  1. Reminds me of the "art" on U-Haul Vans. I prefer the clean - all white hull.

Ha, I had never thought it the U-Haul vans until I read your comment! So true!

I have yet to see a Princess ship in person that has been repainted with the bow hair, but from the pictures, it looks very distinctive. Definitely can’t confuse a Princess ship with any others now, or at least once they have all been repainted.

And No, they should not have U-Haul art on the bows, especially since Princess ships really do travel the world versus staying in a set region. Does NCL repaint the bow every time a ship changes homeports?

  2. We will be on the Regal on Veteran's Day and I was wondering if Princess does anything for the veterans on board. I hope they do as it would be really nice if Princess recognized them in some way.

I was on the Caribbean Princess last year for Remembrance /Veterans Day. There were baskets out with poppies and there was a function in the main theater with several of the ship’s officers. They read stories, poems, amongst other things. It was a very touching event - there were not many dry eyes in the packed, standing room only, theater (yes, the seats were full and folks were standing in the aisles and stairways). It is probably one of the few events I have attended over the years that I will always remember. Granted, the event may differ from ship to ship, but the Caribbean Princess’ Officers and CD did a wonderful job putting it together. I believe there was a post here on CC about it.

And please remember that Remembrance Day/ Veterans Day is indeed international. It is only named Veterans Day in the US, which puts the US name in the minority.

  3. If they provided soft fluffy towels they would disappear into suitcases as quickly as they put them in the cabins. Besides that, manufacturing them like sandpaper makes them last a few years before they need replacement.

Hey now, those sandpaper towels bring back fondish memories of my old Army issue OD green towels. The more you wash them, the softer they get. And I swear they will still be in one piece, fluffy as ever, long after I’m gone!

  4. We really enjoyed our 8 day to the ABCs on the Caribbean Princess. Was our first on Princess too (of hopefully many, many more to come).

I doubt they will divert all the way to the ABCs though, especially if even a few of your scheduled ports are open.

  5. You are on an 8-nighter, only one more night than typical. They cannot sail all the way down there and back in a week unless they have a ton of sea days.......

It's the 10-day trips in Caribbean that normally get down to the southern islands.

    Good luck with your trip.

I just did an 8 day last fall that went to all three ABCs. That is a normal 8 day cruise, although it is only offered occasionally. There are 3 more sailings this year with the same ports and at least a half dozen next year as well.

  6. I agree they have fairly decent prices but the outstanding job part.... lol I haven't had that experience at all. I won't bore people with true stories about their incompetence and lack of professionalism. When there's a problem they just shrug their shoulders..... they can't be fired.

Use the Post Office for valuables at your own peril.

As a Federal Employee, I take extreme offense to your statements. You cannot paint an entire organization as incompetent and unprofessional based upon a few instances, by a few employees. And the statement about them not being able to be fired is just flat WRONG. Federal employees can be fired, for many reasons. It is just a little more complicated than your boss walking into your office and saying "You're Fired!", about the same as any union job.

Back to the OPs question, you won't find a post office open on Sunday, I would check the UPS Store's hours online, which may be extended due to the holiday season. Good luck, have a great cruise!

  7. We've sailed 6 or 7 times with Carnival and we just got back from our first Princess cruise earlier this month (8 day on the Caribbean Princess). A coworker convinced us to give Princess a try as we were tired of the "same ole same ole" on Carnival.

We too usually sailed in suites on Carnival, but went with a Mini Suite due to no suite availability (they were long sold out when we booked) and we were not disappointed (although I think the full suites have some GREAT perks, expanded room service, possibly dining room menu in room, not sure).

The differences in the cabins seem minor, although the Mini suites and up have full bathtubs and all cabins have an actual refrigerator, not the iced over minibar fridge that we were used to on Carnival. Having been used to the Grand Suites and Vista Suites on the Fantasy class and Spirit class, the Mini suite was more than adequate with a lot less wasted space (giant floor spaces, etc). The decor is much more subdued than on Carnival, very pleasing, not jump out at you.....

The food, well, in my opinion, the food on Princess just seemed better all around - minus the pizza, we did prefer the pizza on Carnival. The buffets are MUCH better managed on Princess and seemed to have a better variety than what we ever found on Carnival. Not to mention table service for your drinks, whether from the bar or just coffee, juice, etc. I think, other than when we sat at the actual bar, I never approached a bar to get a drink, there were always bar waiters around, not pestering you mind you, but it was extremely quick to get a drink.

The passengers, well, we were expecting a more mature (if not older) crowd, and we were not disappointed, at all as the crowd was older and much more mature than what we were used to. We are in our mid to late 30s and we had a great time. I can only count ONE instance of someone, anyone, acting "crazy", and that was a parent and child running down the hallway one evening - apparently they were late for an appointment somewhere, but they were running while apologizing for doing so.

I did notice there were a few daily overhead announcements, but nothing like what we had come to expect on Carnival, "Bingo time" "Casino is open" etc etc - oh, and no "Woo Hoo" from the cruise director, if you know which CD on Carnival I mean.

The Piazza (the Atrium) is more than a bar at the bottom of the glass elevators, it is truly a place to hangout, grab a bite to eat, a glass of wine, etc, and even enjoy a show (acrobatics, piano, strings, etc).

Oh, we NEVER felt crowded, well, except during Bingo, which coincidentally was held at the same time as Happy Hour in the largest lounge. But, we got there early, snagged a table and still had a great time. And there seemed to ALWAYS be something to do, and I don't mean hairy chest and cannonball competitions at the pool, of which I don't think there were any..... or if so, we didn't notice.

All in all, we thought that even though the price was more, it was well worth it, even though the Mini suites go for around what a grand suite does (or did) on Carnival. If we have to pay a premium for a more relaxed vacation, with much better service, so be it. We enjoyed Princess so much, we booked the 28 day RT through Hawaii and Tahiti for 2018....
