We did not do the Transylvania pre extension. Only one night for us in Bucharest . They picked us up and did a bus tour of Bucharest while our luggage was conveyed to the ship. The luggage was in our room when we arrived later in the afternoon. As part of the tour we went to the Village museum, which was interesting. FYI I have just posted a review of our trip.

BlueonnetTexan, we just arrived back home after a wonderful River cruise with Viking from Bucharest to Budapest. The water levels were fine and there was never a mention of low water levels on the Danube as far as we went. Mind you the ship was continuing as passengers were embarking for the cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam. Many of our cruise friends were continuing, as fifty of us left the ship in Budapest.

Thank you for your informative posts on the water level of the Danube. We are set to leave for Bucharest as our Viking cruise from Bucharest to Budapest on the Vidar is set to leave on June 28. Hoping our cruise doesn’t turn into a bus trip! Do you have any idea how the Danube is doing down at that end of the river?
