  1. I thought I had read *somewhere* that the Seafood Shack had already opened on the Carnival Valor -

but that doesn't show on the Valor page on the Carnival website

Can someone who has sailed recently tell me if there actually IS a Seafood Shack on the Valor and which deck it is located on?

    Thanks much!:)

  2. There is a free Fitbit phone app for smartphones you can "try before you buy." I have a friend who has done this about 3 weeks, and has decided he needs to buy! Since he had a smartphone already and the app is free, he had nothing to lose but the 12 lbs he's lost!

What is the name of the app? I'm considering a Fitbit and would like to try this before purchasing

  3. So you booked the Breakaway blindly without any questions, and looking at any pictures, videos or reading reviews? in the age of technology, information is readily available. everything we want to know right at our fingertips. I didn't realized folks still did that anymore. interesting.

It didn't occur to me to list the variety of activities I undertook before booking my NCL Getaway cruise. I did not blindly book the breakaway class ships. As the Getaway had not even sailed yet there were not many reviews of the ship. However, using the age of technology at my disposal, I did ascertain that it is a sister ship of the Breakaway and thus spent time perusing reviews and information on the Breakaway, plus viewing the available photos on the NCL site.

As I am not a gambler, I did not choose to read any reviews on the casino, casino setup, or casino issues. The many reviews I did read regarding the Breakaway did not raise flags for me regarding smoking issues. I did not know of smoking issues until a recent post on the live chat for the Getaway where the CEO was asked specifically about the issues on smoking concerns.

I was simply try to convey that everyone may not know that it is common knowledge that the breakaway class ships are considered smoking. I am not worried about the smoke odor as I can always choose to avoid those venues that are affected. As I stated earlier, I am interested the Getaway's variety of venue options available - not that is strictly a non smoking ship.

  4.

don't people understand BEFORE they book an NCL cruises especially (epic, breakaway, getaway) that these are smoking ships. by design its in your face. so that means at SOME point on a cruise smokers are smoking and you will smell the some smoke. we know smoke will travel...right?

I may be in the minority here - but I did not know BEFORE booking my cruise that the NCL breakaway class is considered smoking by its design. I honestly do not decide on a specific ship or cruise line based on its casino, location or design. Rather I look for overall ship amenities and ports. The Getaway sounded intriguing due to the multiple venues available.

I expect smoking in a casino; however, I am used to have a nonsmoking environment in restaurants. Am I concerned that smoking odors permeate a myriad of venues on the ship? Certainly. What concerns me more is NCL's understanding that it permeates these areas and, from what I am reading, a seemingly disregard of that understanding until there is an influx of passenger complaints. (I could be mistaken - I am only going by what I have read recently on this board)

This issue could have easily been rectified during construction of the Getaway by including more air handlers/purifiers - it seems that passengers aboard the Breakaway have been complaining a tad about this issue. I

That being said, smoke odor will not deter us from enjoying our cruise and the NCL experience. If it bothers us personally, we will simply refrain from venues that are affected by the odor of smoke. Hopefully, this will not be an issue for us - if it is we can simply choose another cruise line for our next cruise vacation. I doubt if NCL would even miss us! ;)

  5. Cut, Paste, Laminate...

Seems like a lot of effort.

Maybe it would be easier to just pick up one of the free pocket guides that they give away at check in?

You are correct - I certainly could use one of the free pocket guides!

Personally, I just prefer having the venue information summarized and on a single, small reference sheet. The free pocket guide is a great resource, but I don't really need the graphic of the ship, phone numbers, ship highlights, or tips. Just my preference!
