  1. Gem is the last of the 4 sisters to receive major refurbishment ... Jewel in late 2018 (we were on her post-refurb, and ship looked so nice), Jade this year & Pearl last year (I think). Big bit of the refurbishment is changing the bathtub to shower in the Club Balcony Suites. The late 1990's decor (red and a bit garish) all gone. Gem at present is still in Marseille, has about a week to go before she gets out to someplace to get lots of provisions for her transatlantic crossing from Barcelona on Dec 8th. It'll be like a new ship!
  2. D@mn! Several posters here have indeed intrigued me ... we're booked on two B2B on Spirit next May - Vancouver-Seward-Vancouver, and am contemplating on changing it to Seward-Vancouver-Seward. I'm asking @chengkp75 if it is possible for us to do that ... some years back I saw somewhere on this CC that B2B Sew-Van-Sew is not allowed due to something like PSVA. If others have the knowledge, please feel free to post. TIA.
  3. In July 2019 I had to cancel our cruise a week before the sail date due to a severe medical condition. We had NCL insurance. Upon cancelling the cruise NCL refunded all taxes, grats, pre-paid DSCs, excursions, and the insurance refunded the cruise fare.
  4. Add one more cabin to the list: 9115 - it's a sideway cabin close to mid-ship elevators - ideal location! Just found a few more .... Deck 10 - 10069, 10071, 10107. Deck 11 - 11033, 11035, 11069.
  5. Same with back to back cruises on same ship in same cabin - use it or lose it the first cruise - will not be transferred to the second one. You get new set the second cruise.
  6. Ha ha …. We’re in the UK now, flying home to Bermuda tomorrow …. I waited until yesterday, hoping they’d stop with the $40 fee already … but alas no! I went ahead and applied and paid. Got the approval within hours and was able to complete the VeriFLY for the airline. One week late!
  7. No, it was Mariner of the Seas (also 2003). We were there in Dockyard watching Prima dock.
  8. Earlier this year we went on the Joy with our DS and his girlfriend. It was her first NCL cruise, previously been on Oasis/Allure and Freedom. She loved the Joy and said NCL blew RCI out of the water. She said the Oasis/Allure was just too big, and loved the buffet on NCL.
  9. Thought you would enjoy this picture I took just now from my place. Adventure OTS on left and Mariner OTS on right.
  10. An overnight docked in Bermuda is a lot better than a short day in Bermuda! You'll be able to step off ship and view the ship in her lit-up glory at night.
  11. If Prima skips Norfolk and is able to overnight here in Bermuda, she will need to wait until after Mariner of the Seas has vacated the Heritage Wharf berth at 1pm on Wednesday. We’ll be heading to Dockyard on Thursday to ogle at the new ship.
  12. @GeezerCoupleThanks so much!! Our 2 b2b cruises are Vancouver-Seward (24-31May) and Seward-Vancouver (31 May-7 June) and both go to Hubbard Glacier 😁 The ship will be in Seward from 5am to 8pm, and we're looking into taking the NCL train excursion (leaving at 6:45am) to Anchorage airport, take a quick taxi sightseeing tour in city, and then take a bus excursion back to Seward (back on ship at 5:45pm). The latter will take us along the road where the bore tide is. We're hoping that will happen because the NCL train is for the disembarking guests and we're not really disembarking! We're getting excited! The reasons we picked Spirit over the megaton ships are 1) far less people, and 2) longer port hours!!
  13. @www3travelerThank you for your answer! We're booked on two B2B Alaska on Spirit in May 2023, and we had thought it might be a bit too early, but after reading what you said, we are thankful!
  14. …. twin sister NCL ships Pearl and Gem are docked at Dockyard in Bermuda today, next to each other. From our place (in Southampton) across the Great Sound: Pearl on left and Gem at right. Next to them is the sailing vessel “Spirit of Bermuda”. Then we went to North Shore in Pembroke and took more shots : I don’t think I’ve ever seen twin sister ships like that at the same time. Yes, Pearl & Gem are exact sisters as they were the only Jewel class ships with aft Bliss lounge and bowling alleys, and mid-ship shops. The other 2 (Jewel and Jade) have the Bliss lounge mid-ship and shops aft, but do not have bowling alleys.
