  1. I suspect that those who pick an ocean view stateroom for the ability to hear the ocean and watch the sea.... might find even slight music noise a bit annoying. On Oasis class Royal ships.... some like the noise and activity of the boardwalk areas, while others like the serenity and classical music that they hear in the Central Park area... while those that prefer the basic ocean experience... have the ocean view balconies. It will be interesting to see if the MC is disruptive or a novel experience that many cruisers will find interesting. But only time will tell. I might try it just to see the MC move and experience for myself.... but at this point I want to hear from others before paying a premium for the experience.... I will stick with the port side staterooms in the meantime.

  2. The model looks like the top of the lifeboats may be just at or slightly about the floor on deck 6, but the drawing looks a tad higher. We will just have to wait and see. My point is that if the obstruction is similar to say a 2D S class, then they should notify passengers of this. I only paid $2000 all in for my husband and I on a 12 day cruise on Silhouette... so I was willing to take the chance and it turned out that I liked the cabin despite looking into a lifeboat... but at least I did not have a davit to look past. But if you are paying about twice the price of a normal cruise, they should give you a heads up. My assumption was that since they define a 2D as obstructed that they would do so under similar conditions for the Edge. But I wanted to see the ship and knew that it would be a learning experience... so it is okay for me. I hope I am wrong and that it is better than 2D cabins. The photos are looking good.

  3. I was going through the 99 pages of posts on "Edge blocks in the house" and I came across a few posts that have me wondering a bit about obstructed cabins on deck 6. Now the official list of obstructed cabins the VTcruising posted show cabins next to areas that jut out. However what I learned is that 1) the lifeboats are double decker unlike the boats on S class.... (the only Celebrity ships I have experienced).. so if the ceiling in deck 5 is the same height as on S class... it suggests the life boats might be as much of and 'obstruction' if not more so than on S class (2D and 2C) cabins. Also if you look at Llyod's post #702 in the "Edge blocks in the house" thread you will see that the davits could be more of an obstruction than some may expect, given the lack of obstructed cabin designation by Celebrity. As I have noted in the past I have had a 2D before on S class and it really wasn't an issue... or course I also had a really really good deal on the cruise... so much more willing to overlook a lifeboat and I knew it was obstructed when booked. Anyway it will be interesting to see what is what. However, if the thought of looking at a davit or lifeboat.... (now probably just through the bottom... below the railing), is an issue for you... you might want to consider a higher deck or wait until passengers report back. I will take photos in December.

  4. Edge rooftop garden has some trees.

They're going to go thru a lot of shears trimming them! [emoji12]fc724c592be591abe0d4b8a58413c690.jpgfa7e9ce594d4df3493e258cfd1a36ff0.jpg

Those trees really do look like some ancient weapons.... as they say on “Forged in Fire” .. “ Those blades (in this case leaves) will keeel”...look great though

  5. Does anyone know if Deluxe OceanView #9111 is truly as large as noted on the plans? I am booked in this cabin February 2019. Can't wait no matter what.

Well the website says it has 238 sqft. I am guessing that this is an average for this class of cabin. Not sure if there is much variation in size among the same class of cabin. We won't know until passengers can assess... but that seems like a nice size. That is larger than the panorama ocean view on deck six... at 212 sqft and just a tad smaller than the infinity veranda along with the balcony... 202 sq ft for cabin and 42 for the veranda portion. Nice view out front from there.:)

  6. The image of the aft section of the ship shows a similar rail... looks less 'decorative' than in the other photo, probably due to the angle of the photo. Here it looks like where the construction crew is painting and or cleaning windows.... Here it blends in more than it looked in the earlier shot... so I assume this will be used to clean windows on an ongoing basis. Not sure I want that job! I put a link to photo... not sure it works... but look for recent photos of the aft and you will notice the track https://uniim1.shutterfly.com/ng/services/mediarender/THISLIFE/002062825799/media/123960441853/medium/1529582627/enhance

  7. Looks like tracks for the window washing unit.

    steamboats

I think you are on to something.... Unlike other ships with traditional balconies... the crew can not simply to out on the balcony and clean the windows and glass part of the railing... so they need a way to go on the outside to clean all this glass. I have seen rails on Royal ships to clean windows in the public areas... so perhaps that is what this is... however... I would expect the rails not to appear decorative but blend into the ship. So this could be just to protect construction crew and the window washing rails may be more subtle.... This speculating is fun.. I have never watched a ship being built. If you go on Pinterest there are a number of photos... fascinating to see the pieces come together. I wish they were organized by time... I assume someone will put together some kind of time lapse series of photos once it is all done

  8. I noticed those openings too and the one on deck 7.

It's quite possible they are open for construction purposes and will be closed up, sealed off and painted when they’re done. No other model or conceptual picture of the Edge has these openings.

Good point, I did see that... but just assumed it was perhaps for the crew... Maybe you are correct about these being temporary... or the drawings are not intended to be exact representations. I was curious about the large openings on deck 10 because I recall someone specifically asking if they would have a port view from their S1 Cabin like some other classes of ships... and I for one said no based on deck plan and the drawings... Now I realize I should have kept quiet...

  9. I’ve been watching those too - it doesn’t look like there is enough space for a cabin there on the deck plans - just a narrow white area next to the S1 - it would be great if it was part of the S1, but doubt it. It is weird. They have a round opening now in the same area of deck 7 which looks like it is in the same white, narrow area next to the S1. Maybe a storage area with windows? I don’t know, but enquiring minds want to know! :D

By the time this ship sales we will have studied every inch of publicly available info.... next step is to explore the ship to see how many of our guesses turn out to be correct. I do think it is an opening of some kind. If it were part of an S1 cabin... seems they would have given it a unique class S1A or something. Perhaps it is just a public veranda at the end or the hall.

  10. Bed by the balcony might be nice if you like to keep open to ocean breezes at night... will have to wait and see.

I have a question for Lloyd. On facebook Edge group page someone has posted a recent photo of the ship that has me wondering. It show the aft portion of the ship with the series of round openings to 1A veranda cabins... but if you look up to deck 10 there appear to be two rectangular windows... which do not show up in any renderings of the ship. However, when I look at recent photos of the port side, I see those same two rectangular 'spots' for lack of a better term. Any idea what that is... are there side windows/veranda openings for two aft cabins on deck 10? I have tried blowing up the image, but it is too blurry to make out what it is (see your post #1919 and #1928 for the images). Actually your 1928 image appears to be a bit clearer... have they added a balcony on the side for this deck only? Just curious

  11. I'm on the June 30th sailing as well, and as far as I know we're still on the original (unmodified) Western itinerary that Visits Grand Cayman before Cozumel and Costa Maya. Did Celebrity contact you telling you otherwise? If so I need to replan our own shore activities... [emoji51]

No, I just noticed this itinerary was different, wondering if ours would be too

  12. I did a little detective work and I think you might have missed the davit and maybe are over the little boat (rescue boat or whatever it is called). I looked at this picture and saw that on deck 3 there is a gap in the cabins and there is some yet to be determined area with 4 large windows. When I overlayed deck 6 over deck 3 on a cruise deck plan site, your cabin fell over that gray area. As you can see, there is no davit or tender over those 4 big windows. You may be over the little boat, but looks like you missed major obstructions (but don't hold me to it). ;)

Yes VTcruising... I did not look at that lower deck.. that does help. I really don't mind a slightly obstructed view... but if I can move the cabin over by one and reduce it.. well that is idea. Anyway... I did the same thing... looking at deck 6 vs 5... Dont mind the rescue boat... gives me something to look at more closely... had a D2 on a Silhouette and kinda liked being able to look inside the lifeboat to see how it was configured... did not really impact overall view... although if you get the davit... that is a bit more disruptive... thanks for the other shot of the portside...

  13. I wonder if you have access to photos of the port side of the ship. I just moved my E3 cabin from 6211 to 6209. I am hoping to be in front of the lifeboat davit. Not sure I accomplished this... but I guessed based on the deck plan and a very few drawings of the port side. Not a big deal if the cabin ends up by the davit or the other, what I call, a "rescue boat" (not sure the proper term)... I am more curious than anything. Thanks

  14. Bermuda, just love your ongoing review. We sail this same itinerary on June 30... so it is particularly helpful. I assume that the timing of our stops will likely be the same as yours... which is a bit different than what was published. I especially like the unique info you provided like the shot of the vending machine. Our first Celebrity cruise was Equinox last Sept.... then we did Silhouette in November and Eclipse in April. We usually do Royal but decided to try Celebrity and have not been disappointed... while there is much to like about Royal's Oasis class ships.... Celebrity is just so relaxing and not as frenetic as Oasis class. I always feel obligated to make show reservations... and then figure out when I can eat... then print out my calendar. On Celebrity there is not as much to do... but.... we decide if we want to see a show... as we finish dinner... not pre planning required. Now I will say that I do like the entertainment a bit more on Royal... but think the food is better on Celebrity. Nothing wrong with the food on Royal...but I think there is something lost when making meals for 5000 passengers.. It may just be my impression. Anyway... we will be trying Edge later in the year....

  15. When comparing a thin key card to carrying around a smart phone to open one's door leads me to conclude that travelling light is best....The card can go on a neck lanyard ( no handbag or carry case needed); and if lost it is easily replaced.

One nice benefit of cruising is we get to unplug and enjoy!

But those who like the tech stuff will have that option as well.

The whole reason we started cruising was to really get away. In the olden days I could honestly tell my office they could not reach me for a week. I only get on internet once or twice to check email

  16. celebrity has stated they will still be supplying sea passes, but as technology progresses, it only makes sense for the ships to move in that fashion as well. they're very much aware that a large portion of their guests won't participate in these advances so they will be sure to offer the "old school" options for them as well.

Let's just hope they don't add Alexa anytime soon. All I need is the stress of wondering if the thing is listening. :D

  17. Very tight... one window pane, no balcony.Maybe crew quarters??? Early cabins on Royal C were 179 sq ft..really cramped!

The touch screen was interesting...will need to bring sanitizing wipes!

I am wondering if you are correct. I have never seen a crew cabin and have no idea if they decorate it in a similar manner to passenger cabins... but it did seem small to me. But in looking at photos of the hull... the shape of the window looks like what you see in this level cabin. But it appears smaller than 200 sqft. Does anyone know what crew cabins usually look like... do people get their own cabin? I have no clue

  18. Just to highlight how our minds work (probably just mine!), when I read your post and got to #3, it definitely caught my attention when I first read it as: 3. When dining in the Raw........ I stopped up short right there, but fortunately kept reading and realized what you were actually asking!

But to answer #3 the way I first read it, I’d suggest you only ‘dine in the raw’ on your balcony and hope your neighbors aren’t the curous types!

enjoy. Unfortunately except for ‘helping’ you with #3, I can only answer #2, yes, you can ask for a table for 2. If you’ve used a TA, ask them to submit the request, and when you get into your SR, your table number will be there. You can then go check early on, and if it’s not a 2, ask the team set up at the MDR to move you to one. We’ve moved to a 4-table with friends and have done a 2-table and had no problems doing so.

    Den

With the new infinite veranda cabins on Edge... you can actually dine in your cabin in the "raw", so to speak and not have to worry about your neighbors.... :D

  19. I am wondering about something. The cabins appear to be run by smart phone apps. Everything from getting into your cabin to adjusting lights appear to be managed on your phone. So, if you don't sign up for wifi... does that mean you can't use the app? Suppose you are old school and don't use a smart phone... is there a back up old school system like sea-pass to get into the cabin? Now I appreciate technology as much as the next person, but I have no problem getting up and going over to the thermostat or light switch. I don't exercise much as it is... getting off my behind periodically is part of my daily routine.

  20. Too bad the camera work is not very good. My guess would be an ocean view cabin from deck 3 O7 or O8. I have not found photos of these cabins... only the large floor to ceiling ocean view cabins. Thanks for the post... windows are small... but on deck 3... likely to get some punishing waves than an ocean view higher up... this is why I assume it is on deck 3

  21. I believe that this particular shipyard will meet or beat their schedule. They always do. The ship and its systems will be checked and re-checked multiple times and then again during and after sea trials. No need for me to bring my tools! But we do need to bring our patience and understanding on the first several cruises. The staff on board will be unfamiliar and learning new things, and just establishing their teams and approaches. That is where some passengers will no doubt start their complaints elsewhere on these boards. Bet on it!

Alas you are correct. I am always surprised at how many people seem to look for issues to complain about. We are on the Dec 16 cruise. I am sure that the ship will be functioning as it should and any problems with be staff related... getting to know the lay of the land, so to speak. My husband and I never met a cruise we didn't like. So I know that we expect things to happen and just hope that what ever it is, is minor. I have traveled enough to know to expect the unexpected. Ironically the trips I remember the best are the ones where there was an issue. Like the time I broke my ankle on a business trip to Amsterdam. Not fun at the time... but made a better story than if nothing had happened and the meeting went off without an issue :)

  22. gosh whenever I look at these progress photos it seems like they still have SO much to do until the first sailing. only about 5 months to go!

Bring your tool belt, we may be tightening up a few bolts and things on the early cruises... sort of a habitat for humanity cruise... All kidding aside... it is amazing how much still needs to be done... but fortunately they have made a few ships before. I do wonder if they are on track based on their schedule. It is the first, so still some learning curve on this ship's unique features. Love seeing the photos of the progress... helps make the months pass.
