  1. The Emerald has multiple saunas. The men's and ladies locker rooms in the exercise and spa area have a wood paneled dry sauna and a tiled steam room. They are free to use by anyone but not co-ed. The men's room sauna was re-paneled during the December 2015 dry dock so it was very nice. I don't know if the ladies room sauna was also refurbished.

The Thermal Spa is an extra cost room that has hot beds and three tiled saunas and steam rooms of different temperatures and aromatherapy. These are co-ed. The cost was $99 per person or $139 per couple for the whole cruise on our last cruise. This room is free for suite guests.

Thermal Suite has gone the way of the Enclave. It use to be just $10 a day and averaged less for the full cruise ($39 for 5 day cruise 2 years go) Why are Solo cruisers now charged more to use? The great thing about the Grand class ships is that Steam/Sauna rooms are still FREE (for how long?). If you can afford the extra cost, by all means enjoy it....But the FREE locker room facilities are more than OK.

One of my dislikes of the Regal/Royal class ships is that you don't have that option.

  2. The question of fairness is regularly discussed & no matter what our opinions are it's Princess who decides what is fair for their repeat passenger benefits whether we agree with it or not.

What is fair is also discussed about Loyalty OBC...it's the same amount whether there are 1 or 2 eiites in a cabin which is how they decide to give us their gift.

Fairness is a solution to your concerns at that particular moment..... which makes you smile:)

  3. The full mini bar is always the same, I have not heard of them splitting it in half.

    Where did you hear that?

Today you have:) A supervisor on the Royal gave me a coffee card, but they never came o pick up the half mini bar.

No way should this be onsidered the standard. It happened for me. Not trying to open a debate whether it is policy. Just stating an experience I had with a nice supervisor on the ROYAL. No need to be confused--my experience, no one elses.

  4. Yes, my DH gets the drink package and I get the mini-bar and our two bottles of wine that we bring on the ship with us. Sometimes I will buy a coffee card. It all works out. :)

That was nice of Princess to change out half the mini-bar for you.:)

The supervisor I spoke with was a very nice lady . They never came for the items...I believe if you give a reasonable person a reasonable solution to a problem, a reasonable outcome will be achieved:) Princess has always been reasonable to me.

But the knock on Princess has always been. Want to receive a different answer, check back every 10 minutes until you get the answer you like.

  5. Im retired and look at myself as a 'Life Style' cruiser. By this, I mean that when I want to get away, my first choice is a cruise :) ive sailed one itinerary 7 times in seven years. At times I will sail because of a great price. Regardless of itinerary. IMHO Being Elite makes things a little nicer. If you have the time and money to cuise often, by all means go for it. If you are sailing on a long (2 week plus) cruise , being Elite has its benefits.

  6. My first cruise as an elite passenger was DH's very first cruise with Princess, so I got to cruise with him 15 times before he made elite.

The mini-bar is a one-time set-up, but you still get two of everything.

I put his laundry in the bag with mine, so he got the free laundry.

He came with me every night to the EPS lounge for cocktails.

He got priority tendering with me.

He had to pay for the wine tasting.

    He got priority embarkation/disembarkation.

He didn't get the 10% off in the gift shops, so I bought everything with my card. It's the same credit card anyway.

He didn't get the free internet until he made platinum.

So yes, your spouse gets treated pretty much like they're elite.

As they should be. :) same experience.

My coffee card experience was what happened for ME, :) no way would I suggest this is the standard. I have plenty of coffee cards and punches left--no need to seek out another reasonable boss :)

    Happy Sailing

  7. I think that most elite benefits can be shared with another passenger sailing with you in the same cabin. The only things I can think about would be they would not receive an invitation to the Princess Grapevine wine tasting, wouldn't get free laundry and no 10% boutique discount.

    Hi Astro,

My wife isn't Elite, when I send out 'OUR' tshirts etc (Never send anything of quality) to the laundry in one bag.....no problem. .....I end up paying for her gift shop purchases:) anyway. I don't drink, DW Rarely--wine tasting a non issue. Every where I go--better yet--wherever she go's, I follow :) I Never give her card status a second thought. Neither should any spouse.

Internet minutes are used to check in on the same family members, 150 or 250 (cruise length) is more than adequate. I actually never paid attention to her card, rarely do I see it. When we are together on the ship, my card is used exclusively, as it should.

    Happy sailing.

P.S. Sailing as a 'Solo' on the ROYAL I found a reasonable Supervisor who agreed that to Receive 30 coffees on 2 cards made no sense. He agreed to swap 1/2 for one coffee card. Happily I accepted the card. Not that it mattered, they NEVER came for the 1/2 mini bar. Which I offered to friends on the last evening

This happened FOR ME, not saying it would happen for anyone else.

Astro, this was when we sailed together.

  8. I'm a big fan of inside cabins. Most of my cruises have been in one, and I've been very happy with them. That said, I'm not sure if I'd like a sideways inside. I've never been in one, but from the photos I've seen I don't like the idea of having the bed right at the door to the cabin. It seems like you would hear hallway noise more, and the hall lights would bleed into the cabin. Plus, my wife likes to take a nap in the afternoon. If I opened the door while she was doing that, it would be easily visible to people walking past the cabin. So in this case, I would prefer an obstructed view cabin.

This is exactly what I've stated. :) I sgree 100%

  9. I dont' mind the catamaran idea.. Really, I'm like pasty white and tend to avoid the sun for longer durations. They don't make SPF high enough, so we like to have a good mix of things to do at ports, like touristy things, maybe some shopping, but especially local restaurants.

We have a great thread going under Regal Princess Oct 27, 2016.....join the conversation there. We have tons of plans and info.

  10. We had a sideways inside on Coral and it did indeed have a hallway into the cabin. We felt it made very good use of space. Sideways insides on other Princess ships also have more usable space. EM

No hallway on the Regal/Royal sideways........entrance door opens one foot from your bed. No bedroom privacy if you have to open the door. Sailing alone, it doesn't matter. Not when I sail with my DW, this is just me, Regular inides to me have better closet space...............IMHO

ANY room you can afford and live with is a great cabin.......I know people that book suites because they have tubs. My sister wont cruise without a balcony, even though she spends hardly any time there.

I once thought I had to have at least a window. Now I book the best value (usually inide) and ive been lucky. Im upgraded 80% of the time.

The moral of cruise life--book early for the best price and cabin.....if you wait, your cabin choices may be limited :)

    happy cruising

  11. I've had both and, of the two, I prefer the inside, side facing cabin on the Royal and Regal. It would be lovely to have a balcony or obstructed view, but if I need to see what's happening outside, I turn on the TV to the bridge cam. I'm a solo-sailor so an inside is always my first choice. Maybe when I win a power ball lottery I'll go back to staying in an Owners suite. LOL

    Maureen

Maureen is my pal, but I really dislike Sideways for one main reason. Once you open your door, your bedroom is exposed to all. And yes it is noisy.

Id feel uncomfortable if my wife is laying in bed and I had to open my door....say I ordered room service at 1am. And a group of late night drinkers passed as I was dealing with the tray. I just dont like the idea of my wife in bed being exposed like that. Call me a silly nilly. Obstructed oceanview are great cabins. You get some sun and some have reasonable views.....no more side ways for me.

  12. Wow... Thanks! I will try to figure that out! We are really excited to be celebrating our 10 year anniversary on board! Just 59 more days!

I have unused coffee cards--I only get a cup on sea days. What I like to do when getting a cup is to see if any Blue card (1st time) Princess cruisers are there . I use my punches to pay for there coffees :) I always hope this enhances their cruise experience and they will choose Princess again.

So don't be surprised if someone does this for you :)

  13. During the day the glass on the sliding door is reflective and you can not see into the room. At night you would close your drapes. When sitting on the balcony you may be seen however people don't stand and gawk at you. They just keep on moving. You can actually see more of them above.

There have been no complaints from people that have stayed in these cabins. I wouldn't be concerned.

No complaints at all? Just a question...How do you know this?

Thought I read a few negative reviews--could have been on a different website. But ill defer to your guarantee.:)

  14. These are great tips. Thank you! DH and I will be on Caribbean Princess in 60 days and this too will be our first experience with Princess! Loving these tips! Thanks!

Don't forget to enter your anniversary in your cruise personalizer. You'll get a nice sign and balloons for your door and a small Princess Chocolate cake (very rich)

May she become your favorite ship also. :)

  15. The Caribbean Princess is my favorite Princess ship. I've sailed on her 11 times so far.

For Sailaway--try Tradewinds Bar on deck 16 over looking the pool...the view is nice and its the middle of the party :)

The Steam/Sauna rooms in the locker rooms are fine and are FREE. IMHO resist the Thermal Suites, price has gone way up. By contrast, the Enclave on the Royal/Regal cost $149 plus depending on the cruise just to use a Steam/Sauna room.

The spa pool has padded loungers and is right below the Sanctuary and is also Free. The Aft pool area hot tubes are usually empty--right below SkyWalkers.

IMHO the left side of MUTS screen on the deck above the pool has light traffic and is a good spot to view a movie and the wind blockers are there. Grab an ice cream cone before settling in.

For me, the best place to see a show is from the first row above the walk way nesr the front of the theater. There is a railing like area in front of your seat to sit your drink on. If you are near the aisles on either side....you can slip out for the restroom without bothering anyone. When you enter the theater, look for the walkwy down front, you'll immediately see why I like this area.

Club Fusion or the Explorer's lounge are nice places to see a show .

    Morning Trivia is aways fun.

    Have a great time.

  16. You are referring to the SEA WALK :)

SkyWalkers is the Club located at the rear of some ships.

YES some cabins can be looked into from the SEA WALK ....IMHO , location is one of the worst onboard.......unless not being able to sit on your balcony without people looking at you or having to keep your drapes always closed while changing or sleeping :D Doesn't bother you.

Seriously, not much privacy there. And its on BOTH sides of the ship.

  17. Ive sailed 9 times in the past 2 years and the only packed ship ive sailed on was the Royal 10 day cruise out of New York in 2014. Mostly the ships have sailed at around 80%. Mostly with retirees like myself. I NEVER cruise during the summer, school holidays or regular family vacation weeks--like Thanksgiving, Christmas, July 4th, Presidents week.. I look for sailings during jan, Feb, first week of march--BEFORE spring break. April, May, Sept, Oct..

Very few--if any--kids over 5 years old during these times. This works for me, especially for east coast sailings.

My Regal 10 day cruise three months ago had a near empty feel. Horizon Court only half open for lunch or dinner. No crowds ANYWERE....my next cruise the end of next month still appears to have 160 plus balcony cabins available. With insides and oceanvews wide open.

A flash sale of cabins at rock bottom pricing can change things in a moment. So it all depends when you sail IMHO.

I could be offered the Owners Sute FREE, with tons of other perks and I would rather jump off a bridge than be on a Carnival ship during july 4th week

Every cruise is different. A little planning could determine if you sail with lots of kids or retirees or some near empty repo cruises--I hunt for the latter:)

    This is IMHO ONLY.

  18. Hi, Roland. My experience ( and it was at least 3 times) is that anyone part if your group, no matter what level, can enter the ship with you, tender with you, use the disembarkation lounge with you and enjoy the nightly platinum/elite lounge with you as long as any drinks are put on your card. As far as the wine tasting, I have given my ticket to a friend and that was sufficient to get him in. I have even gotten permission to have a first time cruiser whom I was traveling with attend the Captain's Circle party with us. All I needed to do was ask the Captsin Circle's hostess. If you want to attend the wine tasting as an observer, I would ask that hostess for permission and I can't see how she/he would refuse. It is never that filled and they no longer give the free shot glasses.

My Buddy, My Pal, My Friend :)

The Two things ive Not experienced on a ship are--Wine tasting (I DON'T drink) and the Art Auction (on a cruise ship:eek:) :D . The rest has never given me a problem. I mainly ONLY ask questions here anymore . The variety of answers are informative and interesting.

I wish Cruise Critic would request a copy of the Regal Princess Cruise Critic Video and post it. It would be a great promotion vehicle for the website and Princess cruises.

  19. I was just on Royal. I got my elite laundry back in one day,

rather than the promised two. Twice.

I have read that on the Regal/Royal original TA there was so

many elites that laundry was slow.

The problem with cruise critic is that someone posts about an

incident that happened once, and then it is repeated as if it

happens every time on every cruise.

Anyone who has been on princess a few times knows ...

the most consistent thing about princess is the inconsistency.

    HIGH Five

Want a different Princess answer, call back in 5 minutes :)

  20. Really? It's a wine tasting, not a glass of wine to go.

It amazes me the lengths that some will go to get something free. Even a crappy glass of wine.

Not to debate what is amazing. I said the 'glass to go' as a piece of humor . I stated in a previous post that I Don't drink  im sorry if my clumsy attempt sailed higher than I expected. As far as free---the next one is on me. Happy sailing.

  21. My husband was elite before me. The answer on the Regal for tendering was that I couldn't go but it was during prime time and on a big ship. Different ship and crew, possibly different answer.

Laundry, only the elite gets to use it. There is obviously a difference between a man's and woman's clothes so they could rightfully charge.

Disembarkation lounge, can't answer since I was platinum and we were all in there.

The grapevine wine tasting was for him. That isn't transferable. You have to have a ticket to go and sit at the table so my husband got his free and I paid for mine.

What about a man that wears unmentionable, unmentionables , :)

One thing about cruising.....ask 10 people about an experience and you might get 10 different stories. Most times while on the same ship. I guess this is how you get to love cruising. If your moments are good ones and you have enough of them......you can barely wait to cruise again. Ive been Elite for only 11 cruises and yes its been enjoyable. Things have changed, ALOT in the last few years. IMHO its still the BEST loyalty level afloat.

    Happy Sailing to all.
