Transatlantic… how much wine????
leaveitallbehind replied to RRTcruiser's topic in Royal Caribbean International
1992 Sovereign was our first and second. We also cruised on Majesty a couple of times. I digress, but back then they also published a guest list booklet with the passengers names and towns they were from for a given itinerary that was in the staterooms. Back then they were remarkable ships! -
Transatlantic… how much wine????
leaveitallbehind replied to RRTcruiser's topic in Royal Caribbean International
You're preaching to the choir. It would seem that a lot of things that don't make a lot of sense could with a little effort. Just suggesting one idea as to why they may not do it with the terminal staff. But it has to start with the cruise line's willingness to adjust things. I just don't see that happening as that would also cut into their on board revenue stream. -
Transatlantic… how much wine????
leaveitallbehind replied to RRTcruiser's topic in Royal Caribbean International
That's assuming RCCL wants to apportion wine bottle volume based on itinerary days, which given the current policy and time that it has been in place, doesn't seem too likely. And IMO given the history of what can and cannot be brought on board, and in consideration of the beverage package options, they likely see any wine brought on board as a generous concession. The other possible difficulty may be in the fact that none of the people involved with luggage check, security check, or counter check in agents, are cruise line employees. Being all third party contractors may pose complications on which day, which ship, which amount of wine? They may not want to be bothered. I don't know..... -

Your 4 daily beverage vouchers provide for a 20% discount on the purchase of wine bottles over $100, and 40% discount on wine bottles under $100. See footnote #6 on the second page of the attached C&A Benefits pdf. Crown & Anchor Benefits.pdf -
Transatlantic… how much wine????
leaveitallbehind replied to RRTcruiser's topic in Royal Caribbean International
And there was a time pre-beverage packages when there were very few restrictions. I recall one cruise years ago out of Puerto Rico in particular where our cab driver stopped at a store en route from the airport to the cruise terminal so I could buy a case of beer, which we carried on with us. They then restricted all beverages. Then it was hit or miss on water and soda. When the beverage packages commenced, they wanted all in the stateroom to buy it. They also at one point then allowed for single purchases, but that reverted back to all rather quickly. Then the wine was allowed. At times with or without a corkage fee. It has been an interesting evolution regarding what and how much can and cannot be brought on board over our 32 year cruising history with RCCL! Making sense of fair or not fair just adds to the confusion. -
Yes - regular, decaf, and hot water for tea. Set ups for all adjacent to the servers.

Power outlets for inside cabins on Beyond (Edge Class)
leaveitallbehind replied to horseymike's topic in Celebrity Cruises
Sorry I can't help with your question as to the exact outlet locations, but just want to add for you and others (you likely are aware of this) that Celebrity will provide all of the necessary set up for your cpap and will have it waiting in your stateroom, or will have it delivered on boarding day, for you with advance notice. You can also request it through guest services after boarding if not in advance.- 1 reply

One other alternative to consider is with renting a Twizy, which is a small enclosed tandem seating vehicle. The attached link is to a company that provides guided tours with these vehicles. They are rather small and the back seat can be cramped, but they are fun and the tour is good. If you google it there is also a site that rents them independently. Just a thought. https://www.roadrunner-bonaire.com/

Questions Re bringing bottled water, soda and wine onboard
leaveitallbehind replied to Luvcrusn's topic in Celebrity Cruises
Yes, two bottles of wine, water, and soda have never been an issue with us. -
Radiance and hiding ducks?
leaveitallbehind replied to surgie's topic in Royal Caribbean International
I guess if rules are not at least attempted to be enforced they will be tested by those who don't respect them, so part of the failure is with those who don't enforce them. That still doesn't make it right to ignore them. But to each their own in choosing which to follow and which to ignore. -
Niagara Falls, AMTRAK etc
leaveitallbehind replied to miaandmum's topic in Royal Caribbean International
My mistake and good catch. The FL departures don't start until November from MIA. Also similar itineraries as Anthem from Port Liberty. That certainly clarifies the OP's question. -
If you booked through a TA they can request it for you. If you booked on line I'm not aware of how to do it afterwards on the app or otherwise, other than to call Celebrity with your booking number and request it through them.

Niagara Falls, AMTRAK etc

Except that it would also then require transportation from NYC to FLL to board the ship. But if one is arriving from the UK by way of NYC, your thoughts could be correct. Maybe the OP can clarify. -

Especially when Symphony is doing Bahamas itineraries then! I'm a bit confused. -

Really? If it is a stated rule it should be respected as such. Just because it may be difficult to enforce doesn't mean it can be ignored. -
Wasn't familiar with that one. Thanks. I was referring to the old cruise fish.

There used to be a website that was third party and tracked most of the cruise lines and was very effective as a tool. Unfortunately that site no longer exists and just about the only way to do so now is to periodically do a mock booking of your itinerary to look for price changes. Or trigger that by new promos and sales. If you booked through a TA and they are good that way, they could also periodically check for you. But basically you are on your own as the cruise lines won't do it as with the hundreds of thousands of bookings they manage it would be an impossible task. Not to mention the business fact that they would not want to voluntarily give up revenue.

You are correct, Freedom is a very large ship and 18 years ago was the largest cruise ship afloat. But the 76' difference in length is only one rather insignificant measure in the difference in size with Symphony. Symphony has a gross tonnage of 228,000 tons with a maximum passenger capacity of over 6,600 guests. Freedom has a gross tonnage by comparison of 156,000 tons and a maximum passenger capacity of just over 4,500 guests. The differences are rather significant IMO. Symphony is quite a bit larger by those measures. Although they share many of the same venues, the layout and design of Symphony is completely different from Freedom. I only say this for the OP as by comparison, IMO they are apples to oranges.

Dietary restrictions-Excel class vs. oasis class
leaveitallbehind replied to Twinsplus1's topic in Ask a Cruise Question
Those options should also exist in the buffet, which on Oasis class ships is quite large and diverse in its offerings. Oasis class ships also have a Solarium Bistro which has a lot of alternatives as well and is n/c, except for dinner. Again, confirming through your TA and on board at any venue should allow for alternatives to be available. Should you choose any of the specialty restaurants a discussion with each will let you know what options you have there as well. In general I don't think you'll have any difficulties with your dietary restrictions. -
Dietary restrictions-Excel class vs. oasis class
leaveitallbehind replied to Twinsplus1's topic in Ask a Cruise Question
Have never sailed Carnival so I cannot speak to that, but have sailed RCCL / Oasis class ships extensively and can confirm they will be able to handle your dietary concerns. You - or your travel agent if you are using one - can reach out to the special needs department pre-cruise or go to the MDR maître d after boarding and they can arrange your meal planning then. JMO, but you mention there will be a number of adults sailing together. I would strongly recommend using a TA to assist as they can assure the best rates and benefits for your group while assisting with the planning and booking details - including the dietary concerns you mention. Would make your job a whole lot easier. If you choose RCCL, while they can also assist with group bookings directly, they can direct you to a TA if you don't have one.
