Celebrity Eclipse Sky Lounge closed during 12 day cruise
owensjro replied to quicklabs's topic in Celebrity Cruises
Our Millenium cruise in Japan this summer was also a Park West cruise and the Sky Lounge was "reserved" for a large portion of it. Thankfully a port intensive day so it wasn't too annoying, but we really missed those front of ship views. -
Plastic zip ties to prevent reclining?
owensjro replied to phoenix_dream's topic in Celebrity Cruises
It's pretty sad the length companies have to go for "common sense". I just edited my previous post showing what is probably the cause of the new warning and zip tie. -
Plastic zip ties to prevent reclining?
owensjro replied to phoenix_dream's topic in Celebrity Cruises
Probably not the reason for the zipties, but this is the kind of thing that can lead to fleetwide "safety" changes: https://law.justia.com/cases/federal/district-courts/florida/flsdce/1:2023cv21171/640961/161/ Snippets: "When Plaintiff sat on the chair on the balcony, the locking mechanism gave in causing her to fall backwards, and she hit her head on the sliding glass door.Id. ¶¶ 13, 14. Plaintiff alleges she suffered an immediate paralysis, was unable to move her body or speak, and that she was in extreme pain" "Plaintiff’s negligence claim alleges that Defendant failed to supervise its crew, failed to properly train its crew; failed to provide adequate crew; failed to maintain the vessel; failed to provide adequate balcony furniture; failed to provide safe furniture; and failed to warn about furniture defects." ETA, actually this looks like it totally is the ziptie issue. Found this snippet further down in the case from an update earlier this year: "Plaintiff responds that the record contains “ample evidence of a dangerous condition” namely, the express warning issued directly from the manufacturer to Defendant that the chair is only to be laid flat “for shipping purposes only.” ECF No. [109] at 6. Plaintiff points out the chair manufacturer testified this warning means the chair is not to be lounged on like a chaise. Id.; Zhang Dep. at 61:4-8, ECF No. [92-17]. Despite this express warning to Defendant, its passengers were not warned, including Plaintiff. Moreover, there was no mechanism to prevent a passenger from lying flat, leaving passengers in danger and without warning." -
Westbound transatlantic - Port or Starboard and why?
owensjro replied to Princess Jessie's topic in Celebrity Cruises
We prefer starboard in general simply because of the smoking areas being on the port side and I don't want that ruining my balcony experience. -

We found some nice ones at the Mast Grill as well when we were on a couple of weeks ago. Those two (Passport and Mast Grill) had by far the best selections.

Balance Due and Cancellation notice after you paid in full?????/
owensjro replied to LMHSRN's topic in Celebrity Cruises
Yes, had the excursion issue on an upcoming cruise. 3 weeks now and still no resolution. The excursion was cancelled because supposedly I owed money (even though it was paid in full) AND I have not received the refund. Yet another call to them coming up this week to continue to try to get this escalated and resolved. Currently out ~$390 in OBC. Thankfully I was able to rebook the excursion at a lower rate at least. -
Noo! Next you are going to tell me Duck sauce doesn't contain actual duck! 😉

Do cabin stewards still provide containers for sharps?
owensjro replied to OnTheJourney's topic in Celebrity Cruises
On the Summit a week ago and our room steward actually asked if we needed one during his introduction speech on the first day. -
Strange Bar Closings on Equinox Today in Grand Cayman
owensjro replied to helen haywood's topic in Celebrity Cruises
Yes, we were on the Summit this past week with a stop in GC alongside the Apex. While the Apex apparently was limited service on the Summit we found beer and wine in the OVC (the little areas they setup to serve during lunch), the bar at the back was serving, the Grill had beer and wine out, and both the Pool and Mast bar were open and serving drinks. Note that all of them were only hand-writing the stateroom and checking your card for your package. At all other times I got drinks at a bar they swiped the card. Related? Not sure, but feels like it could be they were working around the restriction... Jim -
Problems with Apex Tendering in Grand Cayman
owensjro replied to egurbi's topic in Celebrity Cruises
We are on the Summit in GC today. We are through tender ticket 30 now. Wonder if the issue is having the Apex, Summit, and two Carnival ships all tendering at the same time. Also happy to report all is normal for bars. The alcohol is flowing "freely" from at least 5 locations We have seen so far. -
OVC Valentine's Day on silhouette - shocking!
owensjro replied to newtocruiseinblue's topic in Celebrity Cruises
This is just another example of the cutbacks on Celebrity. Cakes are the cheapest of desserts. They are the bottom feeders of the dessert world. I hear these are sourced from cake farms in China which is even worse. Or am I thinking of the tilapia? Too many complaints to keep track of. 😉 -
Pool Deck Waitstaff Almost Nonexistent - Equinox
owensjro replied to rclibertygirl5's topic in Celebrity Cruises
We had similar issues on our two DCL cruises in December. Lack of waitstaff in most areas on the ship and the dining team was completely overwhelmed. Full cruises and they clearly weren't staffed for it. -
We were on a sailing shortly after restart and the buffet was quite limited. Halfway through the 11N cruise my daughter was desperate for something "kid-friendly" so we asked the Retreat Concierge if they knew of any place we could get chicken nuggets from on the ship. They coordinated with our Butler and we enjoyed the BEST scratch-made chicken nuggets in our room for lunch one day. It's the little things that make the cruise extra special 🙂

Silhouette 12/5-12/15. The good, the bad, and the weird.
owensjro replied to asnaleah's topic in Celebrity Cruises
We were on the Silhouette a year ago and thought the OV was disappointing but Luminae was excellent. Went on the Summit 3 weeks later and their OV buffet was sooo much better. Tastier food, better variety. We chalked it up to being too early in to the "restart" but hearing that it is still an issue on the Silhouette is disappointing.
