Our first port was Korcula, Croatia and we were blessed with stunning weather. It was sunny, no wind yet not to hot. Korcula is less overrun with tourists and is sometimes called “Little Dubrovnik”. It is easy to walk around and really not necessary to take a formal tour.

It is a tender port and the tendering process was smooth and fast. We had breakfast and headed ashore. IMG_3609.thumb.jpeg.e787ba950d5ea6ad1fb4c7635e52de08.jpeg

The water is extremely clear and clean and there were some people swimming ( made me want to dive in).

We decided to climb the Bell Tower, which costs 5 euros and is really worth it for the amazing views. It requires mobility as there are lots of very narrow stairsIMG_3461.thumb.jpeg.b4f3eddf0eac3df3845ae15c3cc58445.jpegIMG_3460.thumb.jpeg.970ebfbedfc34eb7cf886b8b5cc6d9f4.jpegAfter the Bell Tower, we took a look at St Mark’s church and Marco Polo’s birthplace. We strolled along the promenade and had an overpriced tourist lunch which we kind of regretted, lol. But the atmosphere by the water was really relaxing and worth the gouging.

The true charm of Korcula is had in wandering the narrow alleyways and peeking in the courtyards as well as strolling near the water. It really is special.IMG_3563.thumb.jpeg.3e2b4c5359fa67253e7e81941ca38655.jpegIMG_3557.thumb.jpeg.b1a2d0d14a7072106138b5ffd3bd525c.jpegLots of gelato available and beautiful coral jewelry.IMG_3598.thumb.jpeg.3448b121e4fcde45cb08cbe51898a63c.jpegThe Oosterdam in the distance.IMG_3576.thumb.jpeg.6bb5ce385912577404eb03272c6dc14e.jpegWe headed back to the ship for the sail-away, which went through the fjord like landscape. There was a special sunset ending a great day on the island. I woudl go back to Korcula for a land vacation.IMG_3690.thumb.jpeg.a583e80734b99ea7e4ee2560827a5bc6.jpegIMG_3702.thumb.jpeg.06ccf6ed1b4a912e7dcb69d28741d8b2.jpeg

Because HAL is concerned about emergency response and passengers’ needs for equipment or assistance in response to emergencies. Limiting the number of people who may need special assistance during emergency response to a number that the ship can actually provide services for is smart.

Because the line does not want to take on the task of relocating equipment and deal with accusations of breaking equipment or causing passengers to be late because of any time delay in retrieving equipment.

Because scooters left in passageways for any length of time create unnecessary obstacles that present safety  operational hazards. Left in passageways, they block access to handrails, obstruct others from passing down the corridor, including wheelchair and other scooter users, and interfere with ship operations.

Leaving scooters in elevator lobbies aboard ship also creates hazards, including blocking access to handrails.

Because the cruise line is looking out for the interests of all, not just individuals.

    Very well said.

Suez canal transit is in the itinerary for the World Cruise 2027, we've booked a segment from Singapore to Lisbon on the Volendam. However I expect this may not happen and we may be routed around Africa, so the 29-day segment may become a 41 or 42-day segment! I'm sure HAL will decide early next year and let us know, seeing that changes to the Oosterdam has come thru 12 months ahead of the cruise date.

    I think you mean 2026
