  1. Dragging your cruise luggage, and simply walking from point A to point B, are two different things. You like to be frugal. We get it.
  2. Ohhh you’ll be there for the Christmas markets. Lucky you!
  3. Totally disagree with this advice. I don’t know where in NYC you lived, maybe you’d care to share. When visiting NYC, you want a safe, convenient area. The location is fine for this hotel. It’s a boutique hotel on a quiet block. I’ve been to the Haven Rooftop which is in this hotel. It’s not a seedy hotel.
  4. River Cruising gives you an amazing amount of free time. If you don’t want to follow the guides when you get to the point of interest, just let them know. They’ll give you directions where to meet for the bus back. Or how to get back on your own. I’d recommend the Danube to try RC if you like to independently travel. Do a precruise in Budapest independently. Then a post cruise in Munich independently.
  5. You only need a couple of basic clothes for touring. They sell Travel friendly clothes that are wrinkle proof and you can wash and dry in the sink. Worth the investment. Chicos and Athleta two major brands. If it’s the warmer months they sell travel skirts. I always change after touring. I like to dress up a little and be fresh from a shower before dinner after touring all day. But the same theory holds. A pair of black slacks, a few dressier tops. Even a top with bling. A skirt and a dressy shawl scarf works too.
  6. The area is the Financial District. Very safe. You can walk to World Trade Center and South Street Seaport from here.
  7. The neighborhood is ok. If you weren’t with your 80 yo Mom I’d say walk to Hudson Yards and the High Line. It’s really not near anything when you walk out the door. If you’re just using it to stay one night before the cruise it should be fine.
  8. I would get hotel closer to 6th Ave. Maybe the Hilton or Sheraton? Then you can also walk to MoMA and Rock Center. You can also walk over to the edge of Central Park by the Plaza Hotel.
  9. Hi. Thank you for posting about this. Did you use Uniworld for the pre tour of Milan and Lake Como? I’m seriously considering this trip.
  10. If you want Brooklyn, Marriott Brooklyn Bridge is safe, but price is on the higher end. Try Doubletree Financial District for a reasonable Manhattan hotel. It’s very safe there.
  11. I looked it up to be sure. Mustang Harry’s. 352 7th Ave in Midtown. It’s the official Husker bar in Manhattan. Certain bars host certain teams.
  12. This is a good choice but remember the traffic is always horrific with motorcades with the UN. But if you come up Westside Hwy should be fine unless VIPS are arriving or departing EWR it might affect that.
  13. Try around Rockefeller Center. Still walkable to sites, public trans and restaurants but the VIPs won’t be in that area. There’s a Raddison on W 51 and a Hilton on W 54
  14. The location is fine for what you have planned. It’s a safe area. Walkable to Columbus Circle area where there are all types of restaurants. Walkable to Central Park. You can walk to Top of Rock if you’re used to walking less than a mile.
  15. Use your live GPS such as Google maps day of! That is the only correct answer dealing with NYC traffic.
  16. I would do LGA. It’s all a crapshoot these days.
  17. I’m confused. I always check in early. The earlier you check in, the less likely you will be bumped from a flight. You are even more likely to be bumped by the type of ticket Regent provides. They purchase bulk rate seats, you have less rights with those type of seats.
  18. Yes you have to check in, check in your luggage and get your boarding pass.
  19. Hmmm. I’d say go for it but keep your fingers crossed. You’re traveling on a weekday during rush hour and school is back in session. Make sure you let the desk know you have a flight to catch.
  20. I once had a cruise when there was a big bike race. The limo driver took the George Washington Bridge and then 12th Ave Straight down. We were with my elderly parents so the LIRR and cab would be too much walking for them. But I think LIRR is a good idea.
  21. Www.Dial7.com Look on the website for coupons.
  22. Lois, love your attitude! Nothing a mudslide can’t fix! Maybe not the vacation you envisioned but you’re making the best of it.
