  1. Thank you all. Apologies for being so dim, I feel a bit silly now but I still think it is not a clear way of Carnival to explain things. Maybe a few other Brits will mistakenly see the information as I did so this will help them too if they see this thread.

Glad it will be $100 and not the onboard conversion of £50. That would probably be not much more than $75 at their poor exchange rate, which was what I was thinking it would be. A few free coffee's for us.

  2. "*The onboard credit for Carnival Cruise Lines, Costa Cruises, Cunard and Princess Cruises is determined based on the operational currency onboard the vessel." - copied from Carnival shareholder benefit pdf http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=140690&p=irol-sharebenefit

Thanks Salicia. That is what I saw but I seem to be confusing everyone, let alone myself:o. I think I have got it now. The $100 or £50(for the length of my cruise) isn't down to where we live but down to which currency is used onboard the ship. Are there cruise lines that use £'s as their onboard currency?

  3. Hi Colin from Lancashire, is that near Halifax (wink! Wink!). I don't think I would be able to say the name as it would be advertising but I did just register through my bank which had a dealing service......the bank is also the name of a place in Yorkshire. There was a small charge for the service but it worked out v competitive.

Oops, looks like I did advertise. Never thought, and now too late to edit. I wish they didn't have the time limit set for editing. This is the only site I have come across it and it can be annoying, even for a spelling mistake you don't notice till coming back on the site, too late to correct it. I will wait for my slapped wrist or whatever punishment will be handed out.

  4. I gave the amount for our cruise length and the OBC says $100 or £50. It wouldn't need to say a £ amount if everyone got the $100 would it? It was just the difference in the 2 that I was querying. With it saying the amount would be converted on the ship I presumed as we are Brits then we would get the £50 converted to $'s, which wouldn't be $100. So you are saying that it would be $100 for the length of cruise(we are on a 9 night) and forget the £50?

  5. Bought our shares this morning and about to get the info sent for the Princess OBC. When we have paid in fun we will apply for our December QV cruise.

Can anyone tell my why the difference in the OBC amount between US and UK stockholders? On the form from Princess it said the £50(that we will be entitled to) will be converted on the ship, so I guess a poorer rate:rolleyes:. Certainly won't be the $100 the US folk receive. Just wondered.

  6. Oh goodness, I hope you don't have to come across her again. Seems the 'oldies' are much better mannered than she is but she can't see that. Yes, I agree that she will probably be enjoying the limelight and continuing her ageist comments to all her friends. If she has any that is. If not the toyboy will have to do.

  7. Thank you both:). Posted this and then saw Capt's post. Thank you. I wonder if there is someone like Karen who is as helpful at Princess's offices. Makes a difference.

  8. HI. I didn't want to start yet another Carnival shareholder thread but wanted to ask a question.

As you need a copy of a statement(and cruise booking number) to apply for the OBC, how long does it take to receive your first statement after buying shares? We have Princess and Cunard cruises during and after October and wonder if we would have time for things to be processed.

    Many thanks.

  9. Just finished reading the whole thread. How fascinating it has been and also sad to see how the graves have deteriorted over the years. It feels kind of sad to know that. These two ladies have at least been remembered for a few years due to Caribbean 2000's explorations and interest causing him to begin the thread. I am sure he would have no idea it would still be being replied on and encouraging others to make the hike to find the graves. I know he has commented occasionally over the years so maybe again he will post a reply. I hope so.

  10. Does anyone know if we can ask our room steward to keep our suite door closed while cleaning?

The reason I ask is because I have read about several thefts occurring onboard and I also don't want other passengers peering in to see what a suite looks like (we are in PH Caribe midship, I would assume Aft suites afford more privacy).

I am not sure they would do that but I share your concerns. Though I have never actually entered one, I have had a good look from outside a suite as I have been passing. Goes for all the different room categories actually, but yes, the higher level suites are much more interesting and it is good to know if you would want to book one.

I would never enter a room but who knows about someone else. Depending on the suite and where the bathroom is, the steward could be busy in there and not know if someone was in the suite who shouldn't be, but I don't think it could happen if the bathroom is close to entry door. Of course occasionally the room steward might go out quickly to get something and not close the door but they shouldn't be doing that.

  11. Actually, you should get two cruise credits for each segment. One for the segment and one for being in a suite.

Speak with the Captain's Circle host during the second segment to be sure you get the four credits.

I hadn't thought about that. I guess I want the benefits for 2 cruises and the benefit for it being 1:D.

We received the free crown grill dinner on our 4 night out of LA - San Pedro. Pleasantly surprised

    Good news!

  12. The short cruises out of Florida did not get the free specialty restaurant, but those out of California did. This was on the Ruby for the January 2014 promo, but same promo in Calif. got it.

Ah well, we will ask and see. Thank you.

In our case it was marketed as individual cruises, and that was the way we booked it. Sabatinis for breakfast was very enjoyable. I did not think we would get the first night dinner...but felt would not hurt to ask. It didn't, they very nicely said no, said it had to be 6 days or over. We had so much onboard credit with those three back to back, we ate at the Crown Grill on us!;)

We do not normally do the short cruises, but could not resist those. And we were in Fort Lauderdale, so did not need to fly anywhere.

    Enjoy your 9 day.

We are the same as short cruises seem different somehow, apart from the shortness. But, we had a large credit to use up by the end of this year(or have a booking), hence the suite;), and this fit into our overall plans very well.

We will ask about the meal and see but it isn't the end of the world as I said before. I struggle with eating large meals and red meat, but I have read their steaks are great and that would be nice for John.

  13. Same situation we had. Makes no difference.

If it was marketed to some as a B2B then it will be a 5 day and a 4 day.

I assume you will want two cruise credits, correct?

    Mike:)

Well it would be good to have those and the 1st night dinner;). I was thinking though that we would end up with neither the 2 cruise credits nor the 1st night meal anyway:confused:.

  14. I had to abruptly leave before I could edit my post. Yes, I've been away from the internet since then...wow!

One more small perk. They print you personalized stationary. Not sure how many folks actually look in the room folder.

I once ordered fish and chips on pub day. Room service didn't like that much, but it arrived hot since I was in a window suite and the Crown Grill was just outside my door. Better than standing in that long line.

We are in a window suite so the fish and chips sound a great idea for room service. We live in Yorkshire, UK, the home of fish and chips so always good to see what they taste like elsewhere. We have take out fish and chip shops all over the country, but they first came from Yorkshire. I might just send John over to the Crown Grill on pub day to bring a take out back to the cabin:D

  15. But in our case, and some others I would think, the cruise is 9 nights, not 4 and 5 B2B, as it was advertised as a single cruise with it's own number. Philjim, did you book the 3 segments as 1 cruise or as separate ones?

It isn't a real problem if it they say no but in case we felt like dining there when we embark. If it is Sabatinis then we wouldn't bother anyway.

Yes, I am looking forward to the breakfasts there Phyljim.

  16. I actually printed out the page that says free internet and I'm planning to bring it with me in hopes that they will have to honor what THEY put in writing! Cruising out on the Royal Princess this Saturday after being upgraded to a suite due to overbooking..... Can't wait!!

I did too. I was quite excited about free internet and wanted to show my husband. A print out is easier than finding the actual page online. Shame it was a mistake.

I doubt it will make a difference taking it with us on the cruise though:(
