  1. Do you have a link to something official? My sister (Diamond) will be taking a short cruise with her granddaughter (not Diamond and over 21) in the fall. My sister is an absolute stickler and she has it in her head they cannot share her drinks that it is treated the same as a drink package. I tried calling to confirm but no one seems to have a clue what I'm asking about. They gave the lame ask on board, go to guest services, etc.
  2. Welcome to Cruise Critic. Interesting you find a topic last visited in May for your first post. I can see laughing at myself, I often do. I don't insult other people because I find their areas of interest ridiculous to me.
  3. Thanks for the link. Much of his musings are almost incomprehensible to me. There could be a lot of humor about the fish out of water aspect of his cruise, instead he decides to insult and put down all he encounters.
  4. I have halfway convinced my DH that we could take a short cruise prior to our spring trip to Florida and Georgia. We will leave our greyhounds (the reason he has not wanted to cruise for many years) with a rescue group in Orlando. I've seen RV's parked in the Royal Caribbean lot in Port Canaveral. What do you know about current rules for oversize vehicle parking? What I've seen on the port parking websites has been clear as mud.
  5. I would never share with my great niece, I think she sleeps in text mode.
  6. However we do it, it only cares that one devise is being used at a time as far as which devises are connected. Then if my sister is checking her emails and I absolutely MUST check tennis scores, we may or may not be able to share my devise. 😁 My cell is a Galaxy S21.
  7. We went back to cruising last November with 2 back to night 4 night cruises on Independence. As Diamond members we each had 2 nights free Zoom on each part of the cruise so no need to buy a package. On our upcoming 8 night cruise we obviously won't have all 8 days covered by our Diamond level. Currently I can purchase a package for $21/day. I've seen on other discussions that if I purchase on board I would get a credit for the 2 gifted days of Zoom. It is almost a wash price wise based on 6 days on board vs 8 days prepay. In your collective CC wisdom do you think it will come down prior to our Dec 7 cruise? Another question for the CC brain trust: When it states one device, is that one at a time. Sometime I use my phone, other my laptop or tablet. Is it smart enough to know the difference? Oh, back in the day I always packed a laptop for work, now that I'm retired I'm considering cutting the tether and only bring my tablet. Yeah, making me shaky thinking about it. If my sister needs to check her emails can I use the hot spot on my phone for her to access her emails if I'm reading on my phone?
  8. I can understand not wanting to be inundated with day visitors if you live there, Charleston has had to deal with similar concerns with much fewer ships. We have been fortunate to have 3 stops there on cruises. At least two of them on the lovely Enchantment of the Seas. For the most part a nice day, especially the day we rented bicycles. With that, I'll never forget the stop when Swine Flu hysteria was sweeping the country. Our first stop on a cruise was Key West, we were in a local shop and the clerk followed us around with Lysol spray!!! I walked around the store just to annoy her. Not my most shining moment. Because of the Swine Flu problem the ship did not go to Cozumel, our next planned stop.
  9. Please direct me to the topic if there is already a link or copy of a sample Izumi menu. We will be on Freedom later this year for 8 nights. The 3 night Specialty Restaurant package sounds like a good deal for us. We dined at Giovani's Table on our cruise last year and not much has changed on that menu since 2018, we've dined at Chops and from the sample menu I've seen, not much has changed there either. I can't find a sample Izumi menu. Oops, found it. Also, if we decide to skip Izumi, can we go twice to the same restaurant on the 3 restaurant package?
  10. I don't need to renew this year, but for my sister and future reference; am I remembering correctly that the passport needs to be good for 6 months beyond your departure date? Second question, can you do online if you're doing a name change due to marriage? Answered, no just renewing. Third question, DH let his passport expire, can he renew online?
  11. Thanks, I told her she could, but she thought it was the same rules as a drink package.
  12. My sister is Diamond and is going on a short cruise with her granddaughter who is Emerald later this year. My sister doesn't drink much, can she share her vouchers with her legal drinking age granddaughter?
  13. I'll check out Park n go. Here is a link to website: https://rightwayparking.com/cruise-parking/port-everglades-cruise-port?gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIg9rWhvGVhwMVGjnUAR13EQ8jEAAYASAAEgIM4PD_BwE
  14. Thanks, our cruise isn't until December and I just started looking. Looks like they've added Port Everglade. We had good luck with the off-site parking in Miami, except for the traffic pile up at the port.
  15. I'm currently researching off site parking for Port Everglades and I noticed on the Rightway Parking website most of the parking services locations have a 2pm closing.
  16. I did 2 partial Panama Canal transits on Princess about 10 years ago. One in the spring with DH and another in the fall with DS. The 14 day cruises taught me my breaking point is about 7 days. Even in our motorhome, about 2 months away I'm thinking about home. I think it is a control issue plus a little claustrophobia. We started out slowly with cruising (lots of 3 and 4 nighters) because I knew how antsy I get when I go to conferences. I start feeling confined after a couple of days.
  17. Love NYC! I'm trying to schedule a visit with my sister, we haven't visited in years. DH and I went to the Open every year for about 10 years. We quit going when it got too crowded. I have great photos of my niece ice skating on the plaza at Rockefeller center and in Central Park. When we lived in Richmond, we went to all the tourist places in the city and around the state. Particularly enjoyed Williamsburg even though I lived there in college.
  18. Don't know if it is still held, every year Richmond hosted the Independence Day celebration at the Dell in Dogwood Park on the James River. The pops band played and the highlight was the 1812 with howitzers, fireworks over the river, and the Carillon bells. Nothing like here at the beach other than fireworks every night all summer. Our trees have grown so much we no longer get a view to the south, only to the north.
  19. If concerned about using the correct keycard, a Sharpie will take care of that problem.
  20. Monarch was okay, but I preferred Majesty. Of the ships in question, if you have children or teens then Symphony. We did one cruise on Oasis, I did not care for the layout. It seemed I could never get from point A to B without having to go through points C & D! Freedom and Independence are our favorite ships.
  21. They're not dropping passengers in the open Caribbean, but one of the inlets. Not a lot of wave action or under tow from my experience at island stops. All bets are off if a storm is passing through. I will get more info because it looks like one of the better excursions I've seen lately. BTW, I know 50 y/o people a lot older than I am.
  22. Thanks, didn't notice we might have to swim to shore. I have no trouble swimming in the Caribbean, the Atlantic where I grew up and live is much more of a challenge. I'll have to track down more info on this particular excursion.
  23. Reading over possible excursions on our December Freedom cruise. I am over 65, my sister is even more over 65, but I don't understand this particular excursion marked as Strenuous. If this is strenuous, sleeping by the pool will be considered moderately strenuous. Overview Enjoy a three-hour and a half, fun-filled boat ride that packs in a coastal cruise of St. Kitts and Nevis, sun-drenched beach time, plus refreshing cocktails and a live steel drum player on board during the Caribbean Sea cruise. A professional captain and attentive crew are ready to welcome you aboard a 96-foot vessel bound for the clear-blue waters off St. Kitts and Nevis. Breathe in the salty island air while gliding along the island's mountainous coast. The boat will then be anchored right off the beach. With 75 minutes free time you can swim in warm, shallow waters or soak up the sun beachside. The return route not only includes more spectacular island scenery, but you'll also sing and dance along to a DJ with popular music, plus enjoy three drink tickets to use towards local beer, rum punch or soda. Highlights Nevis: Swim in turquoise waters, or sunbathe on soft sands, with the boat anchored offshore. St. Kitts: Sip beer and rum punch while swaying along to the soothing rhythms of a live steel pan player and popular Caribbean music. Activity Level Strenuous This tour is not recommended for guests with pre-existing medical conditions such as cardiac, respiratory, or orthopedic conditions, including joint injuries or disease, or any other serious medical condition. Guests must consider their physical fitness level and medical history when determining whether this tour is appropriate. Guests who have concerns must consult with their personal physician before engaging in any activity that may be strenuous for them, particularly those involving water-based activities. Guests should consider their swimming ability when selecting tours involving water-based activities.
