I just did the online health check in for my upcoming cruise and have a few questions for Canadian citizens - specifically ontarians that have sailed with HAL recently…

when you are at the pier do they accept the government issued Ontario vaccine QR code online form?
I noticed that it doesn’t say on that page the where and who administered the vaccines.  It has all the other pertinent info.  I have all my paper copies of reciepts from when I had my shots but my husband is missing one of his paper copies.  On these paper copies it states where and who administered the dose.

is the online government issued pdf with QR code acceptable or is there a chance we will be denied boarding due to this?

anyone else been thru this before and have any answers??  Just trying to figure out if we need to attempt to get this piece of paper reprinted from the pharmacy that gave my husband that dose.

    thanks for any help!

I cannot speak for Ontario, but the MB proof of vaccine is not good enough, we needed to show the Pan-Canadian PVC proof of vaccine on our Carnival cruise in March.

No one should get a medical procedure just to take a cruise. We need to stop letting other people decide what goes into our bodies because someone is holding a vacation/job/venue outing/etc. hostage. And at 17, it's a perfect time to teach her this.

You have already agreed to this arrangement, uncertain as it is. If you force the issue now, you're going back on your word, and your daughter will see this. When the drop-dead date rolls around and Carnival's mandate hasn't changed, and she isn't vaccinated, that's when the conversation should be had.

Agreed, No one should get a medical procedure just to take a cruise."

But this child is unvaccinated and could cause issues with the family who will be her chaperones.  As such, they have every right to 'go back on their word' IMO.  It is their vacation that she has been asked to join.  If the fact that she is unvaccinated by her choice or her parents is going to cause issues on the cruise, then personally I would tell her and her mother, that she is no longer welcome due to that fact.

Can we test 3 days out for an Alaskan cruise entering Canada with a PCR test if we are vaccinated/boosted?  I got the following email from Carnival re Canada and it is not very clear.  I am understanding the CCL letter to state that vaccinated/boosted guests can take a PCR test 3 days out. However, if we choose to take an antigen test instead, it has to be only 2 days out.  How do you read it? I googled and Canada government website says vaccinated guests don't require a test at all so that makes it even less clear. I asked this on the Canada forum, too.  I am trying to figure out when to schedule my test and testing 3 days out would be much more convenient due to school/work/travel.

"All guests, two years and older, are required to present the negative results of a pre-cruise COVID-19 test at check-in.

Vaccinated guests may present a PCR test taken between 72 and 24 hours prior to sailing.  As per Canadian requirements, vaccinated guests, including those who are up to date with their vaccines, may instead take an antigen test no earlier than two days prior to sailing.

Unvaccinated guests must present a PCR test taken between 72 and 24 hours before the sailing date and will also receive an antigen test at embarkation."

As a Canadian, we no longer have to test to re-enter Canada, and when we did need a negative test prior to April 1, only an Antigen test was required.  After April 1, no testing was required.  Perhaps non Canadians need to test??   For our upcoming Alaska cruise in July we will need an antigen test to board the plane  and to board the ship.  The same test can be used.

So, a couple months ago, my wife and I booked an October cruise for ourselves, our daughter and one of her friends. The friend will be 17 at the time of sailing.

The friend is not vaccinated. Her parents are pretty... against it. At least her mom is, who seems to make the decisions. At the time we were booking, we told the mom, "Right now, they are requiring pretty much everyone to be vaccinated. I guess there's a chance that might change before October, but right now - those are the rules." And she went ahead and gave her daughter permission and paid us for (most) of her daughter's fare.

As of right now, the friend is just listed as TBA on our booking. So, there's no name on it. We did that on purpose, just in case something happens (like the rule doesn't change and she doesn't get vaccinated) and we can't take her. That way we could at least maybe bring someone else on the cruise.

Fast forward to today. With cases going up, I really doubt the vaccine mandate will be dropped by October. If the girl is going to get her vaccine, she would need to get the first dose in August, I'm figuring. (The kid really wants to go and would get vaccinated to do so in a second, if her mom would allow it.) At what point would you tell the girl's mom, "Look, I really don't think they're going to lift the vaccine mandate. She's going to either have to get the vaccine, or she won't be able to go." Is sooner better? Would you say something like, "If the rules don't change by the first of August, you're going to have to make a decision?"

I have no idea what's the best way to go about this.

You are the ones taking responsibility for this child while on the cruise, so I would just tell them straight up what the rules are and what needs to happen for her to be able to come with you on the cruise.

Dumb question for all you who have already done it.  I ASSUME one can download and partially complete ArriveCAN long before the 72 hour window (name, Vax dates, who knows what else) and that the 72 hour window is for a last check health assessment thus then obtaining a QR code for entry.  Please confirm or straighten out any of my misunderstanding.  TY.

Yes.  I have the app on my phone and first used it back in March.  I used it again this weekend for a short trip across the border and back.  All the relevant info is still there, just had to add the new dates.

Every cruise line accepts the same tests. In the beginning there was so inconsistencies with vaccine requirements, but there has never been changes with testing requirements.

The tests are checked by port staff, who don't work for the cruise line, but for the specific ports.

Every port has multiple cruiselines and thus the staff that are checking your vaccines and test results are using the same rules as every other cruise line.

    That makes sense.

There are probably A LOT of people that travel without health insurance. Or travel insurance.

We are all on this website because we are smart and want to learn as much as possible before our next vacation, and are willing to put forth the time and effort to get all the correct information.

I'm on two Facebook groups for cruising (one for my cruise, one for Canadian Carnival cruisers). There are some 'interesting' questions that make me think that insurance is the furthest thing on their mind.

May I ask what the Canadian Carnival Cruisers Fb is?  I would like to join it.  Thanks!

Our Celebrity cruise is not until March 28 and final payment is not until Jan 27.  With the topsy-turvy and constantly changing airlines schedules we have not yet booked our flights.  And with the recent changes to both Canada and US border requirements we are not ready to make any decisions yet.  And who knows what might happen next.  BUT we really want to go on this cruise - we missed our 30th anniversary one in 2020.

I am with you.  We missed our 25th anniversary cruise in March 2020.  Rebooked it again for March 2021, again cancelled.  Now it is rebooked again for March 2022.  Our cruise is fully paid for and flights are booked.  Fingers crossed.

We are booked for Dec 26 Carnival Freedom Caribbean cruise. Our kids are nervous about going on the cruise now (16, 15 and 12 years old).  We are debating what to do, is anyone canceling? If canceling, are you getting refunds?

We are not scheduled to cruise until March 2022.  This is the 3rd booking for the same cruise.  As of now we are not cancelling and if the cruise line is still cruising we are going.  Flights are booked, cruise is paid for and damn it I want a holiday!!  😁

  10. With the announcement that the land border is opening in November, and possibly the US changing its thinking on AZ and mixed vaccines, my husband will wait before he goes to get a third shot.  It has been reported that the US might accept any WHO approved vaccines.  Hopefully this is the decision that is made 🤞

You have to request your Immunization RECORD from Shared Health in Manitoba - it has all your immunization records, etc.  The on-line or hard copy Immunization CARD just says you are vaccinated.

Thanks, just requested both mine and my husbands.  Fingers crossed the US will accept the AZ vacc with the new  announcement that the land border is opening.

That's strange - our Manitoba Immunization Record has three columns:

Column 1 - Vaccine - in our case Pfizer Bio-Tech COVID-19 mRNA Vaccine (other lines have other ones like Polio, Tetanus, etc)

    Column 2 - MB Code - COVID-19 - mRNA

Column 3 - Date of Immunization and Vaccine Lot Number - in our case 2021-04-21 (EX0448) and 2021-07-02 (EY0876)

Strange that yours doesn't have the Lot #.

Is this what you see online when you access your vaccination records?  Or is this a print out?

When looking to get a third dose as the wife and I are AZ/Moderna I thought I read that Manitoba is allowing 3rd doses for travel.  I know Alberta is as we have an appointment booked for a Moderna shot (we are flying there from Ontario, which is crazy but I am tired of all the waiting,  rules etc, I want to be double dosed with Moderna and be done).

As well you mentioned going to Hawaii, in reading about testing and and such as of now Hawaii has all its own rules around accepted tests to fly and quarantine.  Of course all this changes daily.

Yes, I believe Manitoba is offering third doses.  My husband is not thrilled about having to get another one, but will so he can travel if the US does not allow AZ vaccinated people into the US.  I am just hoping that they wisen up and allow those who have the AZ vacc to enter.

This has been asked a lot and Carnival continues to say no.

Search your airport you are flying out of and add pcr test.

It will cost a lot but is an option.

Carnival seems to be the cruise line with the least support for testing (no testing offered before you cruise, no testing for non u.s. citizens at the end of the cruise).

Carnival is the cheapest cruiseline and I am saving money on the cruise itself so don't mind paying $199 per person for my PCR test on the way home.

We are flying out of LAX and they do offer it.  We should have enough time as we disembark Saturday and fly out Sunday.

We were on the Celebrity Equinox on August 27 and are going on the Equinox again on October 27.  Yes, the testing is a hassle, but in my opinion it is worth it to be cruising again!  My current fear though is the rumors of shortages of rapid antigen tests coming.  With the requirement for a test 2 days before the cruise, in order to get one for both our flight and cruise it really needs to be on Wednesday - I have my fingers crossed this won't become an issue!  Celebrity gives you the PCR test to come home free on the ship, which is nice.

My post about our cruise and testing is below (at the time testing was 3 days before the cruise, but we will do the same thing, just go in to Shoppers Wednesday morning instead of Tuesday morning - FYI, I think the Shoppers option is only in Alberta and Ontario).  Let me know if you have any  questions.

The tests you had done at your local Shoppers, were they PCR tests?  What was the cost to you to get the tests and results?

I do know that PCR tests cannot be completed in Manitoba, only, Ontario, Alberta and BC.  Which is really messing up our Hawaii trip in December.  We are likely going to have to cancel that one. 😞

Yes flying out next Friday to Houston, for galveston on the Carnival Vista, 1 week,

long story short we had a B2B on RCL, for 2 weeks in Sept before they announced they would finally accept mixed mRNAS, so had to cancel, so booked this trip as Carnival was recognizing us a fully vaxed, etc then not 2 weeks after cancelling RCL accepts mixed mRNAS ...

its what you call S Show! lol

Then we have one booked end of Nov out of Fort Laud with RCL.

Well, my husband has the the fully mixed vaccine, astrazenica and then Moderna, so right now we are SOL. But if the US finally does recognize him as being fully vaccinated, then our next concern is being able to get the testing done in time.

  17. Have any of you cruised since cruises started up again?

We have a cruise booked for March 2022 out of Long Beach. Hoping third time is a charm.

I am just concerned about testing required to enter the US and/or board the ship.

Any insights or experiences you can provide would be much appreciated!

  18. Just curious if any Canadians have sailed since cruises have started back up again.  We are booked in March on the Panorama, but are worried there may be hurdles in the way.  Just hoping any fellow Canadians may have cruised and have some insight.  We don't want to have to cancel yet again!
