the Oceanview Cafe on Deck 19 appears very water stained. First saw that in May 2013 and it was the same in March 2014.

  14. I had the Qsine sangria on the Summit in March....delicious, but not covered under the premium drink package. Had to pay the entire $26 for the pitcher. We also had it on the Reflection at the Sunset Bar. They went down to Qsine to get it. This was in 2013, shortly after the ship was launched.

  15. I would also love to see Park West disappear.

I would like a bit more space between lounge chairs on the pool deck.

I would like smoking eliminated completely.

I would like the dress to be smart casual all nights in all venues and it be enforced. I have cruised for many years, loved formal nights when the ambience onboard those nights was elegant and magical. There is such a hodgepodge of dress now that enforced smart casual in the evenings would be an improvement. On a cruise last year my husband and I were sitting at the Martini Bar on a formal night at about 7 PM having a pre-dinner drink dressed in tux and dressy dress, when two men sat down next to us wearing shorts, t-shirts, flip-flops and baseball caps. It felt ridiculous!!!
