  1. I just saw the conference a little while ago.  As others have said, it is a confirmed case from a person that returned from the Carnival Valor. they also said he may have been in a group.

My daughter told me they have put a hold on all cruises temporarily.  is this correct? I havent heard that yet.

I am in Columbus, and the stores have been crazy for the last few days.

Even if you aren't a person that panics, those that are, are emptying the shelves.  So those of us that arent, have to go to make sure we get things before its gone.  I am pretty prepared now.  I finally found some purell at 6am.

Everyone, stay safe.... we will be fine as long as we follow the good advice that has been given us...

Was that really happening or did someone just post braggingly on CC that they did this?  Doesn't make sense.  Carnival had a 150% solo supplement, so if 2 solos booked 2 cabins, they were essentially paying 3 fares. If they stayed in the same cabin, they only paid for 2.  Why pay an extra fare, say $500, for a little more space?

I cruised solo on Carnival many times when they had the 150% solo fare and never met anyone on board doing the 2 person/2 cabin booking.

Yes, this was happening.  And yes, more than a couple people posted here that they did this.

They did it for the space.  Many people did this.

If the cabin booked was 500 (250pp) solo would pay 375. for that cabin with the solo supplement. So they could get two adjoining cabins, sometimes connected with a door inside, for 750.    This gives them double the space which is nice.  However Carnival would be losing because if they were able to book both cabins at full fare, they would be getting 1000. If would be a loss for them. No wonder they stopped doing it.

Having taken a dozen solo cruises on Carnival in the past five years, I can tell you that they're doing the same old thing for solos - almost nothing.  The poorly defined, poorly attended singles mixers are still there, but they haven't added anything else specifically for solos.  Indeed, they took one thing away - there were occasionally bookings available with a lowered or no single tax.  I haven't seen those for some time.

They took this away when people that normally book 2 in a cabin decided to take advantage of it and book two side by sides solo. This gave the cruisers twice as much room for about the same price. It also cost Carnival because they were then getting the rate of one cabin to cover two. This selfishness on the cruisers part cost those that cruise solo that advantage.

  4. if a cabin is  booked at a Casino rate, and something comes up that the person that booked it can't go and the others in the cabin don't qualify for casino offers, what happens to the others booked in the cabin? does it get cancelled at the port if the person no shows? Haven't had this happen and hopefully, never does. This is something to consider when booking if only one person has the casino offer.

  5. Trust me, I have been on here for years, and there was a point where the nasty remarks bothered me... but i have learned that's their problem, not mine... I am here for the fun, and of the good information we get from members on the boards...  we just have to ignore those type of comments... because a lot of times, not necessarily this time, but a lot times, those that post like that enjoy the fact that it gets someone stirred up...

    Whatever...

Really? It doesn't take some kind of Sherlock Holmes type of detective work to figure out that she mis-read the question!

Seems to me that you are just trying to be mean and snarky! You exemplify everything I have grown to hate about Cruise Critic!

Dont let one persons reply make you hate cruise critic.  There are tons of people that post here that give friendly replies, and replies with some very good info.

  7. i have only done this excursion once.  And maybe it was me, but the only beache i found was the one that is more of a lagoon, where the stingray excursion is located. It had currents that you had to be careful of, or you would get pulled out to sea.  Did I miss something? We enjoyed the food and hammocks. But as much as we love beaches, that was not idea of fun, fighting a constant current.

Are there other beautiful beaches there that we missed ???

  8. I believe I read someone on the boards here that Carnival was going to be building a new cruise port there. Not sure when that's going to happen now... Once the people and the destruction are taken care of, which will possibly take months, if not years, it would be nice to have a different place to dock.

HMC is South of Eluethera, well South of Nassau.

thanks, I was checking out a map.. and just wasn't sure if the path went through there.

Looks like it will be okay... at leastthrough this one.. there does appear to be another something brewing and heading our way from off the coast of Africa.. yikes... hopefully it takes a quick turn northward staying over water...

Looking at the storm's path so far, Amber Cove was unaffected.  I have friends building a house on Middle Caicos Island just north of Grand Turk and they told me their place wasn't hit, so I'll wager that GT escaped as well.  Someone else may contribute an update on HMC, as I don't remember where in the chain of Bahamanian isles it lays - thinking it's closer to GT than Nassau, neither of which had any major storm issues.  Anyone know for sure?

    Enjoy your cruise.

thank you for the quick response 🙂😂

from looking at a map,  Grand Turk is near the Dominican republic. I forgot that Amber Cove is on the Dominican republic.  Half Moon Cay is out to the right and down from Nassau... but not near the Dominic Republic.

I have been searching different boards and can't find the answer... I know Carnival has cancelled some stops at Nassau and Half Moon Caye for current sailings.. this is why I am wondering if it is affected... Hopefully not. It is a beautiful island and looking forward going there...

However, the safety of the people on all the islands are much more important than the cruise.

  12. The last cruise I went on was a getaway premier cruise with casino cash.  My current cruise coming up is Premier 6 day on Magic.

It is showing fun play.  I was told it could be cash, chips, or put on a Players card to use in the casino.  I don't do slots. Only tables.

If they put it on a card, how do use it at the tables?

Also, what time do the casino cages open on sailaway day?

Good morning Cruise Critic family. Does anyone have updates regarding the Carnival Ecstasy which departed Jacksonville, Florida on Saturday August 30, 2019? They are in the path of the Hurrican.

There is a possibility Carnival Ecstasy will not be able to return to Jacksonville on Thursday.  If the port is closed, the ship will be in position to dock as soon as the authorities have reopened the port.

The above is copied from the Carnival website.  If you go to Carnival.com there is a link at the top for Dorian updates.  It appears this ship left on 8/31, not 8/30. The update for the 9/5 sailing is noting that it may possibly not be able to dock on 9/5.  And therefore, the 8/31 sailing would be maybe be extended or brought into another port.

Hope this helps with the info you are looking for.

    Check on Carnival.com for updates.

  14. I will be on the magic in a couple of weeks.  Does anyone know if Half Moon Cay was affected by Dorian?

it appears that Grand Turk wasn't it... not sure about Amber Cove.  These are our three destinations. I have done many cruises during Hurricane season.  Once, we were rerouted to Western only to have a hurrcane and tropical storm develop in area as well. There were 3 active hurricanes and one tropical storm going on during that cruise. We did have to come back through the tropical storm..  very nerve racking.

The situation on Grand Bahama Island is so sad.... I just can't imagine what the people are going through with such castastrophic winds and rain... prayers for everyone in this storms path.

  15. I think another thing people should keep in mind is what kind of fare you booked. For instance if you are new and the person that booked the cruise is a past guest and booked at a past guest rate... could that make you have to pay more upon boarding? Would you be forced to give up the cabin?

Or if the person booked under a special rate, such as casino, and no one else in the cabin has that rate,  and they cancel, would the same thing occur?  Lots of ifs and buts to catagorize it in one way.

There's no way for passengers to link bookings just for dining purposes online. That has to be done through Carnival. Clicking on the "Manage another booking" link on your account does just what you've experienced. It allows you to manage multiple bookings at once, not link them for dining. I don't know if you can reach any special departments. Just call a regular CSR and tell them what you want, emphasizing that you want to make sure neither are accidentally cancelled.

i tried this and they told me they cannot remove the link of the other cabin from my booking.  They said they can remove my link from their booking which makes no sense. And also hasnt been done.  The other thing is when i log on their booking is listed as stateroom booking number 1.  I think because of this link, and the fact that they took an upgrade, which is fine,  i will not get an upgrade offer.  Also, I told them we linked only for dining purposes. So their shouldnt be an issue with removing their link to my cabin.  So does this mean we are not linked for dining?  thanks for the replies
